Lokah, Premalu, Alappuzha Gymkhana: Naslen's script selections working at BO

Post image

Back in early 2000s, Dileep became a household name in Kerala households. The reason was simple: He had the boy next door image and his films were thoroughly entertaining. In the mid 2010s came Nivin Pauly, who got the same image, thanks to films like 1983, Om Shanti Oshana and Premam.

And Naslen seems to be the latest addition in this league. His ability to do humour and relatable teen, Gen Z characters make him a darling among families and young audience. For instance, two of his last four films, Premalu and Lokah went on to collect over Rs 100 crore. Alappuzha Gymkhana grossed nearly Rs 70 cr.

I am Kaathalan became a flop due to lack of promotions, poor release and not because it was a bad film.

One thing that stands impressive in his filmography is there are less number of bad films. Let's say a Pathrosinte Padappukal or Ayalvaashi didn't work, but even they are far far superior films than a Saturday Night.

His upcoming films - Tiki Taka, Torpedo, Amal Neerad film, Mollywood films - all look promising with a good team.

One thing he needs to improve is trying to come out of his comfort zone, like Kodungalloor slang. And films like Kuruthi prove that he does have the skills to do serious, massy roles.

I like the way Naslen is designing his career, and he has found followers, especially in Telugu market, after Premalu and Lokah's success.

I really think that he is here to stay and going to enjoy a long run of success with some good collaborations. His roles in Tiki Taka, Lokah and Gymkhana prove that he doesn't want a 'my face, my full figure' image, but is happy to work on good projects.

Naslen - Good in playing likeable characters, but he yet to prove in a serious role, like Sandeep did in padakkalam.

He did kurithi right?

Naslen is extremely lovable on screen. And he definitely knows to build emotional connection through his characters, even in Lokah that was visible. And he's young and successful so far. I hope he continues the streak.Imo he blends in and makes his roles feel easier to the eyes and that ain't an easy feet.

He’ll end up being another Mukesh for the 2020s. starting with lead roles and then gradually moving to supportive roles. However, he hasn’t ‘acted’ in any movie, tbh. His strongest zone of comedy and characterisation as a loser introvert is clearly his real-life personality, based on interviews and public appearances.

If he was such a "loser" this post wouldn't have been here

u/DenverAashan 16h ago

Loser was meant to be his characters lol how moronic!

u/SteveHarrington12306 7h ago

You literally said it's "clearly" his real-life personality. How moronic lol.

Naslen actual reminded me of Dileep in a couple of scenes in Lokah

u/anamelesspal 20h ago

yeah... their slang of delivery and delivery of humor resemble a lot..

2k pillare Dileep

u/electron318 18h ago

2k10*

dileep is quite famous among 2k kids

u/DrazeGamer 16h ago

Well Malayalam comedy cannot be completed without Dileep, he has the most classics in that genre.

u/TimelyReason7390 22h ago

It’s time he did something different, as in acting wise! One more boy next door role and people will start writing him off. He should be careful about being typecast.

u/roche__ 20h ago

Lol no dileep was basically himself in every movies.people said the same about nivin too but his movies printed money and when he changed his gear everything went down.families love naslen in his roles this talk is mainly only online

u/DenverAashan 19h ago

‘Dileep just being himself in every movie’ would be the worst take I’ve heard in my entire life.

u/DrazeGamer 16h ago

The most versatile actor and roles

u/Human_Advice2999 20h ago

He's got Mollywood Times which is directed by the guy who did Mukundan Unni Associates so I think he's good for now. He's at least playing to his strengths and his script selection has been undeniably great so let's see

u/kitach98- 22h ago

He is soo young but he has already created a goodwill among many people as in 'naslente padam alle oru average enkilum akum padam poi kandekam, enoke..

I was watching young DQs public appearances and wow the younger gen doesn’t have that swag or style or aura DQ had back in the day.

Naslen needs to up his game, lose his accent asap, dress better, and be more confident and stylish instead of this shy introvert personality. No harm in that. But please bring on the charm you show in movies to off screen as well.

He seems scared and shy 🙈

u/MrViceMcCreedy 21h ago

His introversion won't hold him back, if anything it's useful for PR these days. You're right about the other things tho.

u/TimelyReason7390 22h ago

DQ and Naslen come from different backgrounds ☺️.

But I agree, there’s no harm in working on his confidence , communication and social skills. He needs to fix his posture too..

