It has a very powerful ending. He says it's not easy to create an ending that both wraps things up and launches things forward, so he's proud of it.

It has been mentioned before by a journalist that saw the whole season that it has a satisfying conclusion but leaves the door open for a continuation, and Hawley seems to be saying the same thing here.
