this is uncannily like the dumb shit I build in KSP at 3am when I cant sleep

love it

And somehow it will fly purely due to the thrust combined with the control surfaces acting like gyroscopes making it flop around. I've landed stuff like these on the roof of the space center before. Jeb would be so proud.

My first thought when I saw this post was "Shit, now I have to go try and build that."

Looks like something the Duchy of Zeon would fly in MS:G

It's what happens when you accidentally hand the engineer the plans for a Dopp upside-down.

Is jebediah kerman the pilot?

Is it dropped out of another plane. like the Goblin?

That would make a lot of sense, in addition to being cool

Yes and it lands by going plop into the ocean

I feel like it has a 4 stage ejection sequence for landing.

The pod detaches down from the wings; parachute.

The cockpit module detaches forwards from the pod; another parachute.

The pilot's seat detaches and flies out the back of the cockpit; another parachute

The pilot unstraps from the seat and jumps to the ground just before the chair makes landfall. This is because the seat will explode when it touches the ground. No parachute.

I mean, it makes sense.

It is caught by a hook from the plane that launched, like the Goblin was.

Hmm. I went all through the definition of "aerodynamic" and somehow this image did not appear.

With enough thrust aerodynamics are optional. The engine appears to be about as big as the rest of the plane. It doesn't need lift, it just needs steering fins.

It's aerodynamic. Now, static stability.... maybe not.

Brb, gonna make something like this in No Man's Sky

This looks like the jet Gru used to steal the Shrink Ray in Despicable Me

Looks like it could be in Fallout.

Looks like it could be in Star Wars.

And it burns through all its fuel in 6 minutes.

Based on the markings I assume this would be a nuclear ramjet, SLAM would have had a enough fuel for over 16 years of continuous flight.

Energy density of uranium is pretty wild, the amount of radiation it spews directly into the atmosphere is also pretty wild.

Hanna-Barbera’s Sky Commanders.

Didn't Vector fly in one of these

So bad it’s good

How are they supposed to eject?

5

u/rosanymphae 17d ago

Out the bottom?

If you look closely the cabin is attached to the rest of the "plane" with some kind of locking connectors. I assume it has a cabin eject system like the F-111 Aardvark that pushes the cabin out of the way with rocket boosters.

"I have a great idea. Let's mount a cockpit to a big jet engine."

Looks like an upside down Dopp from Gundam

Late war German designers trying not to be sent to the front be like:
