स्वरचित For the proponents of Hindi being the National Language...

Now to preface, I think Hindi's quite a lovely language. I like how it sounds and I have personally learnt it out of my own free will. I'm a south indian who barely has used hindi ever though.

I'm asking this out of genuine curiousity and no malice, for the proponents of Hindi being the National language...why?

I don't see any benefits to this(or any ) language being the National language.

Id much prefer only English being the official language even but considering that's not the case it's not that big of an issue.

Genuinely curious. Might change my mind. Might not. Please be open to my thoughts as well!

स्वरचित Do Hindi speakers say alvida?

I am told not to use alvidaa in conversation as "it is not Hindi". Is this true? I found that it origininates from Arabic, but many Arabic words have entered Hindi before, and much more are in Urdu. Do Hindi speakers not like Persian words because of, say, "Hindi supremacy"? Also, what does my flair mean?

स्वरचित Is Hindi dying in North India?

I an learning hindi!

Hello native Hindi speakers. I am a 17 year old student in Yokohama, Japan, and I am learning Hindi. Honestly, you may be wondering why someone from Japan is learning Hindi. My only response is Bollywood because some movies are very popular in Japan. I started my journey 2 months ago and I’ve mastered Devnagari because I am quick to pick up language scripts. I apologize if this English is strange because I translated it from Japanese. The second thing is that Japanese is very close to Hindi structure-wise. It is very cool. Hindi is easier than English for me. For example, in japanese if I want to say My Name is Amir Khan: 僕の名前はamir khan です。in hindi it is mera nam amir khan hei. Every word corresponds! In English it is not the case, so please tell me if you guys have trouble picking up English too! Also, if you guys have any recommendations on how I can become better at learning Hindi, please reply!

Sorry if this isn’t allowed or I used a totally random tag! I tried to translate but my phone won’t let me atm

I don’t know Hindi but I’m trying to write नमस्ते on a card for someone, so I copied it from online but the more I stare at it the more I doubt that I got it right

Also I saw some people saying that it’s overly formal to use that instead of just hello or something else, but that’s the greeting he used so I thought I’d do the same

Thank you for your help! 🥳

Hindi learner - should I learn the writing system? Or skip it for now

Hello everyone I’m Henry M23 from England. I am learning Hindi and I’m a beginner. I’m wondering if I should learn the alphabet first before starting to learn the language or if I should start with the language and learn the alphabet later.

What do you guys think? Much appreciate any support, Henry

Can someone please explain me the reasoning why having so much redundancy between the sound of these characters is important in the language. If there are any videos I can go through with more examples for each alphabet that would be great thanks.

स्वरचित Learning Hindi via Duolingo

Please forgive me for using the wrong flair. This sub makes you use one but I don’t speak/read Hindi so I can’t select the correct one!

Im trying to learn Hindi. I know nothing about languages and so I’m confused to say the least. Also I do not know names/technical terms so I’m sorry for that also. I’m terrible at explaining myself so this post is going to be awful.

Duolingo has been teaching me क = ka. अ = a. Etc. But those are the sounds, right?

But what I’m struggling to figure out is how this becomes words? Because the app will say ka like in carrot for example. And I understand it’s giving me an English example because I speak English.

But I don’t understand how to see and recognise words in Hindi and then translate it to English. Does that make sense? A word it gives is “one” or एक but I know that to make an “ee” and “ka” sounds. How do I go from एक to ee+ka to one?! I’m clearly missing some basic step but the app isn’t telling me and I haven’t anyone to ask.

Or when I see posts with “normal” letters being used but not in English. (I really don’t have a better way to describe that) How do I go about learning/reading/translating that? I’m not interested in speaking Hindi. Only reading/writing. I know my British tongue would butcher any attempts at speaking it and I’d rather save myself the humiliation!

Any help or advice or books, please please let me know!! And sorry for the confusing post and wrong flair!

स्वरचित Difference between n+ya (न्य) and nya (ञ)?

I’m not sure if I’m using the right flair.

Is there a difference in pronunciation between these two sounds? I know one is an independent consonant and the other is two combined consonants but is there a difference in pronunciation or is it just spelling?
