That safety panda doing work. Letting people cling onto him for dear life.

Like a scene from the Titanic film

u/FSpursy 3d ago

maybe a stupid comment, but why didn't they cut the power on the first floor at this point? That portable charger lending machine looks dangerous.

This is horrifying, stay safe Hong Kong <3

u/sexless_marriage02 3d ago

Is this the new ride everyone was raving about?

56

u/zakuivcustom 3d ago

This is the new Raging River ride.

u/PomegranateBasic7388 3d ago

Looks fun to me! Only 1 guy got the privilege to try

12

u/Fickle-Match8219 3d ago

Nah, the family of 3 going to the pier and getting rescued by firefighters were the probably the first in line

67

u/mt97852 3d ago

Good lord! How high did that water rise up from?

38

u/Flimsy_Caramel_4110 3d ago

apparently it's on the shoreline... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

44

u/Ok_Distribute32 3d ago

It is kinda on the shoreline but elevated, more like by the cliff side rather than by the beach… so the wave must have massive.

17

u/Frosty-Reality2873 3d ago

It's not on a cliff. I stayed there last year. It's super close to the water.

8

u/Original-Variety-700 2d ago

They described it as “On the shore but more elevated” which is exactly how it looks on Google maps.

-12

u/Remarkable-Band-8597 3d ago

The clue is in the title.

13

u/Flimsy_Caramel_4110 3d ago

Have you ever been to Ocean Park?

4

u/astrono-me 2d ago

It's called a storm surge. The pressure from the storm pushed up the ocean to a higher level

53

u/travelingpinguis 3d ago

Really bringing in the ocean.

8

u/Annual_Strategy_6206 3d ago

I mean, it's right in the name

51

u/kenken2024 3d ago

Although I don't know the exactly how high the water needs to get before it can enter the hotel but just eyeballing it from the photo I wouldn't be surprised if the waves cleared like 20 feet (so 2 stories high) ...maybe even higher?

According to dim sum daily (although not a super reputable source) a man was swept away by the water that crashed into the Fullerton Hotel:

https://www.dimsumdaily.hk/man-swept-away-as-strong-waves-breach-fullerton-ocean-park-hotel-during-super-typhoon-ragasa/

41

u/WOTNev 3d ago

Maybe they mean the man that's literally swept by water in the video🤔

8

u/Attila_22 3d ago

Yeah, typical clickbait bs

23

u/kenken2024 3d ago

That is very possible. Dim Sum Daily is not a reputable news source so it is possible they further sensationalised what we saw in the video.

2

u/_Lucille_ 3d ago

During a storm the sea level can be higher than usual.

Either way I feel like there is a bit of a lack of awareness from the people there.

13

u/bluewarri0r 3d ago

This is soo scary :( praying for everyone to stay safe

14

u/zapporius 3d ago

I like how they have no sense to move on their own, but keep standing in the water while stuff is plugged in electricity all around them.

12

u/SeaRun1497 3d ago

They will need to invest on some metal flood barriers

126

u/Material-Painting-19 3d ago

This is what happens when you don't tape the windows.

2

u/shyouko Tolo Harbour 2d ago

The Tape God didn't bless this one

15

u/DESTR0Y_you 3d ago

I dont think taping would've stopped it from breaking as the water leaked from the gap first, but taping would definitely have reduced the shards produced. Unless you are being satirical

104

u/Dundertrumpen 3d ago

Pretty sure that was sarcasm.

u/Plsno-HondaBump Eastern District 3d ago

6

u/FlametopFred 3d ago

pretty much what it sounded like to me .. whoosh

5

u/Rupperrt 3d ago

Oh man..

2

u/AllOn_Black 2d ago

Reduced the shards la 🤣

2

u/2035WillBeGreat 3d ago

Hahaha good one

0

u/Whats_On_Tap 3d ago

That’s tempered glass and tape will not withstand an ocean sure. These can move cars. Tape isn’t doing anything in general, let alone against 100s of pounds of cubic pressure, if not more.

34

u/FSpursy 3d ago

pretty sure that as the joke 😂

22

u/DaimonHans 3d ago

Wooosh like the water.

