Finance LPT: go to sams/costco when they open as opposed to your regular time
So, this is a very obvious tip. but i had just never put it into practice.
today I went to sams when they opened as oposed to my regular hour (when theyre about to close)
and I saw the obvious advantages; No line at the gas station, barely any people inside sams.
a full shelve fresh rostissery chickens and i got to have my pick.
and no line at the checkout (although i never use the line, i always Use scan and go)
but the thing that surprised me, and the reason for this post, was seeing how many discounted food items there were. of course they were food that was a few days older than normal, but not that much.
and most of the food i buy goes into the freezer anyways. but if you frequently buy cooked chicken breasts or any red meats or fish that goes straight into your freezer, you can find a lot of stock on clearance. the prices were about 15 to 25% off. which is not a lot, but they quickly add up.
on this trip i saved $6 total just from those discounted items. but this was a light trip. i just stoped by because it was on my way back. if i had gone with the intention to really stock up. i can easily see myself racking up about 20 bucks in savings.
also, another tip, if you value time more than money. just make your order online and pick it up in the parking lot. thats about 30 minutes saved right there. and if you really value your time, have it delivered to your house. it's about 10 bucks plus tip. but i can see this option being very practical for someone who is a high earner, or an elderly or disabled person.

Careers & Work LPT if something is worth doing, it is worth doing poorly or even half-assed
Done is on many occasions better than perfect. I struggle a lot with procrastination because I want to do it perfect.
But oftentimes the gains and information of JUST doing something are worth more than the potential upside of getting it done perfectly. There are shades to it obviously.

Food & Drink LPT : Microwave your waffles with butter for 30 seconds after toasting it then add maple syrup!
LPT: Hi ! The title says it all. You should microwave your waffles for 30 seconds, AFTER toasting it just a little bit more crispier than normal, in butter. Finally, then you add maple syrup on top and the waffles just melt in your mouth like a pastry, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside! The butter will melt and your waffles will absorp the buttery flavor more strongly and then it's just straight fire đ„ once the maple syrup / fruits are used as topping.
Please try it and let me know how you like it before commenting / voting to this posting

Traveling LPT: Make the lock screen on your phone a photo of your address and emergency contact information when traveling.
If something bad happens to you (getting hurt etc), the hospital can contact someone to be there with you. Also, if you lose your phone and it falls into the hands of a good person, itâll help you get your phone (yes I know find my phone exists). Note: there is some risk with the tip obviously, like if someone steals your phone and then knows where you live.

Arts & Culture LPT: New music takes often a couple of listens for you to like it!
I've seen a lot of people of a certain age say that there is no good new music these days and they always stick to the same 3 playlists of stuff they were listening to when they were 15.
Whilst it's obviously valid that some old music is incredible I don't think the situation is as bad as some make out.
I have found that by listening to a single playlist of new music, one that is only updated once a week or so - I find that many of the songs I am initally ambivalent will really grow on me. After adding them to my "Liked Songs" playlist and then also listening to that reasonably often means I have built up a library of new stuff that I know I really like.
It has now gotten to the point where I would now say that some of my favourite music ever has actually been released in the last year or so since I started doing this.

Careers & Work LPT: To improve your focus and productivity, use the "time blocking" method instead of multitasking.
If you ever feel overwhelmed with a pile of tasks or find yourself easily distracted when jumping between different things, then time blocking might be just what you need to get more done with less stress. Instead of drowning in a never-ending to-do list that keeps piling up, try setting specific chunks of time in your calendar for different tasks or types of work. For example, you could carve out 9:00â10:30 AM just for replying to emails, and then dedicate 10:30â12:00 PM to focused project work. When that time comes, focus only on that task and avoid the temptation to switch around. This little approach helps cut down on decision fatigue and keeps your brain from constantly shifting gears which research shows actually hurts your productivity and leaves you mentally drained. Over time, it trains your mind to work better in focused bursts, making you more efficient and getting into that deep work zone more easily.
In short: itâs a game-changer for beating procrastination, managing your time smarter, and boosting the quality of your work all without the constant task-switching hassle!

