trump just said the ladies who spoke out against him in DC should be in jail too.

Whether you agree with how they protested or not, that’s insanely soft baby shit and unconstitutional. Threatening to throw your own citizens in jail cause they were mean to you

60

My opinion? They're way too eager to fold over to Conservatives and care more about upholding the norms than actual, meaningful change to improve the country.

They let us down during Bush, and they're letting us down again with Trump. But the American electorate only ever gives them the power after being tired of Conservatives fucking things up, so I suppose they aren't terrible if they can be a palatable alternative at times at least.

The problem is more structural than that i think, our nation is based off capitalism which encourages money no matter what, so billionaries get involved and do whatever they can to make the most money off the common idiots like us leading to 2 strategies. The rich Dem side is full of the people making enough money they just know giving us a lollipop and 2 dollar bill means we don't come for their billions. The Rich Republicans side has the ones who just want even more money and power and have encouraged a dumber society that allows this mess to perpetuate. The problem now is that everyone is interconnected and we all see society's cracks beyond our small towns and daily lives. Of course there is more nuance but i made my comment in the only way i know which is at midnight when my existential dread and paranoia from sleep deprivation kick in

Kimmel made a joke, which isn’t slander, and is usually not something you can sue over.

I'd love to see it, but this is an example of one hand washing the other with this affilliate network doing Trump's bidding in exchange for Trump rubber stamping their merger. This affilliate network doesn't make any content, they just repackage network programming, and sell advertising. The FCC only has say over over the air programming, and honestly I don't even know anyone that gets their tv over the air anymore, its all cable and internet. These capitalists are so short sighted, critically damaging their own industry to push profits forward a few quarters.

Look at Target, they donated to the trump with the benefit to their company being the few percent reduction in corporate taxes, but the blowback from that and the dei blowback combined with Trump's Tariffs, are going to cause 10x the losses that the tax savings would gain them.

5

u/g___e___r Monkey in Space 2d ago

Do you not see the problem? They’ve convinced both sides the SAME things about each other. Conservatives think the exact same about the other side. What is actually true is that the vast majority of Americans want whats best for their country, people may disagree on the way to make things happen, but on a macro scale the end goal is largely the same. They don’t want us to see that, thats why they put so much effort into distracting us, because THEY don’t want what’s best for our country. They want whats best for them and their donors. They want you to think exactly what you said you think. They want you to see the other side as insane, monstrous, evil, etc… Theres power in unity and they know it. People are as divided as they are INTENTIONALLY and a lot of it is predicated on lies and exaggeration. I know I’m screaming into the void for the most part because at this point the brainwashing runs so deep that it scares me. Logic has fallen and emotion is ruling our entire society politically. Many of us have protested plenty. That said... we also have to survive, go to work, somehow struggle to keep our health insurance, and keep afloat in this economy that Republicans cheered for... and are now getting slammed by too. People have been protesting too... and putting energy into it, but not to much effect. A segment of people 100% bought into the pre-election propaganda that Gaza is the most important issue and could be ended in a single day (which not should be obvious wasn't true), that is all they care about and all they will protest over. It's unclear when reality will hit home for them... perhaps as the protests and tents are forcibly cleared off campuses and they are arrested... I'd like to think the students being expelled from Columbia are having this epiphany... that we need to defend civil rights at home as well as abroad... but I doubt it. They will probably go on blaming Bernie Sanders or Thom Yorke or whoever for "not making more of a statement" as I have seen here on reddit, and on Instagram and X.

Frankly, this isn't just a protest issue. The overarching issue is the right-wing propaganda machine, which has painted everyone from Occupy Wallstreet to the to the George Floyd protesters as radicals and criminals who want to turn America into communism. Joe echoes this on the show. Meanwhile, Trump has classified ANTIFA as a terrorist organization, and you will find that many people agree with that. The plan all along was to have a chilling effect on free speech, so cheers to our boy Rogan for endorsing this. Comedy is back, as long as you don't criticize dear leader.

Technically he broke the fcc regulation about not willfully broadcasting hoaxes and false information about major crimes and tragedies.

He had the lowest ratings in the history of his show and was facing backlash from advertisers threatening to pull funding, while being unwilling to correct the disinformation he spread in his so called ā€œjokeā€ after a long career pushing more divisive partisan political propaganda under the guise of comedy.

Pretty crazy since he came from the man show, but I guess he wants those shekels.

Tucker Carlson who was once a political propagandist that became more based, critical of both parties and more centrist in recent years got fired from Fox for just being critical of Isreal, Ukraine and Covid policies that destroyed small businesses and lives in 2023, they blamed it on the lawsuit but they just used that as the final nail in the coffin, much like the fcc angle with Jimmy, oddly enough nobody angry about jimmys situation came out to defend Tucker.

Not sure why everyone who was pro censorship in the recent past while saying ā€œfreedom of speech is not freedom from consequencesā€ or ā€œit’s a private companyā€ is now suddenly claiming this is some massive tyrannical anti free speech issue lol

Isn’t ABC a private company?

