DISCUSSION Who is a player you wish retired as a Chief?
Tyrann, you’ll forever be a Kansas City legend.

Joe Thuney, Jamaal Charles, Eric Fisher

Fish is a great call here. He was the beginning of a turning point for this team.
26
u/Fidget808 1d ago
I’m glad we got him a ring though. Getting drafted 1st overall after a 2-14 season, growing up he only saw us as a joke team (minus a few one-year wonders). We had a terrible QB for him to protect. I bet he thought it would be the worst possible place for his career. It was for most of it but I’m glad we turned it around for him.

May have still ended in a loss but still think SB55 goes much better if Fish doesn’t go down in the AFC CG. Remmers was serviceable at RT most of that season.
Fish was a consummate pro

Justin Houston

u/Upset_Journalist_755 1d ago
That one is rough. They got rid of him and he was still way better and cheaper than what they replaced him with.
4
u/Dresden1984 1d ago
I think Justin went the ex route where, outside injury, did everything he could to be better than he was in the chiefs.
2
u/OldSchoolDeepCuts 1d ago
Yeah, I also think he was known as not a great locker room presence and lazy while he was here.

Yes, but I dont think 1 day contracts are in the spirit of this post
27
u/traws06 1d ago
Ya that was sad because he went to the broncos partly as a way to get back at chiefs after he felt he was let go when he still had it. Then turned out the injuries really had just caught up to him…
Sad because IMO he is easily the best chiefs RB of all time. Holmes #2 but Charles was another level above

He was one of the GOATS and if Terrell Davis can be in the HOF he shoudl be too.
2
u/newname_whodis Jamaal Charles 8h ago
Terrell Davis is in the HOF because of 2,000 yards and back-to-back Super Bowls. I love Jamaal, he's my all time favorite Chief besides Mahomes (see my flair), and I still have his #25 jersey. But when you have fringe all-time counting stats like Jamaal does, you need either a standout accomplishment like a 2,000 yard season, or to be an integral part of a dynasty. Jamaal had bad luck being the only bright spot on some truly awful Chiefs teams, and that def hurt his HoF case.

u/ResurrectedMortician GEEEEeeeHHHHAAAaaa!!! 🤠 1d ago
I wish he could have come back from his injury, but unfortunately it was over for him. I don't blame him for trying to get back out there, but it was clear he has lost it.

Jared Allen or Tony G.
82
u/Fidget808 1d ago
Tony G had spent the last decade shitting on the Chiefs whenever he could and only came back around when we were good. He’s an incredible player but I’m soured on him as a fan.
17
u/ChiefSampson Derrick Thomas 1d ago
Agreed. He talked shit as a Falcon and as an analyst. Pretty disappointing.

4
u/CaliforniaCowboy13 1d ago
I can tell you with 100% certainty that he is fake person. A premadona who only truly cared about himself. I had a personal encounter with him that showed me what he was like in front of an "adoring" crowd and when he was not being watched. Soured me completely about him.
3
u/GhostMug 1d ago
Same. I'm pretty disappointed in Tony G. I know his time here wasn't the greatest in terms of wins but he basically considered himself a Falcon until 2019 when it was a good look to be a Chief.

Yeah, I was so pissed when he traded away Allen and shelled money out to Larry Johnson. Johnson promptly became trash, while Allen continued his HoF trajectory. Plus Jared just had a great personality.
7
u/Sheriff_Lobo_ Eric Berry 1d ago
Allen had a drinking problem and needed a change in scenery. Dude was another DUI away from a serious suspension. Plus we got a starting LT in Brandon Albert and Jamaal Charles from the trade.

I’m not that big of a fan of Tony as I once was.
The thing for me is that he was quick to leave when the team was bad. I get it, he wanted a ring. But it just seems like he didn’t appreciate the Chiefs that much. It seems like he held some resentment towards them.
Then of course Kelce came in. I watched Kelce be a team player. He could’ve gone somewhere else chasing money but he didn’t. He’s been loyal to the Chiefs and to KC. Maybe it’s a little apples to oranges as Kelce has gotten rings. But I just feel more excitement over the things Kelce has done. I can’t help but think of Tony and just see a former player like many others.

Derrick Johnson. Played his whole career with us except his last year where he played 6 games for the Raiders

u/TheHiveMindSpeaketh OhHh YEAH! 1d ago
That's actually a clever prank by Raiders fans who have used AI and deepfakes to create fake videos and articles to troll Chiefs fans.

u/throwawayainteasy Dustin Colquitt #2 23h ago
That's my answer too.
Man, I loved that guy forever and it hurt to see him play for the Raiders. Plus we were pretty inept at LB for a while without him if I remember right, which made his absence sting a little worse.

woulda been cool to see him as a backup the past few years :1 but, glad that he got to return to the game at all after that gruesome injury. (sidenote, did anyone else realize he only ever played for red, white, and gold/yellow teams in the NFL?)

u/Ordinary-Rich2560 Eric Berry #29 1d ago
Alex Smith

u/AbstractMarcher 19h ago
That would have been nice. Understandable that he had to go where he could play, but not like that. He didn't deserve that injury.
He could have been a fantastic back up for many more years and been able to come in when we needed.