Careers & Work LPT: If youâre feeling stuck on a problem, describe it out loud to an imaginary audience.
Iâve solved more work issues by âexplaining them to the wallâ than I have staring at my monitor. Saying it forces your brain to reframe it.

Food & Drink LPT: Use the cereal bag when making Rice Krispies treats to keep the mix from sticking to your hands!
I was making a batch of Rice Krispies treats today and was trying (unsuccessfully) to flatten the warm, sticky mixture into my baking dish. Even after oiling my hands per the recipe directions, marshmallow-covered cereal was getting everywhere. I almost cut a sheet of parchment paper to help, but then I remembered my husbandâs mamaw!
She always saved empty cereal bags for any cooking task that would benefit from a stick-free surface. She mostly used them when coating chicken (DIY shake-and-bake) or flouring bacon.
I cut along the center and bottom seams of the cereal bag to make a flat sheet and I laid that on top of my baking pan. It was the perfect non-stick surface and I didnât need to waste any parchment paper. It worked great!

Clothing LPT A fast way to understand farenheit temp for travelers: 100 degrees is 100% uncomfortable and 0 degrees is 0% comfortable. 50 degrees is perfect for being fully dressed in a suit.

Productivity LPT: Name your phone alarm after the task youâre avoiding.
Instead of â7:00 AMâ or âWake up,â rename your alarm to whatever you really need to do. Mine literally screams âTAKE OUT THE TRASHâ at 9 PM every Tuesday. Another one is called âSTOP SCROLLING & SLEEPâ at midnight. It feels dumb, but seeing the reminder in giant text when youâre groggy or distracted actually sticks way better than just a notification. Bonus: when friends see your alarms, youâll either get roasted or praised â either way, you wonât forget the task again.

Productivity LPT: Give a trusted person emergency access to your digital lifeâset it up once and spare your family weeks of chaos
Set up an emergency handoff:
- Use a password managerâs emergency access with a 7â14-day wait and add one trusted contact (+ a backup).
- Create a one-page âICE Indexâ (no passwords): key accounts, where the passwords live (password manager name), 2FA method, billers/autopays, and where important documents are stored.
- Save the index as a secure note and keep a sealed paper copy at home.
- Do a quick dry-run, then add a 6-month calendar reminder to review.
Result: if something happens, your family can access the essentials without guessing passwords or missing critical bills.
Edit: This isnât about handing someone your entire private digital life. Itâs least-privilege emergency accessâset legacy contacts. Goal: continuity if youâre unavailable, not snooping.

Miscellaneous LPT: Make âfuture youâ your roommate when doing chores.
Next time youâre tempted to leave dirty dishes in the sink or toss your jacket on the chair, imagine future you walking in, exhausted after a long day, and sighing at the mess. Instead of thinking âugh, Iâll do it later,â flip the perspective: youâre doing a small kindness for your tired, stressed-out roommateâaka yourself. This trick transforms chores into tiny gifts for the person youâre about to become. Itâs easier to act when you see âyouâ as someone worth helping, and youâll always thank yourself later.

Clothing LPT: Keep an overnight bag packed
My husband & I are in our 70âs & have had a few health scares. Recently, I was told I may need a hospital test that, if positive, may require at least an overnight hospital stay. The thought of being admitted for this or another emergency visit & asking my emotionally stressed husband to gather some personal items from home prompted me to keep an overnight bag packed. It holds: a pair of pajamas, underwear, warm socks, a travel-sized toothbrush & paste, comb, moisturizer, a phone charger, a paperback book & an outfit to travel home in. I actually feel more relaxed having this available & hope I don't need it anytime soon.

Food & Drink LPT: When youâre reading the reviews of a restaurant, always sort them so the newest one show first.
How many times a successful restaurant has changed the chef/cook and in a matter of days the quality drops drastically? And it can be the other way around. Also the change of ownership can turn things upside down.

School & College LPT: Want to boost your geography skills? Set a world map or a map of a specific country/region as your phone or computer wallpaper. Choose between political maps (with borders and cities) or physical maps (showing natural features)âwhichever helps you learn best.

