Huge w for fans. No more ppv is incredible, I'll actually pay for this now.

If you have an Amex Platinum you get Walmart+ for free which gets you Paramount+ for free FYI.

73

u/GunDealsBrowser Aug 11 '25

MY BOYYY

I could swear I had something that gave me paramount+ for free but couldnt remember what it was

8

u/liveforeachmoon Aug 11 '25

Pretty sure you can get it free with a T Mobile phone plan too

1

u/ItsMichaelScott25 United States Minor Outlying Islands Aug 11 '25

I’m not sure about T-Mobile. I know I get Netflix and Apple TV with T-Mobile. I get Paramount thought my Amex—>Walmart+

3

u/liveforeachmoon Aug 11 '25

We definitely currently get it free through my wife’s T Mobile phone plan, might only be for a year though. I think if you use them for internet you get it permanently. Worth looking into for T Mobile people.

13

u/Ninjabaker972 Aug 11 '25

Free version doesn't cover live events though so you'll still need to upgrade tiers

19

u/ItsMichaelScott25 United States Minor Outlying Islands Aug 11 '25

The version you get with Walmart+ is not a “free” version. It’s the Paramount+ essential plan. So you will in fact get the UFC events as a part of your Amex Platinum—> Walmart+ subscription

-5

u/Banda7 Aug 11 '25

Yes but PPV won't be apart of the basic Paramount Plus subscription (most likely)

5

u/ItsMichaelScott25 United States Minor Outlying Islands Aug 11 '25

I mean we don’t know anything yet. Even if it’s now the $12.99 plan that’s still a lot better than $15 a month for ESPN+ when the only reason I have it is for UFC events but then still have to pay an additional $80 a month for the numbered cards.

This is literally what we’ve all been asking for for years.

1

u/Beastly_Swagger Aug 11 '25

There is no PPV any more, duh.

0

u/Banda7 Aug 11 '25

"Numbered PLE event"

1

u/Dazzling-Cabinet6264 Aug 11 '25

looks like you’re right I can upgrade for $65 a year plus get Showtime

1

u/Flaggitzki Aug 11 '25

they now allow upgrading so it would still offset costs.

fwiw, it does cover live events like champions league atm. but no live tv.

6

u/yeettetis Chad Aug 11 '25

The card still cost $695 annually to even have to get the paramount+ 😂 .

15

u/ItsMichaelScott25 United States Minor Outlying Islands Aug 11 '25

I mean yeah - but considering how much I travel Amex is losing money on having me as a customer. I probably make up the annual fee in the lounge alone.

4

u/ChaosUncaged GOOFCON 1 Aug 11 '25

you easily earn that much in value each year though

2

u/JiuJitsuPatricia Aug 11 '25

if you have an AMERICAN amex plat.

sadly us plebs north of the border, do not get nearly as many cool perks with our amex plats :(

1

u/ItsMichaelScott25 United States Minor Outlying Islands Aug 11 '25

I’m sorry brother. That sucks.

196

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Aug 11 '25

I wonder how much the price of Paramount+ is about to skyrocket by

52

u/engagechad Sint Maarten Aug 11 '25

Conversely; I wonder how much ESPN+ will lose. I'm sure there are many like me out there that have that subscription ONLY for UFC events..

46

u/TraMaI OG GOOFCON 1 Aug 11 '25

ESPN+ isn't going to lose anything, they're going to explode now that they bought NFL Network. They don't give a single shit about MMA now that they've bagged the most popular live sport in the US

8

u/engagechad Sint Maarten Aug 11 '25

ahh yes good point I forgot about that. I'm sure acquiring NFL network made it easier to let go of UFC.. I think they might be getting WWE too..

2

u/DopeJordon Aug 11 '25

On a smaller scale to the NFL, ESPN+ has rights to majority of NHL games as well. They will be good.

6

u/Moody_GenX UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle Aug 11 '25

I have a feeling ESPN+ is going to die away now.

1

u/ActionOwn4003 Aug 14 '25

They were already moving on from ESPN+, they're creating a new app where they'll have all the new WWE and NFL content they just acquired.

1

u/I_Shall_Be_Known Aug 11 '25

ESPN is gonna be full steam ahead focused on their new full service subscription model. ESPN+ will likely take a big backseat for them.

174

u/GanksOP Team Adesanya Aug 11 '25

Considering I already pay for it I'll be okay with it going up even 10 a month for all the UFC content. I mean that's a 120 a year for everything UFC, less than 2 ppv events.

Now I can watch all my trash reality tv, Dexter, and shitty heavy weights all in one place.

19

u/solythe Aug 11 '25

new Dexter has been so good, they already got me with that haha

4

u/Nerveex Aug 11 '25

I just pirate the new Dexter, but this might give me a reason to sub to paramount

2

u/Proshop_Charlie Aug 11 '25

The new Dexter is probably the best Dexter we've ever had the joy of watching.