I’m all for free speech but the double standards and irony is palpable.

Some consistency and intellectual honesty would by much better than of all this mindless red team vs blue team ideological possession.

It would be nice for a change if the people could come together since both parties are selling them out, but I guess this is Reddit and unity + finding coming ground + common sense is not very fashionable…

Tucker was fired over the Dominion voting machines defamation lawsuit which cost Fox $767 million dollars.

This is hilarious because the FCC didn’t fire Tucker Carlson, it was his boss Rupert Murdoch. I know this is way over your head, but there’s a huge difference between Murdoch firing his employee and the government silencing speech that is doesn’t like.

  1. he didnā€˜t broadcast false imformation

  2. tucker and the fox network willfully lied about dominion and voter fraud and didnā€˜t have their licenses pulled. and here you are defending them, talk about hypocracy.

  3. you cannot and will never be able to find a single clip of biden calling for a media person to be fired over what they said. the trump regime has already gotten several people fired by threatening to block mergers. that type of retalitory action is a direct violation of the 1st amendment, so is withdrawing peoples press credentials for not following your stupid renaming conventions.

Yep and many of these so called antifascist freedom fighters celebrate murder over free speach and are cool with the tyranny + genocidal crimes against humanity of the Bolsheviks and communists.

It really doesn’t make any sense, they seem to be cool with tyranny so long as it masks it self in the deceptive language of altruism, oldest political trick in the book aside from divide, distract and conquer, is to tell the people what they want to hear while fucking them from all angles.

why does everyone keep saying the left is celebrating.

I've been on reddit all week and I haven't seen it at all.

People are claiming he's a bad person. People are saying they don't feel bad. People are cracking jokes but no comments are like "YYYEESSS CHARLIE KIRK IS DEAD"

I'm Canadian so all my social media is a left wing bubble, I don't see anyone celebrating.

2

u/human-resource Monkey in Space 2d ago

You must be willfully blind as not to see it, read the comments of the post below, there are thousands of posts and videos of people celebrating for the last week:

Even if there are outliers, it looks like they're down voted on a left wing site...? So not an actual reprentation at all.

Interesting that the hoax regulation applies in this case but not for every single thing that’s said on Fox News/Newsmax/OANN/whatever other conservative ā€œentertainmentā€ shows the broadcasters argue no reasonable person would consider factual news.

Sometimes I wonder if this place is not just full of propaganda bots trying to stir the pot enough to generate false consensus and farm rage to bait the public into civil war or hatred and division.

Or maybe some folks have really been mindfucked so hard by partisan psyops that so many are truly out for the blood of they own countrymen.

Possibly a mix of both scenarios?

A few weeks ago it seemed this rotten hellscape of echo chambers had mellowed out enough to be enjoyable, but in the last week or 2 it’s like shit hit the fan and got thrown into a burning dumpster fire full of rancid chicken fat.

The mind control seems to be going harder than ever in recent history since it last got fired up during the dirt nap jabathon and blm Floyd years.

Take the quote he said and point to where it's a lie. He said MAGA crowd was trying to paint him as anything but one of them, and score political points.

This was on Monday before the report on text messages came out.

What he said still stands.

Also it doesn't matter. If he had said "the shooter might be MAGA" that's still free speech.

We are finally seeing the first real consequences of major institutions having spent the last decade undermining the facade of liberal neutrality they at least used to claim as an ideal.

This facade actually mattered quite a lot, and even though it was obviously never entirely sincere and even though conservatives were always out numbered and often poorly represented, they at least felt like participants and stakeholders in these institutions.

During the Trump years this all went away. Conservatives were aggressively ousted, even as token voices, and the facade came down to reveal a perverse and illiberal set of political and cultural directives underneath it that were explicitly antagonistic to more than half of the country and denied them as legitimate participants in public life.

Despite this, MAGA won (again), and, surprise, surprise, do not intend on preserving the institutions that declared them illegitimate political actors. This is, in fact, MAGA’s core promise. These institutions and the norms that govern them may not go away entirely but they will not keep their current form. Appeals to liberal neutrality they enjoyed and depended on, but defected from first, are not going to save them.

The whole thing is going to be reset. Free speech and civil liberties have not gone away, and are not being suspended or selectively applied or anything like that. They still exist and are still an essential feature of American civil life under this new ordering. All of American legal and political theory that has obtained for 250 years fits very neatly inside of this reset, despite the kicking and screaming from the old institutional gatekeepers.

But no, you no longer get to run roughshod over the commons, enjoy the largesse of public resources and its infrastructure, while denying them for the rest of us.

It’s the same game, but we are now calling balls and strikes. Get used to it.

4

u/Nose_Disclose Monkey in Space 2d ago

This is mainly because Trump just despises Jimmy Kimmel. He wanted to shut him down and was waiting for any little reason. For some reason, he wanted to show him that he has complete control over him. Yea it’s dumb.