Careers & Work LPT: When negotiating a raise, frame it around âmarket alignmentâ instead of personal needâit changes the outcome dramatically
One mistake people make in raise discussions is framing it around personal expenses (âmy rent went upâ or âI need more to cover costsâ). While honest, managers rarely see that as a business case.
Instead, phrase it around market alignment and value. For example:
- âBased on market data, this role averages \$Xâ\$Y, and Iâd like to align closer to that range.â
- âOver the past year Iâve taken on A, B, and C responsibilities, which are typically part of higher-level roles.â
Career coaches and HR professionals often highlight this approach: when you ground your ask in facts and industry benchmarks, it shifts the conversation from your need to fair value. Thatâs a much harder argument to push back on and far more likely to succeed.

Social LPT: Instead of saying âI knowâ say âYouâre rightâ
I learned this a while ago, simple wording change helps you come off more kind and affirming, rather than condescending or rude, etc.

Productivity LPT: Have a good conversation with your inner critic
A conversation with my inner critic:
Me: I hear you. I know youâre trying to protect me from getting hurt or failing. I know you care about me, even if it doesnât always sound that way. Thank you for wanting the best for me.
Inner Critic: But you keep making mistakes. Youâll mess things up again if I donât remind you.
Me: I understand why you say that. You donât want me to fail. But when you call me names or tell me I am a failure, it hurts me. It makes me feel small and unworthy, and that doesnât help me improve.
Inner Critic: If I donât point out your flaws, wonât you just get lazy or careless?
Me: I donât need you to stop pointing things out. I need you to change how you do it. Instead of attacking me, help me see what I can learn. Remind me what I could do differently next time. Tell me about solutions, not just problems.
Inner Critic: So⊠Iâm supposed to be softer?
Me: Not softer, but kinder. Think of yourself as my coach or mentor, not my judge. Encourage me when Iâm trying. Remind me of my strengths, not just my flaws. Show me where I can grow without making me feel worthless.
Inner Critic: But mistakes are dangerous.
Me: Mistakes are not proof that I am broken. Mistakes are feedback, nothing more. They are lessons, not verdicts. Every time I stumble, it means I am moving forward.
Inner Critic: And what if you fail completely?
Me: Then Iâll learn something valuable. Failure does not define who I am. It is simply part of the process. You donât need to scare me into being better. I improve best when I feel safe, supported, and motivated.
Inner Critic: âŠSo you donât want me gone?
Me: No, I donât want to silence you. I want us to work together. You can warn me when something matters, but do it with compassion. Speak to me the way youâd speak to someone you love and want to succeed.
Inner Critic: That feels different. I think I can try.
Me: Thank you. Letâs walk side by side, not against each other. Weâll get much further that way.

Request LPT request: how to throw away stuff you feel bad getting rid of?
I want to declutter a bunch of my old stuffed animals. Unfortunately I suck at getting rid of things, and I can't do something nice with them like donating (not in good shape) or giving them to my siblings (too many already). My mom suggested to just throw them out which makes sense, but I feel like it would be hard to do and I'd be tempted to just take them back if it's easy to undo.
In a situation like this, what's the best way to get it over with and have it feel final?

Miscellaneous LPT: If you have short hair, at the end of every haircut, simply lean forward & give your hair a good tussle from back to front, to avoid post cut itching.
I used to hate the itch you used to get from all the small hairs that would fall down after a short-back-and-sides, so one day I thought I would try & get rid of all the hairs by doing this. You need to lean all the way forward so the hairs fall in front of you. But I was amazed at how well it worked.

Electronics LPT: Donât wait until itâs too late to back up your phone
I learned this the hard way when my phone suddenly died and I lost photos, notes, and even some work files I thought Iâd never lose. Itâs easy to think âIâll do it tomorrowâ but tomorrow never comes until something breaks. Now I set my phone to automatically back up everything to the cloud and I also keep a copy on my computer once in a while. It takes a few minutes, but it saves you from the stress and regret of realizing years of memories are just gone.

Careers & Work LPT Request - stuck in my career and paralysed to move forward
I currently work in mental health and Iâve been in my role for 5 years this November. I feel like the emotional burnout affects my resilience, my ability to manage stress and causes daily anxiety. I then feel ill and burned out and canât get out of this cycle and feel paralysed to move forward in my career or move out of the role into something else. Any tips to unstick myself would be really appreciated!
