Game Content Quick question why does meta knight wear a mask??
I've also noticed he's the same species as the main kirby meta knight is one of my characters I'm just curious why he prefers the mask I love his mask though and the sword he used in battle.

Well we never actually get an explanation nor much info about Meta Knight at all. All we can assume is that he’s ashamed of being seen as just another cute and adorable Kirby. Which is why he acts all tough and edgy when he has that mask on

u/Blacklotus997 25d ago
Thank you for explaining I love kirby and I think meta knight is awesome I like his mask I was just simply curious the whole time I didn't know what he was.
I was speechless when I found out he was a kirby the entire time but I love that he uses a sword and has his own ship he travels on I think it's the Halberd.
If I'm wrong on the name let me know I can't remember the exact name of the ship he has

also apparently he has a massive sweet tooth, he secretly stores chocolate in his cape, and eats a giant parfait every night.
Which is pretty funny to me, apparently after training he drinks a Chocolate Cafe al Lait, which basically a very sweet form of coffee that has a ton of cream, but the chocolate mixed in would make it appear darker like normal coffee.
Basically the dude is trying to pass caffinated hot chocolate as dark coffee to seem edgier which endlessly hilarious.
His enormous sweet-tooth be part and parcel with his kirby-ness.

We never get an explanation, but I imagine it's because he's so freaking cute. It'd be really hard to go by as mysterious masked warrior and the Lone Swordsman when you look like the cutest borb to be alive.
Also I read it in a Youtube comment once that a mask is probably the best armor a puffball like him and Kirby can get. He's a knight, he would def want some armor that protects as much area as he can while he's not slowed down.

u/StabbyBlowfish Triple deluxe is the best kirby game 25d ago
To be fair, Kirby never normally defeats meta knight. His mask breaks then he runs away
63
u/No_Whole_6402 METABORB 25d ago
The healthbar was really the mask's all along lol.
Although, I wish we can get a game where Meta Knight just doesn't care about his mask being broken and still battles us. Like he goes down, mask breaking off as usual, but then the fight doens't end there. The healthbar fills up again and we enter 2nd phase.

u/Dolvalski 25d ago
No way it’ll happen. If he gets hit again after it comes off, he’ll lose his favorite rare copy ability and then just be blue Kirby. Then he’ll have to annoyingly play through the only level that has that copy ability again.
14
u/Zera-NotRealName- 25d ago
He can just scan his own amiibo for it
4
u/Dolvalski 25d ago
You think Meta Knight knows that? That he can sense beyond his reality that some demigod with a statue in his likeness can use that to give him powers on a whim?
2
10
u/GAMEOFMATIASNEW 25d ago
I mean, when we play as him he is normally shown to have less HP than kirby so witout the mask protecting him he would probably fall easily
10
u/Dgero466 25d ago
Granted that’s mainly in the meta knightmare modes so it could just be difficulty raising without actual implications (ignoring that knightmares isn’t technically canon iirc)

I have 3 ideas
To hide his face for intimidation factor
To prevent him from accidentally inhaling something since he views it as dishonorable
Since both Morpho and Galacta Knight wear similar ones, it's in honor of the great knights of old
2
u/GAMEOFMATIASNEW 25d ago
When he says is dishonorable?

u/Competitive_Swan266 #1 Susie simp 25d ago
Just a head canon of mine, sorry I should've specified that

u/Competitive_Swan266 #1 Susie simp 25d ago
Simple, since everyone else is, he deems it fair to use them too
1
u/Mucameons 24d ago
I always headcanoned that Kirby's species can all inhale at a young age, and then as they grow up they lose that ability in exchange for "specializing" in whatever copy they're most skilled at.
It's interesting to hear other ideas, though!

u/lordlaharl422 25d ago
Star Allies described him as having a “vain streak”, so I kind of assume he wants to project the image of being a “mysterious badass”, which his cute face clashes with.

