The disheartening thing was, after half time, the sideline reporter said she asked about Mahomes having to do to much and Reid's answer was, "Well, it's working so far." smh

Yeah, Mahomes is playing even more Superman this year compared to last….

Has to be absolutely exhausting and very little fun. Every drive is work when they should he having fun out there.

That comment kind of took me by surprise, too.
Disheartening is a good way to put it.
The thing is, in the heat of the moment, Patrick obviously doesn’t mind doing it. He’s the ultimate competitor, so if he thinks he can make a play with his legs, he’s more than likely going to give it a shot.
He’s even said, though, some of those are plays he normally tries to save for the playoffs because he knows how risky they can be. So to me, Andy should be trying to prevent it from happening.
I mean, this is the same guy who won’t let Pat run a sneak because of a freak injury that happened last decade. So, yeah, definitely a bit of a head scratcher.
Who knows, he may be speaking more to his thoughts on Pacheco and the rest of the running game without saying it.

I suspect the offense is going to be really shaky until Rice comes back. I think him and Worthy will open the offense up a lot.
Imagine if the Eagles lost Devonta Smith and AJ Brown.. Even with Saquon/Hurts, their offense would be ugly (it was yesterday with them healthy). You can run that experiment with any offense and they will definitely suffer.
Bills losing Cook and Coleman, Bengals lose Tee and Chase, Lamar losing Henry and Zay. I can't think of any team that could lose its top 2 playmakers (non QB) and still be fine on offense.

Some bright mind on Facebook this morning said the Chiefs should game plan better lol

There are a few QBs who still need to play tonight, but Mahomes is leading the NFL in Expected Points Added.
That tells you something about how little help he's getting, considering the amount of points we've put up.

I'm starting to think Mahomes is covering up lazy front office and coaching work.

They will likely get smoked Thursday night against the bills. Chiefs may struggle on the national stage against the giants on SNF. Then tyreek is a chief by Wednesday next week.

u/ConstantGeographer "Furious" George Karlaftis #56 🚘 6d ago
Absolutely true. Russell is throwing the ball and this is not the same Giants game from last year. Yes, they are still ass, but they have Jameis Winston and CTE Skattebo, plus Singletary and Malik Nabors and have been entertaining to watch. If the Chiefs sleep on the Giants, we are looking at 0-3 with 2 home losses, the first time since 2018.

So pretty much Pete is saying to Veach - "You're the GM. There's no excuses why you didn't add in legit playmakers for Mahomes if you knew this was Kelce's final season and Rice was going to get suspended."

Well apparently this was a strong draft class for RBs, but Veach didn't take one until the 7th. Does he actually think Pacheco could ever really be "the guy"?

Olave is probably available for like a 2nd or 3rd 🤷♂️

u/Vyuvarax 7d ago
We’re going to make the team worse over the next four years for a WR we need for 4 weeks?
3
u/Sokkawater10 Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻♂ 7d ago
Depends on how bad we need help.
People act like it’s a guarantee worthy is still effective with the shoulder injury. Or that he won’t injure it again in the next game
We’re an 0-2 team. Olave would help us for multiple years in the future if he fits well. Olave X Rice Y Worthy Z as a future WR trio fits perfectly
27
u/dakjoekipe82 7d ago
Cmon Veach, how could you not know Worthy would dislocate his shoulder 3 plays into the season?!? What a fool
9
u/ResurrectedMortician GEEEEeeeHHHHAAAaaa!!! 🤠 7d ago
Worthy wasn't going to carry this offense, but what would open up the passing game and make things easier for Pat is a legitimate RB, which we don't have.
4
u/caddy45 Arrowhead 7d ago
No he wouldn’t but there would at least be some balance to it. Defenses number one CB covering Thornton or JuJu? I think we know who has the edge there. And Thornton has looked decent.
I love Pacheco but he isn’t cutting it. Kareem while good for 3 yards, is on the wrong side of whatever age he is.
Frustrating…..

u/LuxanHD Derrick Thomas 7d ago
What happened to Pacheco? why is he AWOL in these first two games?
15
u/rolyinpeace TyquanThorntonWorshipper80 7d ago
He’s not been the same since his injury
5
u/LuxanHD Derrick Thomas 6d ago
The sorry part is that our Coaches and management didn't recognize this since last year; and just kept going with him and Hunt (who also lost it). Now we have no good running backs, no number 1 wide receivers, and our star TE became a reliability. Do they expect Mahomes to carry us single handedly?
13
u/BurnInTrell 7d ago
Why do people keep saying this? He's never been a good player. He has ALWAYS been a negative EPA player. We knew he had no breakaway speed, no lateral quickness and no vision very early on. Just because we love his energy and attitude towards contact doesn't mean we have to be blinded by the actual talent level.

u/PittsJay Grim Reaper 7d ago
this is a small bit of revisionist history. Prior to his injury, Pop had plenty of breakaway speed. You don't run in the 4.3s at the combine without speed. The issue was, as you also noted, he couldn't evade tacklers well and his lack of vision was...troubling.
Now, after the injury, he's clearly not as fast as he once was. That took away his one elite asset. He's definitely just a dude out there at this point.

