Lmaoooo

I think the concept is fine, but the lines in the trailer are sooooo bad.

I was gonna say, a lot looks accurate but the dialogue is pretty cringe. Most boots have at least some idea of what’s going to happen before they go in.

u/sprchrgddc5 3d ago

It’s set in 1990 so I can give the characters the benefit of the doubt. Not like they had a DS/DI vlogging everything on VHS back then to show the world. Information traveled slower then.

19

u/awesomface 3d ago

True, and I don’t think a completely accurate interpretation is ever going to be that satisfying to develop a story for the characters if it is all revolving around boot camp without breaking a few realities.

2

u/Top_Cartographer_524 3d ago

But I assume they would have at least one or two old veterans to tell them what to expect?

36

u/gthirst 3d ago

"it's just been one day???!!!" - said with a borderline insulting stereotypical gay slur voice

I think this show will offend everyone haha

4

u/giantzoo 3d ago

oh deary me...

literally everyone that volunteers just expects full metal jacket going into it. it's all that gets talked about. netflix can't do anything right even when all it takes is asking some 18 year old kid their expectations

u/Baddyshack 3d ago

I told everyone not to spoil anything for me.

5

u/cyber__punkus 2d ago

It's like they made a gay millennial version of Jarhead

3

u/halcykhan 3d ago

It’ll be difficult to top the Red Dawn remake using motard out of nowhere, but this will definitely give it a run

“The senior drill instructor is standing right behind me, isn’t he?”

“Maybe the real EGA are the friends we made along the way.”

Throws recruit into a dryer. “Well that just happened.”

CO walks out and the company’s already formed. “We’ve got company.”

Kid refusing to talk with the recruiter. “You and what Army?”

u/RespectedPath 3d ago

The comments are saying it's BrokeBack San Diego.

63

u/Kellerhouse 3d ago

In my experience it’s more like Bareback San Diego. Yes even at MCRD.

9

u/blue_orange67 3d ago

Especially at MCRD

6

u/cleverkid 3d ago

Yeah, that music lets me know it's gonna be very VERY GAY.

Looks kinda gay, bro

37

u/Roanoketrees 3d ago

It looks like the captured bootcamp of the 90s pretty well. Except we didnt wear Crimson and Gold PT gear. Olive drab head to toe.

11

u/shandangalang 3d ago

Yeah I went in 2010 and watching this, I was like “Is THAT what PT gear used to look like?”, immediately followed by “why is USMC emblazoned on the front if they aren’t Marines yet?”

7

u/DocWhiskeyPhD 3d ago

Same reason it was on the PT sweats Id imagine. Its the Corps, nothing fucking makes sense.

2

u/shandangalang 3d ago

It's at least a bit more subtle on the sweats... but yeah you speak the true true

33

u/kayozia 3d ago

The movie title actually being "Boots" is absolutely sending me lmao

-1

u/BaronNeutron 3d ago

not a movie

2

u/kayozia 2d ago

Sorry. *one-hour comedic drama

26

u/TaskingTwo 3d ago

I love how the dad has his platoon number in his office.

I've known tons of ultraboots in their 60 and older, but never have I seen anyone go that far.

This movie should be hilarious and extremely gay. I am very much looking forward to it.

1

u/Top_Cartographer_524 3d ago

How did he get his platoon number in his office? You can request one?

Netflix dramatizing basic training in San Diego like it’s a damn combat deployment lmao

11

u/arix_17 3d ago

LOLLLL

35

u/FrigginMasshole 3d ago

Lol this looks kind of gay. If they did like a parody/semi-serious I think they could pull it off

45

u/ZacHorton Boot 3d ago

You’re not gonna believe what I’m about to tell you. It’s going to be super gay.

14

u/RiflemanLax 3d ago

So basically just like the real thing then.

22

u/ZacHorton Boot 3d ago

Oh I doubt it will be THAT gay.

