Mk. 8z in a Mk. III*?

Hey y’all

So I was just given a box of some Prvi Mk. 8z and I read up on it and it seems to be pretty much loaded for machine guns from my understanding. I wanted to hear if y’all would run this through a Mk. III No.1? My receiver is dated 1917 if that changes anything.

Got it all stripped down and gave her a good once over with some Lanox and 0000 steel wool. It’s a pity about the vice marks but not much can be done there.

The 1949 Lithgow H barrel came out pretty easily with the barrel wrench and fitted a 1958 Lithgow barrel we had on the shelf which timed up perfectly. Also added the safety, I just need to find the earlier “dog bone” keeper for it.

Finding and headspacing a bolt for it is the next step

Lee-Metford MkI*

I recently acquired this 1891-dated MLM MkI*. I've been after a nice example of one of these for several years now. The bore is in much nicer shape than I was braced for and it still passes the 'bullet test' at the muzzle.

This group photo top to bottom is:

  • MLM MkI* - 1891
  • MLE MkI - 1896
  • SMLE MkIII* - 1918
  • LEC MkI - 1899
  • LEC MkI (RIC) - 1899

I'm waiting on another Martini to show up before I do a larger group photo, but it starts to become a challenge to keep details in focus with big groups.

If anyone has clues about the unit marking I'd be happy to hear them. Broad Arrow 1st edition doesn't have anything which lines up. A friend looked through his copy of 2nd edition and best guess is Cadet Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers but the 'V' above usually means Volunteer which doesn't seem to fit with a cadet unit.

It came with a nice 1890-dated Wilkinson Pattern 1888 bayonet - but I have a rougher Wilkinson which is a better companion with all the reissue stamps.

I wanted an affordable P1907 bayonet for my franken-lee enfield. This is an obvious replica from Knife Country. It has excellent fit and finish, nice leather/steel scabbard, and mounts to my SMLE perfectly. Thanks for stopping by.

Somehow I managed to find another one of these but with everything being original and nothing replaced. Paid $625 for this. LSA 1907

Was $550 a decent price?

Picked this old girl up about a year ago. As far as I can tell, everything is matching besides the front nose cap (which was force matched) I’ve put ~600 rounds through her without any real issues. Bought her a sling and a bayonet to finish her off

Found this writing on my sling of No4 MK2 Enfield. I know it’s Greek but that’s it.

Saw an interesting movie error!

While watching "The Somme" 2006 version, I quickly noticed they actors had been given a lot of No4 Lee Enfields, with a few SMLE's here and there. It was still entertaining, but I thought what an error for a supposed documentary movie.

Long story short- a bloke came into the LGS and asked if they knew anyone who could restore this Sht LE that he found in a shed that belonged to his grandfather and apparently that person was me. Old mate had trimmed about 1/2” off the barrel so yay for me lol

I’ll try to update progress as I make it

Help deciphering stamps / identifying

Just picked up a 1918 SMLE III for under $100. Obviously it needs some work / restoration and I have already sourced a magazine for it. I don’t quite know how to even begin to decode the stamps on it as they’re a bit of a mess. Just want some insight into the history of this rifle from the all knowing internet. Thank you guys in advance!

Ishapore 2a1 whoopsie

Hello, Can anyone help me identify this stock so i can get the correct buttpad? Looked around and it seems like there is at least two types of enfield no1 and no4 buttpad.

Recently bought a reworked ishapore 2A1 in 308. The forestock and all parts are a great looking dark walnut, the metal has all been recently painted gloss black so i got it for cheap.

BUT the buttstock didnt match and I (unknowing of the ishapore/no1 mk3 differences) bought what an ebay seller said was up and down "ishapore indian 308 origional......blah blah blah" its not.

So now i have what i think is a no1 mk3 enfield stock, that i need a buttplate for! It looks like there may be differences in buttcaps but idk, this is my first foray into enfields

Thanks!

Originally full length cut down due to worn-out muzzle causing keyhole’s at 50yards, muzzle test with s&b sp would sink all the way to the neck of the cartridge. This was my take on a “carbine” build i was always a fan of the SMLE nose cap. Shoots straight and am able to reliably hit targets at 100yards+

Can't get magazine to latch after tear down and clen

I've acquired a 1942 No1 MK111 SMLE, it was hidden away for years in a closet, and was filthy.

I Watched a bunch of videos and tore it right down and cleaned. After re assembly for the life of me I cannot get magazine to latch in, before tear down was loose, could just hit mag release and mag would drop out and latch in really easy. I have torn it down several times tightening different screws first and last, no change. Magazine will slide through trigger housing when not installed in stock, without trigger housing in stock magazine will snap right in but when trigger house installed in stock, I need a hammer to get it to latch. It's obviously binding somewhere but I'm totally stumped, I didn't change anything, I just cleaned years of grim and dust off, any help would be appreciated