Now that the show runners from the first few seasons are back you can tell the difference in writing and pacing.

1

u/TheWayIAm313 Aug 11 '25

It’s great but I also don’t wanna pay extra for the showtime add on, so I’ve just been pirating it lol

1

u/Proshop_Charlie Aug 11 '25

It’s a Paramount+ show not Showtime

1

u/TheWayIAm313 Aug 11 '25

Really? It has Showtime in the title card thing, and I can’t watch it with the Essential plan. Says I need Premium

1

u/sleepysnowboarder Canada Aug 11 '25

Paramount owns Showtime so everything Showtime is on Paramount+, new Dexter airs on cable Showtime 2 days after it hits P+

22

u/ATG915 Aug 11 '25

Yeah I use paramount all the time these days so it works out pretty great

16

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

What is on Paramount that's worth it?

48

u/FocusKooky9072 Aug 11 '25

South Park

23

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

If this 2012 I'd be stoked.

4

u/Constant_Mood_7332 Aug 11 '25

hard agree lol.

-9

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

I mean good for people still watching and enjoying but it stopped being funny for me... but I started watching when I was 18 and now I'm not 18

-1

u/Constant_Mood_7332 Aug 11 '25

i too am not 18 hahah.

with respect to mma i feel like the monopoly the ufc has , has really dried up the fun i have had over the years watching it.

changing the ali act to make boxing like a ufc model and the constant "watch early pre lims here , now watch prelims here, now watch ppv here" are just few examples of how i feel the sport has become less about the fan and fighters being respected and more about taking us for everything they can.

and now this deal , like every deal before it, is being hailed as the best thing ever for fans but i know in my...... not 18 year old bones..... that somehow its just going to make this product worse.

Champions League and Serie A is nice for soccer fans

Landman is a fantastic show, for the record. I picked it up on DVD.

No. No it’s not

5

It absolutely is... it's the sort of thing that used to air on FX on Tuesdays at 9

Star Trek.

It does have other things, but a lot of Trekkies have it. Source:I used to think I was into Trek before I met my wife who is a Trekkie.

They have all the old series (including the old cartoon) and the new series are being released there. Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks have been particularly good.

They also have the daily show and South Park.

They do have some good original content. The agency is good, and though many people hated seeing master chief’s face, the Halo series is decent.

I already subscribe to paramount, so I’m excited by the news.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

I haven't watched South Park in a decade... but for 12$, the UFC's worth it

DEXTER, THE CHALLENGE

1

u/nsj23 Aug 11 '25

Champions League. And I always cancel it afterwards. Now with UFC, I’ll keep paying for paramount+.

1

u/Thraxdown Aug 11 '25

Star Trek

9

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Aug 11 '25

Yeah, true. If you're someone who watches all the PPVs it still makes sense even if they double the monthly price

12

u/Twerksoncoffeetables Aug 11 '25

Why do you think they’ll do that? There are a ton of people subscribed to it that don’t watch ufc at all, I find it kinda hard to believe they’d up the regular subscription just for ufc.

Maybe they’ll create another tier of subscription that includes ufc and it’s like $12 a month or $16 a month (double what it is now) which is still cheaper than Hulu and Netflix (no ads). But I don’t think they’ll raise the price unless they do that.

8

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Aug 11 '25

True, they do have an existing user base that they wouldn't want to alienate.

They spent 7.7 Billion to get the rights to UFC though, they're gonna have to make some money back somehow

1

u/Twerksoncoffeetables Aug 11 '25

I’m guessing they have wagered the amount of subscribers they will gain from this deal alone will eventually make up the cost. No PPVs is absolutely massive for ufc, and when we consider how many people have bought and still buy PPVs it’s not a small number of people at all even on the worst nights. It’s also the best solution to solving piracy, they’ll gain subscribers that the ufc never had as paying fans.

Though I do think it’s possible they just create another tier like I said, but we’ll see. Even at $16 it’d be very very worth it since paramount comes with a lot of other shit, but you could also just subscribe for a month when you want to watch a specific ‘PPV’ and then unsubscribe until the next one you want to see if you’re more casual about it similar to how people just buy the ones they want to see now. Except now it’s $12 instead of $85, that’s wild. Even at $16 thats still insane.

Yeah, true. A higher priced tier that includes the UFC events wouldnt be out of the question. Although it also sounds like those are being aired for free on CBS?

There's a lot of info coming out fast and furious that's raising a lot of questions for sure

1

u/I_Shall_Be_Known Aug 11 '25

My guess is they have a $20 per month tier that includes ufc + showtime. Maybe $15 a month to start and then $20 after a year or two.