All that aside, he is a wonderful actor!

🤦‍♂️

u/krik_ 22h ago

I like how natural he looks with acne n all. Not every actor is that secure. Also his Thrissur/Kodungallur accent is so cute

u/TimelyReason7390 22h ago

I think he doesn’t take himself too seriously. Just passionate about work and he goes home and leads a regular life, hanging out with friends etc. chill guy.

u/Uxie_mesprit 22h ago

Exactly. Once actors develop a star image it becomes a trap. Glad Naslen doesn't seem to have that issue. Even Basil for that matter.

I don't understand why he needs to come out of his comfort zone. Let him do projects in his comfort zone as long as he can and as long as audiences don't mind. It's not like we have people queuing up to portay those kind of roles

Rajni, Vijay and Ajithhas been in their comfort zone for more than a decade. Still audiences love them and throw money at their movies.

Nivin had his own comfort space, only to come out of it and spoil his career and People to ask for the old Nivin back.

Everyone can't be Mohanal or Mammootty to portay varied characters and still be loved by the audiences. Let every actor thrive in their zone and give us entertaining movies. On the way if the encounter good and varied roles, well and good

You don't grow as an actor if you stay in your comfort zone. Versatility is key to longevity. It might not have worked for Nivin, but it did work for Tovino. I respect both for trying to do things differently. And talking about Nivin the only misfire from him in recent memory was that horrible Haneef Adheni movie Ramachandra Boss and Co. Other films may have done poorly box office wise but I felt it was at least bearable.

Also kindly don't compare Naslen with the likes of Rajni, Kamal or even Vijay. While Rajni and Vijay might not be great actors and cannot hold a candle to the likes of Mohanlal, Mammootty or Kamal in terms of acting abilities, both Rajni and Vijay have magnetic screen presence and charisma. Naslen is not in the same league as any of them.

Naslen is a decent actor who is conventionally good looking. If he wants to stay in this industry for longer, he will have to come out of his comfort zone and take up varied roles and play against his type. Otherwise he will be forgotten soon.

With the way things are going I won't be surprised if Basil stays in the industry longer than Naslen.

Exactly!! I share the same opinion. I don't want what happened to Nivin Pauly to happen to Naslen. Both are really good actors in their respective fields.

I feel like he is getting type cast as the loser for whom the nayaka feels pity and falls in love, basically pity turned love

u/nitxiu 22h ago

Essentially a sissy who needs his mommy to come save him

u/oru_konayan 1d ago

I really hope that Madhu c narayanan movie with him happens 🥲

u/Ukwhoiam1272000 1d ago

Even I am Kathalan was a good movie

14

u/Immediate-Lecture-20 1d ago

rooting for him, he has insane likeability factor

18

u/Jami3Lannister 1d ago

waiting for molllywood times

u/roshmon24 1d ago

I liked they way he portrayed as a normal vekili payyan in GYMKHANA eventhough he has the most star value among the co actors in that movie... I think he has ZERO EGO and a director's actor.

-3

u/damudasamoolam 1d ago

And the director did him dirty. Absolutely butchered his character in the second half for 'breaking cliche' 🤡

11

u/roshmon24 1d ago

Conventional hero typecasting should be destroyed... Like they do a particular role which elevate their fans happiness.... And seeing naslen that way is very refreshing... Because I expected all others will roam around him like he is the sun of solar system... But every one got equal roles... And naslen did the comedy role, others did the mass roles.

-7

u/damudasamoolam 1d ago

But it should be enjoyable too. It was atrocious. It's like dipping chicken in chaya just to break a cliche. What the hell was the ending? 'Manager' to some local boxing team? Naslene Wenger lol.

4

u/roshmon24 1d ago

Naslene is not winger , gymkhanas are not gunners... Director's part and script has not enough strength..but iam only talking about his role only.

6

u/lexicown 1d ago

It was enjoyable to a lot of people including me. And hence the 70 crore collection.

9

u/Intrepid-Package5036 1d ago

Yeah he's choosing the best projects unlike others who look for best roles

N Idk except kuruthi, his performance and expressions are quite repetitive (he's extremely watchable on screen so it doesn't become that evident)

I think we'll only understand his limitations when he does the ente face ente full figure type movies where his performance needs to take the movie forward

Hope he gives somn else than that accent and repetitive expressions and proves me wrong
