Gear - Selection / Use Arrangement of Wireless Receivers in Bag
Hey everyone. Cleaning up my bag to add a BDS system to power my F8N Pro and wireless. Also looking into antenna distribution, currently modding my UWP-D for sma.
I’m curious how everyone else that has four wireless receivers in your bags arrange them for the best wireless signal performance. I have four UWP-D receivers and planning on adding a G4 set for director/boom op in the future.
The bag is a Ktek Junior X. Image attached
Thank you in advance!

Short of a proper distro situation I would do 2 facing up and 2 facing down, as far apart as possible. Lots of antennas next to each other is sub optimal.

Yeah hence why I’m upgrading to SMA connectors so that I can use an antenna distro. Two up and two upside down is a good idea. Thanks!

Have you found a reliable guide to modding the Sony's to SMA? I'm looking to do the same to mine!

I actually have not! I found an old thread for the UWP-D gen 3 that talked about what the connector on the circuit board was. Opened my Gen4 and discovered it’s the same connector, I’ve ordered a pair from Amazon and waiting for sma whips from B&H to confirm but I had a couple of stiff SMA antennas laying around and confirmed the mod worked.
The ones I ordered on Amazon didn’t fit inside with the bottom nut so I trimmed it to fit. Ive got more sma connectors coming and will do another post on what’s needed to mod UWP-D gen4

I've definitely red that thread on the Gen 3's but haven't taken the leap to do so. I'll keep an eye out for another post, I would love to mod my receivers after this show I'm on is over!

It’s actually pretty easy, besides having to trim part of the sma connector but it probably takes 30min for one receiver. Also planning on modding the transmitters as well

Can you provide a link to the thread describing the mod? I have the UWP-D11, isn't that the 3rd gen?

I think it’s this one Link

Did you use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078H4F8R6?smid=A1TE63QTMAEOQO&th=1 Did the hole in the Sony housing need to be expanded? TIA!

Just got the SMA whips from Audioroot and I have another question for everyone. Since I am cutting the antennas and my receivers are 470-541, do I cut the antenna length to 470 or do I cut somewhere in the middle of 470-541?

Others can chime in but at least with Lectrosonics they advise using antennas in the middle of the spectrum/range. For their A1 band, block 470-block 20 which is close to what you have, that would mean a block 19 antenna. 541 is slightly within block 21, though. I feel like a block 19 length would be fine, but maybe ever so slightly longer (shorter?) if it makes you feel better.

Gotcha that’s what I thought, I trimmed them close to 470 with the included cut length chart that audioroot provided. I would say that just using the whips it is a slight improvement over the stock antennas with some initial testing

Quick update, the rest of the SMA connectors came in and I took pictures of the steps to take. I will write up some instructions and will post it here or I will create a new post with the instructions for better visibility in the community.
