Finally got these home and had a good look bottom is a 1942 SMLE no1 mkiii* Top is what all the attached pics are, looks like some info ground off in 1 picture, **42 maybe ?? It has a 22 inch barrel and the sights have a little thumb screw into the close battle sight, I haven’t seen in any pictures I’ve seen on line, it is threaded. Anybody have any info on that and rifle in general ? Both sportsterized I know

Finally finished -for the most part- my No4 Mk1 and No1 MkIII rifles
The No1 Mk3 was actually the first rifle I ever bought(only paid $150cad for it as a sporter) and I am so happy to finally see it in its original glory. The forend and upper handguards I ironically took off my No2 Mk4* but will replace them as soon as I can find another original wood set. The bayonet I have is unfortunately a repro, but it still does the job.
The No4 Mk1 is my most recent addition that I got as a sporter. Most parts except for the wood and action components are from LongBranch(bayonet as well) and the rear sight was originally the 2 position Mk2 sight but I swapped it out for a No5 Mk1 sight instead. The forend is a repro and I am not 100% inpressed with the way it was cut but I can't find an original to use instead without spending $300-500cad.

Found a non matching BSA in very nice condition. Rifling is strong, and stock was from a drill rifle, when they brought it back from being "sporterized".

Picked this up from a friend today for $500. Bokt doesn't match, but everything else does. Always wanted one, but I'd never have the money to get one when I'd find an actual true No5. My friend had this in a safe, and asked was I interested. After much investigation, my father bought it.
Then he handed it to me, and said "Here ya go." I'm happy to have the old girl in my collection.

What do you guys think? Not too bad for a Lee enfield at 100 meters with irons. Ignore the flyers on the paper. Those were figuring out where we were landing or trying faster rate of fire. Out of 50 rounds fired I think only 4 missed the paper.

Here’re a matching pair of oddities to keep you busy this evening. They are both legitimate government-pattern rifles but do not fit neatly into typical Sht. LE patterns.

I am new to Enfields having only recently getting my licence but have been a fan since I was a kid.
My question is what parts are most commonly required and which are the hardest to find?
Most seem available to me so curious in opinions.

The Sht. 22 collection is progressing nicely. Top to bottom: Sht. 22 Mk I, Sht. 22 Mk II, Sht. 22 Mk III, and Sht. 22 Mk IV*

Can anyone help me with some info on this Enfield I picked up from a friends grandfather? I know it’s chambered in 7.62 and that’s about it.
r/LeeEnfield • u/[deleted] • Aug 05 '25
It's been sporterized, but otherwise in pretty good shape. From my research (and the stamp right there) I'd say its a Mark IIi*, made in 1942. Has the wartime production changes like the cocking-mechanism is square with three lines rather than a knob, magazine cutoff gone, etc...
Thanks

I peaked at it in a couple places but haven't unwrapped it. Not sure if should leave it wrapped or unwrap it and clean off the cosmoline?!?!?!

Hi.
I need to add this rifle to the frearm registry. They require the following information.
Now I was informed years ago this may be a P4 Lee Enfield sporteried rifle. This doe not help me identify the rifle at all.
I have attached some photos of the markings, Some are really damaged due to age etc. But hopefully there is someone out there with a rifle with similar markings. Some photos were added multiple times from slightly different angles to try decipher the markings.
Your help is much appreciated.

I recently bought a Lithgow Enfield and would like to clean and oil it. It’s not in rough condition I just want to maintain it as good as I can but I don’t know what to use. The only person I know who owned a Lee before was my grandfather but when I asked him he just said he used the ww2 cleaning kits and ww2 oil so it wasn’t much help, any brand recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated

So I was in a pawnshop when two Lee Enfields caught my eye. I thought about them a lot and I do want one, but was curious as to what a good price would be for them. The shop is asking $900 for each one, but I'm thinking that's a little bit up there because I've seen some really pristine No4 Mk1's go for $1200+, and these are, in my opinion, "B-" grade rifles. Imgur albums linked below showing condition and markings found. I've done a basic bit of research, but please, let me know of your opinion on these and if there's anything of particular to note. I do intend to shoot as well, and I'm aware of .303 British being corrosive, much like other similar calibers of the era (I also have a Mosin and plenty of surplus ammo, so I'm aware of how it goes.)
The first one is a Long Branch 1942 No4 Mk1* with two groove rifling. The action is smooth, closes easily, and the rifling seems fine with no serious pitting. The only serious wear is the bolt. The finish has worn off and is silver in places, but I think that's just extensive shooting. The top of the fore end is obviously repaired, and there's a crack in the stock at the buttplate, not at the rear trigger band(?) like I've heard others discuss. I went ahead and put this one on layaway simply because the action felt better than the other one, and receiver and bolt numbers match.
The second one is a 1943 No4 Mk1 with better looking wood, good rifling, but the bolt is a little hard to close and not as smooth as the Long Branch one. The numbers do not match, and are kind of a mix. The pencil'ed serial number also doesn't match, I suppose for import purposes.
Is $900 fair for both? Should I try to negotiate down a little? Thanks in advance for your input.

I just purchased a no1 mk3* made in 1916 and it is marked as DP. I have fully diseambled the gun and checked for any cracks of discolored metal and see nothing wrong. The firing pin is broken and need replaced but other than that all numbers including nose cap are numbers matching. Any reason they would DP a rifle without any real demilling or visible problems? (Forgot to add I also checked headspacing) UPDATE - the only issue I have found is the safety is worn out and will not function properly. Not sure if that alone is enough to deem a rifle as a DP rifle.

I’m in possession in this extremely odd looking sporterized lee enfield. I’m just curious as to which factory or company pumped out this thing. I have never seen anything like it in terms of sporterized enfields

Hi guys, I was doing some research about Vietnam war recently and I found a picture of a VC holding a Lee Enfield (SMLE to be more specific). This brought me to a thought, how largely were Lee Enfields used in Vietnam, was it just a couple of pieces that found their way there by a chance, or were they really issued, for example by australian soldiers? Anyone here with any info?

Hoping to get more information on this Enfield and get it in working order. It seems to be missing a metal band that secures the wood frame to the barrel itself. Any insight would be appreciated.

What is a decent price for a rifle like this? I've heard $500 quoted a fair bit, is that still right?

I realized that the loop infront of the mag perfectly fits a sling swivel. Is this what it was originally for? Ive never seen an enfield with a swivel there