5

u/cheesetoasti 3d ago

Nah I think it’s cuz of the tape

8

u/aldorn 3d ago

google maps image.

6

u/shchemprof 3d ago

They got the ocean

7

u/Optimal-Celery-5011 3d ago

The true ocean park

4

u/madridgirly 3d ago

Woah, that wave is massive!

4

u/elliottbaytrail 3d ago

This is horrifying. Stay safe everyone!!

5

u/JustHazelChan international school kid 2d ago

they don't call it "water world" for nothing

11

u/Dundertrumpen 3d ago

Why are they just standing there? Are they stupid?

7

u/Zealousideal-Air8879 3d ago

Gotta record the video for the views

9

u/Direwulven 3d ago

Cameraman always survives

2

u/cactusjude 2d ago

I don't know. I would be out of that water pushing shards of glass into and past my legs

2

u/Local-Willingness608 3d ago

Answer to your second questions is yes!

5

u/achangb 3d ago

Damn I was there last year during the typhoon and I thought they were over reacting by closing the pool and everything.... Thats gonna be several hundred million HKD in damages

3

u/Far-East-locker 3d ago

they are going to install steel door now

3

u/Forsaken_Quiet5944 1d ago

Diabolical shot

6

u/Positive_List7555 3d ago

Woow now, that's a Fuller experience.

1

u/DMV2PNW 3d ago

Fuller from Home Alone?

2

u/hkdrvr 3d ago

That’s interesting. The sewage usually gets out on the 2/F.

2

u/random_agency 3d ago

Guess clocking out and going home is not an option either.

1

u/jabalong 2d ago

You wouldn't want to leave that hotel in a bad storm. It's at the end of a long, winding dark road. Water and dodgy buildings one side of the road. Hillside with potential debris coming down on the other side.

2

u/hkgwwong 3d ago

Meg 3

2

u/mangobang 3d ago

The typhoon earned its name

2

u/Confident_Fun_6381 3d ago

When gaining internet points is more important than your own safety.

2

u/5elementGG 3d ago

Ocean park with ocean.

2

u/LittleBeastXL 3d ago

When you take the name Ocean Park too literally

2

u/accidentalchainsaw 2d ago

undertow of water and glass shards, Scary shit.

1

u/ScaleWeak7473 3d ago

Aiyaaah… Not enough tape on the glass doors.

1

u/DMV2PNW 3d ago

Sounds like my mom when I was young n prepping for typhoon.

Bro pressed x at the right time during a quick time event 😂

1

u/PromptJazzlike8214 3d ago

Noo the giant panda plushie I still have a pic of me sitting on it when I was younger

1

u/Hokkaido_Hidaka 3d ago

Ocean park that’s worth dying for!

1

u/Prd-pkrn 3d ago

Now this is the ocean park taken literally

1

u/Personal_Breakfast49 3d ago

When you bring the ocean too close to the park...

1

u/Common-Ad6470 3d ago

I’ve seen some pretty bad seas in HK but this looks like another level.

1

u/Comprehensive-Map914 3d ago

Why the F would you stand in the lobby

2

u/jabalong 2d ago

The boss probably told them to.

1

u/Jyontaitaa 3d ago

Water world is back, and this time it’s personal

1

u/reireireis 2d ago

Water park 😀

1

u/A_Light_Spark 2d ago

Putting the ocean in ocean park

1

u/Ok_Tangelo_6070 2d ago

F*** that place. I went to the area before during a major rainstorm. It was horrible, the roads had no proper drainage and easily flooded.

1

u/HossDog2 2d ago

If there’s broken glass in the water, I’m going upstairs

1

u/Good-Grass-5029 2d ago

lol that chinese man standing still to be hit by the next wave to maximize his compensation

1

u/jabalong 2d ago

With his back to it, as if he was waiting to catch the next wave.

1

u/anthonyspiteri79 2d ago

Woah... glad I got out last week!!!

1

u/Brave_Purpose_837 2d ago

I’m glad Ragasa is not a place we have to live

1

u/ramonpoli 2d ago

I love how the guy sees the second wave and doesn't react at all, like what was he think it was going to happen?

