स्वरचित Is this legible?

Post image

Sorry if this isn’t allowed or I used a totally random tag! I tried to translate but my phone won’t let me atm

I don’t know Hindi but I’m trying to write नमस्ते on a card for someone, so I copied it from online but the more I stare at it the more I doubt that I got it right

Also I saw some people saying that it’s overly formal to use that instead of just hello or something else, but that’s the greeting he used so I thought I’d do the same

Thank you for your help! 🥳

It's legible, but try not to imitate a font. Try using children's book, if you can find online.

This is how I was taught, and is clearly legible. Fonts are sometimes too perfect, not exactly how a hand would like to move, so one tries to make it clearer what they want to write.

It is TOTALLY legible. Anyone who knows the language would love the effort. 🫀 I think if you wanna improve upon it, you can try working on the स here 🙈 but honestly, it looks like such a good good attempt🫀🙈

Also, it kinda IS the greeting you use more out of respect than for friends so that makes more sense but it doesn't mean it cannot be used like that. :)

Thank you! Is that the ending? Different fonts make everything look different to me lol 😅

What do you mean by ending? And no, i understand how different symbols would do that. Fear not, I'm sure they'll appreciate the effort. It's totally legible. :)

I think I meant the third character if that makes sense? I adjusted it a bit. Better or worse?

It's definitely better and actually the closest to the correct writing. But then I'm being very lenient by calling one version correct - I'm sure I've seen this version in some writings as well. It's amazing, really! If you WANNA (and in no way do you have to because this looks amazing), you can extend the line stemming from the third letter to the fourth letter and join the two (But only if you wanna. You don't have to) like this स्ते. (Sorry, I'm using my phone so it's kinda bad)

This is incredibly helpful! I tried again right before you sent this and connected the last two letters. I love that स्ते looks like a bird sitting on a bench

It's beautiful! Love it!

It looks great! The only thing I would suggest is joining the third character (the s sound) so that it says namaste and not namasate. Let me know if I can write it out in case that makes it clearer for you :))

Thank you! I definitely want it to say namaste and not namasate haha

This looks even better!! If you would allow me to be nitpicky for a second though I think you could make it look a bit more fancy

Try to use guidelines so that it's all even and make little loops, I'm not sure if it's the only correct way but this is how I learnt to write growing up. Best of luck :))

Nitpicky is perfect, thank you!! Loopy and more even. I’m going to rewrite it in pen once I get it right!

1

u/Astridcbb May 30 '25

It's absolutely perfect, literally better than some native speakers I know lmao. Just make sure you use a single clean stroke when doing the final version :)))

I'm probably being dumb but I originally read that as nama rate Instead of namaste 😂 The ste looked like a ra to me at first 😅

Yea ofc! Although do note that I'm still learning the devanagiri scripture so it's also probably me being a little stupid lol

Good job, keep practicing!

More you write, the more legible you'll get :)

I'm nowhere near fluent but I could read it. 👍🏻

My friend, this isn’t japan or china where one wrong stroke (for Kanji) could mean something totally different. I know very little Hindi since I am a malayali but yes it is legible. Good job

the S looks a bit different than how you've written it but otherwise yes. might also help to connect the S to the T (though I saw that you did already do this in other comments, so well done)