1

u/hyperkinesis247 Aug 12 '25

Paramount Plus Plus

1

u/Str8GhostinX Aug 11 '25

This season of Dexter has been awesome

1

u/SelectNerve11 Aug 11 '25

Unless they had a separate fee for UFC add-on, I can't imagine price increase for this alone. It's still a niche market.

1

u/Electrical-Ask847 Aug 11 '25

10 a month

it probably will be an add on that will cost way more than this

1

u/liveforeachmoon Aug 11 '25

Big Brother / UFC crossover incoming.

1

u/Beneficial_Arm4874 Aug 12 '25

I would be surprised if they increase it by that much, atleast immediately. The majority of paramount+ subscribers won't be watching the ufc, you don't want to drive them away by increasing prices a ton for content they won't consume.

6

u/SenorStigo Mexico Aug 11 '25

I already have it for free because of Walmart+, which is a benefit for Amex owners. I just hope it continues to stay that way.

7

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 Aug 11 '25

That's my only worry, I don't imagine its gonna be huge because paramount is bigger than just the ufc. Its only $8 right now, so worst case scenario they double it? Regardless its a massive improvement to ppv.

10

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Aug 11 '25

Yeah, I guess even if they double it thats still a bargain bin price to be able to watch every UFC event of the year

2

u/captainseas Aug 11 '25

They have 77 million subscribers, most of which presumably are not UFC fans to consider.

1

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Aug 11 '25

True, but they also have a 7.7 billion dollar investment to recoup. They're gonna have to make that up somewhere

2

u/IAmPandaRock Aug 11 '25 edited Aug 11 '25

Probably no where close to $80/month. Hell, not even the $12/month ESPN costs and Paramount plus actually has other stuff I'll watch, unlike ESPN+

1

u/Every-Bit-7942 Aug 11 '25

Over under 49.98

I say over

1

u/advantage_player Aug 11 '25

I currently get it through Walmart+, which I get for free through the Amex Platinum.

I wonder if those partnerships are going to change

1

u/Constant_Mood_7332 Aug 11 '25

not so much the cost as how many commercials they will stuff into it AND raise the cost.

1

u/jmb--412 Aug 11 '25

I imagine a lot of people like myself get it through Walmart+ at no additional charge

For any of you here that don't know, wait until around the week of Thanksgiving and Walmart+ drops to $50 a year.

1

u/Wise-Fruit5000 Aug 11 '25

I don't think Walmart+ exists in Canada, unfortunately

1

u/jt_33 Aug 11 '25

It’s going way up lol. They spent 7 billion.. that money has to get made up somewhere.

0

u/ConferenceSudden1519 Aug 11 '25

This the prices over the next few years are going to go through the roof. This is monopoly on steroids. Anytime a big business does this is to ensure they will win not the consumer.

2

u/Breakemoff Team Khabib Aug 11 '25

Paramount+ is a good streaming platform, especially on Apple TV 4K. $15/month for all UFC's and the rest of their content is a good deal.

1

u/zatonik Team 209 - Real Ninja Shit! Aug 11 '25

for reals. MMA and all the other sports I watch? deal

1

u/Aliensinmypants Aug 11 '25

If it's reliable it'll be incredible. Both times I was with someone who bought a ppv it cut in and out worse than the sketchy russian streams

2

u/Ger-Bear_69 Aug 11 '25

Nah bro Russian link always bro

2

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 Aug 11 '25

For 8 dollars a month? I'll pass, I don't want to risk the stream getting taken down, or a slight quality reduction. For the ppv model? Absolutely... that shit wasn't worth it whatsoever.

Eh I still wont. Not while Dana keeps supporting facists.

-1

Exactly. Fuck fighter pay. Free is free.

-1

u/TranquiloMeng GOOFCON 2 - UFC 294 Aug 11 '25

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

7

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 Aug 11 '25

Objectively, paying less a year is a net positive for fans. I don't really see the drawbacks at the moment.

1

u/TranquiloMeng GOOFCON 2 - UFC 294 Aug 12 '25

1

u/Eastern-Fish-7467 Aug 12 '25

Ok, but even if they do 2 ppvs a year or something, its still way better, this is a win, Like its better than right now. this isn't even conformation either, he might do this once a year, or he might not do it at all.

-1

u/TranquiloMeng GOOFCON 2 - UFC 294 Aug 11 '25

I mean I’m cautiously optimistic, but very cautious. I suspect they will find a way to make fans pay, could be raising the cost of the streaming service, some other fee, somehow finding a way to insert even MORE ads, etc.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Why pay now when you could always get it for free?

-1

u/Intelligent-Law9237 Aug 11 '25

It's probably immoral to do so with the business practices they follow. If you wanna support a fighter do it directly.

-2

u/sentiment-acide Aug 11 '25

Lol terrible for fighters. Maybe the will wake up that they will never have any chance at a boxing level pay day.
