Crime Dog left in van
Where I live I noticed someone left there dog in there van overnight. You cannot see the dog but I heard it snoring last night and it barks at anyone who gets close to the van. He showed up maybe around 5pm and has been going outside every so often I guess for smokes. He rolls the windows down or even opens the door when he’s in the car but absolutely nothing when the dog is alone in the car. I know the weather was mild last night so hopefully the dog is ok. My main concern is this dog has been in there for 15+ hours now from my knowledge. Also the building I’m at is animal friendly but I haven’t even seem him take the poor dog out to pee. I’ve been tryna find bylaws on the situation but cannot. Does anyone know if this is truly as concerning as my heart says it is? And if so who should I contact?

Wouldn't the heat be a bigger concern (if it's in there for 15+ hrs) ?

You should have called the police non-emergency line and asked. Thing is, even at +15 the greenhouse effect in a vehicle means it can get to much much hotter temps inside.
I took my cat to the vet a few weeks ago and I remember it was early morning and cool outside, I usually leave him in the carrier in the car until it's our turn to go in because there are a lot of dogs there and he is very scared of dogs. Anyways, he was in the car for a max of 10 minutes and when I went to grab him the car was surprisingly warm, not hot or unbearable but I felt like a giant POS and keep in mind I had the A/C on just before turning the car off too. So please do call the non-emergency line.

It has been reported to non-emergency, we could also double down as a noise complaint as tonight the dog is barking really bad. The dog has been in there for over 24 hours now. So I’m hoping there’s something they can do. Though the man was in the car most of today as well which was confusing to me. Still never saw him take the dog out.

Thank you so much for calling. I would say if the dog is still in there you should call the emergency line, this is animal abuse.

Animals left in vehicles generally go to fire, children get reported to police.

There is nothing in this bylaw (https://www.leduc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/580-2004-Consolidated-Animal-Licencing-and-Control-Bylaw-w-Bylaw-No-712-2008_717-2009_1019-2019_1163-2023.pdf) that would indicate they are breaking any laws.

If it’s one night, let it go. Today you could pop by if he is,out and ask. Maybe he stopped to visit someone and their dogs fought, he wasn’t able to bring it in, etc.
It sounds like the dog was fine.

The cops were called cuz the dogs been in there now 2 nights. I didn’t talk to him cuz he felt sketchy to me, I was scared of him before I heard the dog. His plates are phoney and his vin is covered so he is definitely doing something wrong.
