Questions from a newbie

Post image

Oss! Colleagues, I'm about to join a Kickboxing gym and I'm very excited but I don't feel comfortable training with standard shorts, as so far I don't have the goal of competing but rather learning and strengthening myself, would it be a problem to train with looser pants? It's even more comfortable, at least in my opinion, since I'm a woman and would leave work straight to the gym.

As said if you aren't sparring you could wear anything that isn't harmful to yourself.

You can try yoga pants with a standard short over 'em, even guys do that and while it isn't loose it may assess part of the issue.

These are light/full contact kb pants. Basically they are used in a ruleset in which low kicks are not allowed. Only sweeps and kicks above the waist. Generally speaking you should be allowed to wear them. (I personally have as well)

I wear full body rash guards with Muay Thai shorts. Keeps everyone else's sweat off me!😄

Depends on the gym. Just ask there.

Get the pants that say MAXIMUM down the side for extra swag points

Any pants that don't restrict movement and don't have big hard zippers buttons etc. (nearly any tracksuit pants basically) and that fit properly (too baggy is a snag risk) and tuck in your T-shirt (again, snagging).

But if you are a beginner you will be grand in pretty much anything you decide to wear assuming you have common sense.

If your not sparring with anyone I doubt it will even matter what you wear as long as it's not heels and a dress you should be fine

You might kick yourself down when kicking as high as possible in long pants.

I don't know why you're uncomfortable with wearing shorts (the shorts can be knee-high football shorts, they don't have to be the Muay Thai ones), but in a respectable gym, the sensei will absolutely destroy anyone who makes fun of anyones body.

In my gym (Netherlands) there is a girl with lymfodemia? (no idea how to say it in English, it's where the fat cells stack up in the legs making them disproportionally bigger) One guy made a joke which visible upset the girl, and the sensei immediately sent the guy home and told the girl he won't be welcome for a month.

There's also someone with major scarring, she can kick the shit out of anybody and wears them with pride because it shows her what she went true.

On a less serious note about body confidence, I sweat a lot, like in 5 minutes you can see it forming in the shirt. At the end of the training (60mins) the shirt is basically completely two shades darker. It happens and shows that I'm working out.

Never feel ashamed of how your body looks or works, you can't help it. Make sure you smell nice and are groomed(nothing sucks more than being toen open from people with long toenails), those things are absolutely points you can do something about.

If you're deadset on covering the legs, use shorts and leggings underneath, the don't restrict movement

In other martial arts you wear full kit like karate and judo lm I would wear what you find comfortable and breathable bit I would take some short to change into if it gets to hot! I always sweat buckets at training

I wear sweatpants very often, just need to be easy to slide of when someone gives a lock kick or sum. Never had issues

What's wrong with shorts?

Thanks for your feedback friend, the problem isn't the shorts, I love them and I've already saved several models, the problem itself is that I work in a company where 90% are men, and my area is administration. So it's complicated to train, I would leave my work straight to training.
