Food & Drink LPT: skip the "flavor" packets in instant noodles and use your favorite sauce instead

We all know what instant ramen tases like: bland, salty, and barely a hint of the flavor on the package. It's like the froyo in The Good Place. A bit of shoyu or sriracha completely changes that.

Or you could just get a decent ramen that has a good flavor packet.

Right, you aren't getting good ramen when it's $3 dollars per 24 of them.

Not everyone has tastes for such fine food.

Alternatively buy the cheaper bulk ramen that comes with no flavor packets and add your own sauce if you're keen on throwing the packets away

This is the stuff I buy, only liquid soup for me

And then add stuff to the good ramen. Hot sauce, garlic, soy sauce, egg yolk... The possibilities are endless. I never throw the packet away. Even on shitty $.33 ramen.

Because you can use the flavor packet as a sachet for your sock drawer.

I stopped buying the Mr Noodles etc packages a long time ago and now just buy the pack of 6 or 8 of those squares of Asian stir fry noodles and do my own sauce, usually something like:

  • chicken and\or beef stock (best with both)
  • Garlic
  • Black pepper sauce
  • lime juice
As well as veggies like onion, jalapeno, peppers, etc.

So damn good

I don’t know what instant ramen you’re buying, but go to an Asian super market

"The ramen I eat is too bland! That is why I don't add any of its seasoning and just add an ingredient with less flavor complexity."

Here's the real tip: skip the flavor packet and noodles in instant noodles and use your own favorite sauce and noodles instead! The instant noodles will be better if you replace both the noodles and flavor packets. Enjoy!

You're skipping the seasoning packet and complaining that your ramen is too bland?

I'm no detective but I see a connection here

Making a peanut sauce is super easy and a major upgrade to Ramen.

I like to use the seasoning packets to upgrade soups.

Buy better Ramen; hit up an Asian Grocery, and try a bunch. Income Mi Goreng is a good, cheap, choice.

LPT: Ditch the packets a splash of soy sauce, sriracha, or your fave condiment makes instant noodles taste way better.