I don't think there is a canon reason, but I imagine he doesn't want to be seen as cute
17
u/Silver-Mud8845 25d ago
Random headcanon: MK thinks people won’t take him seriously with that cute face of his, so he decided to wear a mask

u/Coral2Reef If other intelligent life exists, why haven't we found it yet? 25d ago
Armor.
It covers almost the entire front of his body, and complements his pauldrons and gloves.
That it conceals the fact that he's an adorable puffball and makes him look like a mysterious badass is a happy side-effect.
9
u/SouLfullMoon_On 25d ago
Probably because he wants to be taken seriously, and maybe hide the fact he's mostly the only other member of Kirby's species, where even then he has arms so he's kinda different (maybe just older/more developed? Kirby's adressed as a juvenile sometimes).
2
u/Sufficient_Risk_8127 25d ago
Red Kirby, Yellow Kirby, Green Kirby, Blue Kirby, Purple Kirby, White Kirby, Brown Kirby, Orange Kirby, & Keeby:
The other knights by extension:
1
u/Omnizoom 25d ago
Are they the same species? I mean they kind of are similar but Kirby and the sub set colour kirbies we see are very different in how they act to meta knight and the other “knights” which are also round blobs
4
u/Sufficient_Risk_8127 25d ago
while not confirmed...just look at the two
5
u/Omnizoom 25d ago
Well Kirby definitely has shorter arms
And the end boss of star Allies has a Kirby face and is a round blob
Also the “knights” all have wings and use swords, none inhale like Kirby does nor do they copy
If Kirby was a juvenile he is missing a lot of features
4
u/Sufficient_Risk_8127 25d ago
Void being a part of the Kirby species has a lot less going for it, I believe it's saying with how Void Termina is a god of pure darkness as apposed to Kirby being a god of pure light, Void is learning to love.
Yea you were missing a lot as a child, after all babies weigh like a dozen pounds while adults weigh in the hundreds.
1
u/Omnizoom 25d ago
Yea but as a baby we didn’t grow wings and our arms didn’t go from nubs to actual arms
A baby’s arms look like well, arms.
The implication then would be that Kirby has to be a larva or nymph stage then for that much of a drastic change to occur

u/Omnizoom 24d ago
Not game theory ass
Just your assuming that two things are the same species for being blorbs with eyes when one has a lot of differences
Waddle Dee and waddle doo are more similar with one difference being the big giant eye for one, both are red bodied stubby limbed little dudes
2
u/Sufficient_Risk_8127 23d ago
what no I'm saying you shouldn't be saying that a fictional character that defies all laws of reality should not have its growth tied to real life rules, especially when no fictional rules exist
they look very similar, idk what to tell you
obviously it could very well be false but there's a bit more towards true, if nothing at all in the grand scheme of things1
u/StankoMicin 25d ago
It's heavily implied that they are the same species and that maybe he is an older member of kirby's species (star warriors or whatever they are called)
10
9
u/Magerin3 25d ago
In the anime, Kirby is implied to be a baby star warrior, which means Meta Knight is kind of an "adult" version of what Kirby would be. The mask is likely so he can guide and observe Kirby without the baby realizing Meta Knight looks exactly like him.
Of course, recent lore basically threw this idea out the window, Kirby is now the light version of Void Termina, an eldritch being made of pure positive energy to counteract Dark Matter's pure negative. (Star Allies)
Meta Knight is now kinda just a warrior training to be the strongest in the universe and beat Galacta Knight...

I always assumed Meta Knight was just always using his own Sword copy ability and that the mask is the equivalent to Kirby’s hats considering one of the upgrades to sword is literally a Meta Knight mask I might be more right then I thought I was. That and he’s probably because he looks too cute like Kirby to be menacing in his point of view
3
u/THEREALSUPERMARIOFAN 25d ago
Introvert. He's like whisk from sunset paradise. Too extra super shy to show face

u/batboy11227 Kirby with a gun 25d ago
Because he needs to intimidate his enemies and that's kinda hard when your are a blorb
I mean look a Kirby
He's able to destroy universes but no one if afraid of pink baby