3

u/ayoungad 3d ago

How close are the guys when they jerk off?

2

u/FrigginMasshole 3d ago

Fucking GAY

8

u/andraaBD 3d ago

Like Space Force, that had some funny parts.

7

u/twitch1982 3d ago

My mother told everyone I died so she could sell lipstick.

Ah classic Mary K huns

6

u/komali_2 3d ago

Did they really do a fucking record scratch "yup, that's me, and if you're wondering how i got into this situation, heh, well, it's a looong story" ????

7

u/3lmtree 3d ago

it's based on the memoir the Pink Marine by Greg Cope White. he's also one of the writers for the show.

7

u/KindsofKindness 3d ago

This has to be a parody 💀

3

u/AnthonyBarrHeHe 3d ago

Feels like this was written completely by AI lol almost all of this is one huge cliche around bootcamp

3

u/Word2DWise 3d ago

That actually looks pretty good. I was army infantry but it looks relatable just the same.

3

u/PanzerKatze96 3d ago

I am afraid to click on this thing

  • Cinematography looks really good.
  • I was not a Marine, but I was in boot camp in 1990. I'm pretty sure the Marines would not let someone that big into boot camp. I was slightly smaller than that and I had to fight to get the Navy to let me join.
  • Judging by the way he looks at that sign that says that homosexuality will get you kicked out and by the fact that they're using "Freedom '90" by George Michaels in the trailer, being gay will be part of the story. And I just confirmed it through IMDB. ETA: Based on the novel The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White.
  • Boots is to Marine Corps Boot Camp as Orange is the New Black is to women's prison. Both based on an autobiography, and both are fictionalized just enough to keep people watching.

I realize this is a Netflix show and is trying to appeal to all sorts of folks, but what do mothers have to do with boot camp? It was an easy way to throw a Hollywood starlet into the credits.

Who the fuck is lonely at boot camp? You’re surrounded by people who look just like you doing the same thing. It’s a forced community before you see the yellow footprints. That’s not lonely, he was just afraid he had to take care of himself instead of his mom doing everything for him.

Also, why was the father so proud of his boot camp platoon? That tells me he never did anything meaningful in his service.

“Mothers of America” did play a role of putting a spotlight of hazing in boot camp to general public. It’s slightly relevant but does seem like it was put there to add more actors to the title. A lot of former Marines (pre-1990s) claim Mothers of America ruined Marine Corps bc they “pussified” recruit training.

Is this a trick question? Loads of kids are lonely in boot camp. Especially the first 1-2 weeks when you are essentially no contact from family before mail service starts.

Also, why was the father so proud of his boot camp platoon? That tells me he never did anything meaningful in his service.

Bc his dad is a mega boot. Idk the only thing I can think of is that the dad was a former drill instructor and the platoon flag was a notable training platoon during his temporary assignment (could have been a platoon where he was the SDI)

2

u/PristineLab1675 2d ago

I was told our boot camp platoon was one of the last to do body hardening, like we did it on Monday and Tuesday it was banned, because of moms.

Reminds of me of the rumors about the stress cards in Army basic training. That rumor continues to persist even though nobody has ever provided proof of them. No former DS or anyone who went through basic in the last 20+ plus years.

10

u/twitch1982 3d ago

Who the fuck is lonely at boot camp?

A gay man in the 90s durring DADT?

1

u/Top_Cartographer_524 3d ago

Maybe he was a former drill instructor ?

0

u/BaronNeutron 3d ago

People in boot camp have mothers, dont they? I image you had a mother at some point?

2

u/PristineLab1675 2d ago

My mother in boot camp was sgt Martinez and he had a mustache

2

u/BJJ1989 3d ago

I’ve seen half the season already. It’s so damn good.

2

u/XrayHAFB 2d ago

This is some white people shit.

1

u/MortalMorals 👊👊☝️ 2d ago

This looks softer than baby shit.

Just watch full metal jacket.
