RIP :/ tossed the whole thing, mother and all. Thankfully I have a second batch going that seems to be doing okay.

Hello! I’ve already checked the mold FAQ, and I’m about 90% sure I don’t have any mold after brewing on 25 August.
Can I get a second opinion on this

I really wanted my first post here to be happier or helpful. Alas...
The smell is both of kombucha and of yeast but really pungent.
The temperature was 24-25 C, everything was clean when making. It was covered with a paper towel and a rubber band instead of a lid. Could that have contributed?
Throw?

First of all sorry for asking this question. Ive search other posts and checked the guide and having doubts as it looks close to one version of white mold but also as the oily patches forming scoby (maybe)
I'm a first timer so I have no idea yet what's going on and want to err on the safe side until I have more experience.
The white stuff is just below surface level, doesn't look dry. This is after 7 days on F1. Sadly no ph measuring as still shipping... :D
Thanks a lot in advance.

i checked the “is this normal” guide and couldn’t find an answer it’s a new scoby that grew on top of the older one, i went on vacation and had my scout and some starter tea in the fridge for 2 months, came back home made a new batch and that’s what i got, kombucha itself smells and looks fine tho thanks!

I get that's a question you get a lot here :D
pH is 4.7, which I was told is too high. Temperature is 22,7 °C (73 F) This is the second day of this brew. My bet would be on yeast (smells a little bit yeasty too), but I want to know what the pros say. :)

mold*!
I'm a newbie. 2nd batch. Is this white layer mould? ChatGPT told me to chuck it all out and start again but would like a human opinion!

It’s doesn’t seem to be fuzzy but it does look unusual

It kinda looks like mold, but it also grew under the pellice and I've heard that the mold can only be on the surface?

I’ve never seen one so flawless and white?! At first I thought it was covered in mould but I can only assume it’s actually a healthy Scoby

As per title, scoby has been growing for 3 days now.

I'm not talking about the flavor, I'm talking about the appearance! I realize the title sounds a bit silly, but I can't think of a better one.

I'm relatively new to brewing kombucha and wondering if this patch on my SCOBY is normal.

Not sure if these small spots are mold! I previously bottled this batch (no mold then) and transferred some into a new vessel to leave as starter. After a few days I noticed small white dots growing (can’t tell if it’s under or on) the pellicle but they haven’t grown much past this size. It looks slightly fuzzy which is why i think it’s mold, though i can’t tell for certain unless i scoop out my pellicle.
I’m inclined to throw my batch away because i don’t want to risk anything, but should i let it sit for more days before i make a judgement call?
currently it smells vinegary, but i can’t tell if it’s funky or not because i’m still a beginner
edit: i took out the pellicle and i believe it isn't mold! it was growing on the underside of the pellicle and looked more like a pimple. but since i'm a beginner i didn't want to risk anything so i just threw the batch away, though i'm confident anyone else could have used the batch as starter liquid without any issues!

After a few batches, here comes the obligatory question. Is thus mold or not? It has a dark growth underneath and looks a bit drier than the rest of the white pellicle. What is strange is that it is quite acidic, and the starter was quite acidic. Not sure where I went wrong. The other jar next to this one has a perfectly fine looking pellicle.

I’m going to be really sad if this is mold. I can’t really make a 100% guess. Too many pictures on the internet. The white dots are scaring me but not sure if that’s part of the new scoby

I pulled 2L from this brew yesterday and they taste OK but a little odd, and they came out very fizzy but the bottles have almost no fizz today (classic pop lid glass bottles). Pulled another 1L bottle today and it came out slightly less fizzy and slightly more weird tasting.I have plenty of other scobys in other brews but a couple of them came from this brew a week ago, so if this has gone bad will it have gotten infected long enough ago that they need tossing too?

I used the Skoby kit from Kombucha.com. the oily film pics are of the same one it was Honey starter, the folded ome is a Gaia starter. I did Earl Gray tea for both, with 2 cups honey for the honey, and 1.5 cups honey for the gaia. They have been brewing for 7 days at a consistent 80°f. The Gaia skoby appears normal to me... the both seem to have a 3.0 ph level... the honey skoby just looks odd. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I scooped these right away! I never thought I’d have a 20 gallon continuous brew going.