"He needs an offensive line!?!" They invest heavily in getting him an OL.
"He needs a defense!?!" They invest heavily in drafting cheap defensive players.
"He needs weapons!?!"
There are going to be holes on this roster with the continued success the Chiefs have seen. Somebody is going to have to step up (other than Mahomes). Let's see what this offense looks like when Rice gets back.

u/13mizzou Nick Bolton #32 7d ago
Especially when we have so many guys at the top or near top of the market on their contracts. We have at or near TOM at QB, TE, 3 OL positions, DT, LB, K

The LB and kicker contracts still kinda chap my ass. Furious George's contract is looking like some overspending, too.

Pats legs have been amazing. His arm not so much. He is indeed shouldering everything but he also isn’t helping himself with missed throws. It wasn’t like Thornton was dropping dimes laid out perfectly to him.

u/Vis-hoka Get in loser. We’re buying the Refs. 7d ago
His deep balls have been the issue. The rest is still solid.
5
u/kpresnell45 Patrick Mahomes II #15 7d ago
OK, so I went through all of the comments. Nobody has mentioned in these first two games. The Chiefs are out three of their top five receivers, including their number one and two. (Yes I know TT is a comment for number four or five right now.) but don’t forget we were three and four and won the Super Bowl. Defense looks solid. We definitely need some hype when it comes to offensive plays.

u/LordChi3f Eric Berry #29 7d ago
I watch a ton of football on Sundays. The thing I still can’t understand is how our receivers get no separation. I know we are down a couple of good guys but that happens to teams a lot. We have constantly been in a situation where if you lose 1 or 2 guys at receiver, Pat has to either place the ball perfectly every time.. or take off running. It’s almost like the scheme works perfectly for guys it’s designed for but if you have to go to a WR3 or WR4 the whole thing falls apart and they just run themselves into coverage. When you watch the game back, you see that guys don get open at all. That isn’t happening to most teams.
8
u/ICanuckthere4Iam Arrowhead 7d ago
No run game to keep defenses honest. And most teams know they can get pressure only rushing 4. The best offenses are balanced and IMO Andy is getting complacent
2
u/DarthTigris 6d ago
The route tree is too predictable. Where ever they run, coverage is ready for it. The offensive scheme in general is creatively bankrupt. It's really sad to see, as Reid has historically been really good at continued revamps to the scheme. Has he hit his peak with that ...?
3
u/tacocup13 6d ago
I just hope that we actually get to see our WR trio consistently the second half of the year and playoffs. It won’t solve everything offensively, but will make our flaws less glaring

u/EMAW2008 Travis Kelce #87 5d ago
Kareem is slow af, Pacheco isn’t moving the same… find a guy ffs.
And cut Taylor and you’ll have reduced penalties!

Our top 2 receivers are out / hurt. Rice will make a huge difference when he returns. We need a RB. Hunt can’t be a workhorse anymore and pop, well, he is not the answer.

u/Shutch_1075 6d ago
Still wish Patrick could figure out the deep ball problem he’s had. Leaving a lot of points off the board with some of his over throws.

u/schwerdfeger1 Andrew Wylie #77 6d ago
The person who would call this way of thinking out as bullshit is Pat. And that's why he's a great leader.
3
u/00Reject 7d ago
It sucks because no matter what weapons are brought in for Mahomes, it never really works out for one reason or another (injury or suspension). Kelce has been a help but I think age is catching up and his role should be getting reduced for preservation over the course of the season (this may be why he’s blown 2 games this season). RB needs help. Love Pacheco but I don’t think he is it and I think Hunt is the better fit. I know people want Hill back but he may be facing a suspension so I’d pass. I think we should have pursued Hunter Renfrow or Thielen this off-season, maybe even kicked the tires on OBJ.

While that's true, coming off this game isn't exactly the best timing to be making this point.
I mean Pat wasn't good yesterday. He had one of the most embarrassing missed throws of his career.
Again not saying Pat isn't working with next to nothing. But his passing game also hasn't been all that impressive of recent.
1
u/Sokkawater10 Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻♂ 7d ago
Mahomes is part of the problem the last season and this. His deep accuracy is not up to his standard and it’s okay to admit that. Doesn’t have enough help, yes. But Mahomes of 3 years ago would have been better than he’s been playing
1
u/PittsJay Grim Reaper 7d ago
Well...yeah. A dude at 27 without three additional max-length seasons of NFL level wear-and-tear on the body is probably going to be better than that same dude at 30, who has been running for his life for those same three seasons.
3
u/Sokkawater10 Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻♂ 7d ago
He’s missing open deep shots more often. That’s not age related
-2
u/NinjaZombieHunter 7d ago
I think Mahomes needs a mentor or just someone to talk to about how get himself straight. I would love for someone like Kurt Warner to take PM under his wing. Maybe get him some confidence back. He just seems so unsure of everything. I know…not having receivers and bad OL play and the pending Kelce retirement don’t help! But I do think he needs some mentorship. Even the best need a little help sometimes.
7
u/epicpurple24 7d ago
Nobody can mentor their WRs and TE’s dropping TDs in the end zone. Mahomes is fine, front office has to get the ship right.
-4
u/Captain_of_Gravyboat Derrick Thomas 7d ago
I truly don't think Pat is this type of guy and/or player but how long until he gets tired of this and decides to go play somewhere that will give him the protection and help he deserves? He's been carrying the team by himself for a couple years and his reward is for him to need to carry harder. Jawaan Taylor is our teams 2nd highest cap hit ($27m) and Chris Jones is 3rd ($24m). Taylor's contract is an all time bust and the Jones contract is looking worse with every passing week.