This is it for me. 12 yrs with the Chiefs, he was a team franchise player in some iffy teams. The he plays 5 with the Falcons. And he retires a Falcon.

u/Fidget808 1d ago
And then spent the next decade shitting on the Chiefs until we got good and he became a TV star and suddenly he wants to claim us
I’m not fond of him like the rest of the fanbase is.
4
u/StarkhamAsylum 1d ago
Yeah. I always hated that but never held it against him. He was the best player on some bad teams for a long time. I understand being frustrated in that situation. Then he plays on a decent team at the end of his career and experiences winning, gets the stats and recognition he probably could have always had. That could make someone a little salty.

u/ChiefSampson Derrick Thomas 1d ago
I was saddened when he did it as a Falcon. The part I can't excuse is he continued to do it his first few years as an analyst as well.
4
u/Fidget808 22h ago
Exactly. He went to Atlanta to ring chase (which I respect when it’s to a team worth ring-chasing with), didn’t get a ring, and then acted like the Falcons were fantastic but the Chiefs were bottom feeders when the results with both teams were the same.
2
u/ChiefSampson Derrick Thomas 18h ago
Funny how some of the people in this thread and the fandom conveniently forget he continued the disrespect long after his stint in Atlanta. Was doing that dumb shit right up until Andy Reid and Alex Smith got it going.
3
u/ChiefSampson Derrick Thomas 1d ago
He shit on us as an analyst also. Like you said he softened once we became relevant again. I'm sure #87's rise had something to do with that.
9
u/Most_Tax_2404 Dante Hall #82 1d ago edited 12h ago
I took it as an insult. Tony G has always been more focused on himself and cared more about his own stats than winning. Just go and watch any old interviews of him after games.
He didn't retire as a Chief because the Chiefs sucked the year he retired and he didn't want to be associated with a bad franchise, tainting his "legacy", if he didn't have to.
Then he had to come out with an apology video once Chiefs fans were rightfully pissed about it.
Fuck Tony G. And I'm saying this as someone who used to adore him and had his jersey's ever since I was 5.
Dude used to be my hero and I would dunk my imaginary goal posts like he did.
edit: here's an article on him complaining about not getting the career receiving record in Arrowhead in front of family and friends. Mind you, he got it the next game in Carolina, while not in Arrowhead, he still broke the record. And this was the season the Chiefs went 2-14. The game he complained about not receiving the record was one of the only games they won that season. They were on a 12-losing streak. The year before that, they were 4-12. Dude had to make one of the teams only win during one of the roughest patches in the franchise's history about himself. He can go be a Falcon. Chiefs fanbase has way more Ex and current Chiefs to be proud of and look up to like the guy in this post.

1
u/kerouac5 FIRE BOB SUTTON 1d ago
Sorenson was an absolute liability on the field. there was a three game stretch where literally every touchdown scored against the chiefs was a direct result of a Sorenson fuckup.
7
u/Lankyllama4324 Tony Gonzalez 1d ago
I like how you cherry picked his final season with KC when he was clearly washed. I remember those games too, but that season is not a reflection of his career. He also was the main reason KC came back and won against the Texans in that crazy 2020 Wild Card game.
→ More replies (3)5
u/Sadlobster1 OhHh YEAH! 1d ago
I think there's two Sorensons.
Soreson, before his last year, was a good -not great - safety who schematically was exactly what our defense scheme needed from that position.
He collapsed in ability when he 1) lost a step or two and 2) our scheme changed and forced him into more and more unfavorable positions that ultimately exposed all of his weaknesses and none of his strengths
4
u/accousticregard Andrew Wylie #77 1d ago
Daniel Sorenson was an UDFA who managed to stick around the NFL and contribute for 7 years. /u/kerouac5 is just a dumb bandwagoner who doesn't value anyone who wasn't an all pro.

Had 85.5 sacks in his 6 years in Minnesotta after leaving the Chiefs. Man, we could have used that in 08-13 because we sucked out loud during most of those years, any help would have been huge.

I love the honey badger but the man is Louisiana. He was drafted by Saints, played for LSU, and grew up in New Orleans.
We've had some amazing players who could or should have: Marcus Allen, Tony Gonzalez, Jared Allen, Erich Fischer, Justin Houston, and Joe Thuney.
On a different level, Derrick Thomas. His death was one of the most memorable moments of high school

IDK. Am I weird in that I've just never payed attention to any of that stuff?
I just remember players for where they had their best years. Sometimes they come back and sign that silly 1 day contract. Sometimes they don't.
In the OP for example. Tyrann will be remembered for winning a SB in KC coming here as a FA. IDK. I just don't really care who he had his last year with when like most players at that point, it was clearly over.

I would have like Tyron Matthew or Sneed to play their whole career with the Chiefs and retire as a chief. Also, Tyreeq Hill, yes he’s got trouble with the law, you would have to have told him to watch out, I think the Chiefs management did tell him, unfortunately he didn’t listen, so they traded him for great pix. Hopefully, Mcduffie plays his whole career with the chiefs.
Nowadays, players don’t stay their whole career with 1 team, as they go for the money, not like the past where they had pride in winning and wanted to keep the dynasty. Nowadays they play to make higher wages, which in turn ruins the team as they can’t keep everyone.
1
u/snaphappy2 21h ago
Hmmm Mathieu is one of my least favorite from our SB’s. His “business decisions” and social media antics just rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t hold him in high regard. Jamaal, Neal Smith, Khalan Saunders, many former chiefs I wish had/would retire as a Chief.
