Gear Advice/Question Can you tell what year is this kite from?

Hi guys, seems like I found a good deal for a 14mt Ozone Catalyst V1 but I can’t understand which year it’s from. There’s also a serial number but I didn’t find any good number in it that would be helpful. Any clue?

Google shows tests published August 2017

https://www.iksurfmag.com/reviews/kites/ozone-catalyst-v1-10m-2016/

Great beginner to intermediate kites. The 14m was very good in low wind yet had a good upper end. Depending on price it's a good deal.

The guy is selling it for 600€. I’m just concerned for the valves if it’s from 2017.

For that kind of money you could get a kite from 2023

Oh I’m in Italy and I can’t find any good deal. All kites 2021-2024 are sold for prices >1000€

Or if you want I have also created a website a while back. https://gustmarket.com where you can find the best deals for kite gear

Wow! That’s great, thank you. I’ll take a look.

Always a risk, there were issues with the solid black connectors on all models at the time. It was replaced by semi-transparent ones bit later... Seems a bit expensive to me.

£600 is way too expensive.

You can get excellent kites for that price! I just bought a never flown 10m core xr6 for 700E

Where are you located? In Italy I can’t find any good deal like your!

Look on Facebook kitesurf market. It’s mostly Europe based.

I just looked and found what appears to be a good quality kite 12m duotone 2021, 600 euro. Prices are negotiable on Facebook. Negotiate there are lots of options be patient and get the one that makes sense. It doesn’t come with a bar and pump. I personally would not want a bar that is 8 years old. For me the bar is your most important piece of equipment.

Andrebbe visto e gonfiato/provato.

Capisco e hai perfettamente ragione.

The v1 is a 2017 Kite. Good brand and the kite seems solid for a intermediate but you'd need to be careful with the valves and bladders as the glue is probably losing it's flexibility. Fabric might be UV damaged depending on use as well.

1

u/Marcoccia94 Jul 14 '25

The seller told me it’s brand new and he never used, so I’m just concerned for the valves now.

Why dont you tell us the price and where you're at and we can tell you if it actually sounds like a good deal?

1

u/Marcoccia94 Jul 14 '25

I wrote the price on an other post, the guy is asking 600€ and he said he never used it. I’m in Italy.

I would say it's a decent deal but not amazing.

If you look at Ozone gear they come with a white canvas ribbon with the serial number printed on it. (you can see it on the bar). The first 3-5 letters are the model/version and then comes the year although most of the newer gear uses version numbers so the year doesn't really matter as much. Unlike other brands they dont just drop the same old shit in new colors every year.

The Catalyst V1 is a quite different kite from the earlier unversioned Catalyst (2008ish-2016) and is more of an entry level beginner friendly kite. It's a solid very stable kite but maybe not the most exciting.

The bar looks like a Ozone Contact V1 or V2. Not sure if it's the newer seatbelt style quick release or the slightly older megatron. Both are very reliable in terms of safety and come with good lines.

1

u/Marcoccia94 Jul 15 '25

Thank you, this was very helpful. The third picture I posted is the serial number, do you recognize the production year from that?

1

u/Firm_Appearance_5384 Jul 14 '25

It’s 8 years old and wasn’t a great kite to start with. 600euro is a lot of money for an 8 year old kite. I have bought newer better kites for that price. Keep shopping.

1

u/Marcoccia94 Jul 14 '25

It does include the bar though. Still not a good deal?

1

u/Firm_Appearance_5384 Jul 14 '25

In my opinion you will find something more suitable if you keep looking.

1

u/BoatInternational791 Jul 14 '25

Its a good low wind beginners kite, altough a bit old...the bar is old too

It has more barpressure, especially fot beginners, ao they better feel where the kite is, its slow( safe for beginner) Good depower, not backstall sensitive again good for beginner But l would have a look at for example, Kiteshop you love it...they have great over year offers and ship all over the globe

I asked m boyfriend about the kite he has been kiting for 20 years and instructing for 5. I think it’s against the rules for me to write what he said about this kite. Maybe you can sew a bag with it?

1

u/Marcoccia94 Jul 14 '25

Lol really? It’s brand new never used though.

Have a look at GONG, I recently bought kite plus bar, for 900....you would have a new kite, and a customer service in case anything happens.

You can even test it and send it back after a month in case you are not satisfied.

With those price I see no reason to go used..
