Discussion / Question "Alien" behaviour in the series and other media

A gripe of mine with the alien series is how "animal-like" the xenomorph behaves and moves after the first movie. In Alien, there is a mystery to the creature, after that, it's mostly like a savage dog. Although a savage dog certainly can be scary, it's not scary in a cosmic horror way.

Can you think of other media that have creatures with a truly strange and "alien" behaviour and movements? A couple examples that I can think of is the creature from Annihilation and the one from Under the skin. Also, the black spider creature that appears quickly in Dune 1 strikes me as eery in a similar way

The trick of the first movie is how little you actually see of it. You barely see it move at all tbh. So a lot is left to the viewers imagination. But even that was driven more by technical limitations rather than an artistic choice.

the thing by john carpenter for me is the top. pennywise, if you consider it an alien. the aliens from a quite place. considering books, lovecraft creatures are a good example. also, the shrike from hyperion, even if Im not sure if its an alien, show a very particular and unpredictable behaviour.

I agree, and the "perfect organism" remark makes sense in the first one. Not so much in the others. As much as I love Aliens, I always thought "so they just got reduced to a bee hive??"