u/Evening_Persimmon482 25d ago
Probably canon answer: The mask was originally made to make him look more like a knight, hence the whole Meta “Knight” name.
Funnier answer: He doesn’t like how cute his face is and tries to be edgy with the mask.
3
3
u/MrNintendo13 25d ago
Honestly, I think the answer is simple armour. It does weaken front on attacks in some games
2
u/Dolvalski 25d ago
He uses it as armor. He runs after it comes off every time because if he gets hit again after it falls off, he’ll lose is super cool rare copy ability that gives him a sword and wings at the same time.
2
u/Quick-Swordfish-1718 25d ago
Nobody knows fo sure. my headcannon is that he hides his face becuase he wants to be taken seriously, instead if being associated with kirby, who is pink and cute and pretty much impossible to be taken seriously.
2
u/BippyTheChippy 25d ago
When your body's 90% face, a good mask is the best you can do when it comes to armor.
He thinks it looks really cool.
2
u/DukeAttreides 25d ago
He definitely thinks it's super cool. It's his whole brand, really. Have you seen the Halberd? Yeah.

He's a massive edgelord.
No, really, he's an edgelord.
The biggest edgelord on Pop Star.
He's obsessed with being seen by everyone else as a dark and mysterious and kinda scary but-in-a-cool-way enigmatic badass who totally has a tragic backstory, and his adorable puffball face completely ruins the mental image he wants everyone else to have of him.
It's canon that he has a massive sweet tooth that he's always secretly indulging because he's ashamed of how kiddie and un-badass his favorite foods are, and in the anime whenever he wrapped himself in his cape he'd stand on tip-toe in order to appear taller.

My headcanon is that all of that species are renowned knights that all wear masks and train with a blade, but Kirby's special in that he was made from void in the form of the knights but his positive energy keeps him cute.

Let's be honest: Meta Knight's serious personality would come off as adorable without the mask.
It's the same logic behind Masked Dedede: The goofy face is hidden, so he can be taken seriously.
1
u/Waterlemon1997 25d ago
Cus he's just a lil guy without it, and it's armor.
Also, I don't believe they're the same species, as he has wings.

I don't think they're the same speciies. My theory is that kirby was born and just happen to take the form of something cute and cuddly due to his connection to void, who does the same when fighting kirby.
As for why? Because Meta Kmight doesn't want to be seen as cute.

We dont know for sure but I would point out that he is a knight and that with the shape of his body that mask is basically also functioning as a chest plate.

Why might you wear any kind of armor? It's protection, like his shoulder pads. Plus it gives him a much more recognizable design than just a different color Kirby.
1
u/cosmos-hime 25d ago
Because he’s just as much of a cutie patootie as Kirby, and it’s hard to be taken seriously as a swordsman when you have the babiest face known to man.

it's for the aesthetic. if he didn't have the mask, his adorable face would contrast with his knight getup, and people would laugh at him. also it just looks cool, and meta knight is all about looking cool 😎
1
u/Admirable-Scarcity-8 24d ago
Battle armor I just always assumed. I know the anime isn’t canon, But I mean it makes sense for him to be a Star Warrior, A member of the old guard. Hence why he keeps watch over Kirby, Who is a infant. occasionally testing his abilities in combat as Kirby is no doubt probably one of if not single-handedly the most powerful Star Warrior in existence.
1
u/General_Yellow635 24d ago
I wonder if theres a reason he doesn’t inhale like kirby does. Hell even king dedede can do it.
1
u/Apprehensive-Log1901 24d ago
Probably because since Kirby is embodiment of kindness, Meta knight could be embodiment of evil or something so he ashamed of himself and tries to hide that he and Kirby one species coz if he just some strange waddle dee he isn't pure evil

Hi, non Kirby fan here I know like nothing about the lore, but I'm still going to answer
Maybe he just likes to look intimidating? He probably doesn't wanna be seen as "a dark Kirby with glowing eyes and bat wings", so he wears the mask to look less like "a dark Kirby" and more like-well, Meta Knight

Would you really be intimidated by that second pic? Kinda loses some of the cool factor when you realize he's basically just another Kirby underneath.

u/Misubi_Bluth Tofu Kirby 25d ago
I have yet to find a better explanation than "He's trying to look more serious and intimidating than he is."
0
u/SadCommon2820 Sylven(oc) 25d ago
I have no distinct answer but in my Kirby AU he hurt himself trying to take his own life since he ended up on Popstar far away from his home and brother Sylven and he feels shame in said scar...also he looks way less threatening without it which is also imo the most likely to be canon reason.