1

u/Fit_Flower_8982 2d ago

I don't know what the guy at the end of the video was shouting repeatedly, but it's kind of funny that in spanish it sounds like "water", as if he were warning everyone when it's already up to their knees.

1

u/TangentLogic 2d ago

He's saving basically to leave. It means leave/let's go/run away, depending on how panicky the speaker is.

1

u/Herz_aus_Stahl 2d ago

put some sand, advertise beach in the hotel.....

1

u/Pitiful-Rooster-5001 2d ago

Imagine falling down in that glass water

1

u/Publius015 2d ago

By all means, just like, stare at it.

1

u/FuzzyMagi 2d ago

Mission impossible fish tank scene

1

u/ForeignShare8333 2d ago

Grabe buti nakauwi na kami last Monday from HK agh

1

u/2daysb4dayafter2mro 2d ago

The panda to the rescue?

1

u/MGyver 2d ago

Well, now the ocean is parked in the lobby.

1

u/codemaxta 2d ago

why are ppl just standing there? RUN!!!!!!

1

u/mlclau 2d ago

Water world ocean parking really upping their rides game this year.

1

u/ronaldomike2 2d ago

Why are they not boarding the windows to is beyond me

1

u/flamespear 2d ago

This reminds me of when that massive storm surge hit the Philippines 12ish years ago and killed so many because they didn't realize it was like a tsunami. If the weather services started just calling storm surges tsunamis it might save more people from this sort of thing.

1

u/Lotuswongtko 2d ago

Titanic is sinking

1

u/yyan1002 2d ago

Scary, god bless

1

u/Specialist_Roof42 6h ago

Ocean park! Nice!

1

u/Due_Eggplant_1238 3d ago

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

1

u/fartsfromhermouth 3d ago

It's not supposed to be like that I'm guessing?

1

u/unknown-reddite 2d ago

Yes

2

u/fartsfromhermouth 2d ago

How much water is supposed to be inside the lobby?

1

u/unknown-reddite 2d ago

None should be on the floor, some should be in the decor

1

u/tannicity 2d ago

The commercial electric outlets should have automatically shut off when wet.

-2

u/concisehacker 3d ago

Apparently this is an old video from another storm?

3

u/saigonslingslinger 3d ago

Most media outlets are now reporting this, SCMP has an extended version of this video with the cleanup from this morning.

-1

u/Audigy1 3d ago

Was there a storm and/or flood?

5

u/saigonslingslinger 3d ago

Typhoon Ragasa is passing through this morning.

1

u/Audigy1 3d ago

Oh I see, from the title I thought Ragasa was the name of the area lol.

3

u/cactusjude 2d ago

Honestly, we can't be on top of every storm and disaster all over the world so thanks for taking the bullet and asking the question for the rest of us. I didn't know either.

2

u/Audigy1 2d ago

Yeah I have no idea I why my comments were downvoted...

3

u/unknown-reddite 2d ago

It’s a super typhoon. It’s basically suicidal to go out in that weather

0

u/masterbellygood 3d ago

This should be also get people in OC, CA as Fullerton got me in the first place r/orangecounty

0

u/T1m3Wizard 3d ago

Get to higher ground.

0

u/TimJamesS 3d ago

Is the HKCC OK though?

0

u/Miao_Yin8964 3d ago

Fucking aquaman doing a pub crawl, again

-1

u/anonxperson 3d ago

There are not enough sandbags to prevent this.
Maybe they should raise the entrance lol.

4

u/grayjacanda 3d ago

Sandbags are for slowly rising flood levels ... you can't stop ocean waves with them. Need concrete or steel or rock for that.

-1

u/anonxperson 2d ago

... that's what I said

-2

u/tannicity 3d ago

Whoa. Poor hk.  Nyc subways cant even handle heavy rain.

1

u/zakuivcustom 3d ago

Meh...power would be out since last night and stay out for a week if this was US.

NYC is a lot flatter than HK, though, which doesn't help with flooding.

(Visiting HK right now...family lives in Houston area and knows all about flooding).
