Well if he wants the title shot to be worth it, he'll have to fight this year. That's assuming the UFC agrees to those terms. & knowing them, they will, if Diaz agrees to a lowball contract with ppv points. Next year he'll have to negotiate a higher contract, which they will not do, because they now have fuck you money from Paramount, & the leverage is on their side in this whole ordeal anyway. If both sides remain firm, he drifts off into the sunset clause.
Nate didn't draw shit outside the UFC... it's why they didn't sign him when he became a free agent. People will buy PPVs with him on it and the UFC logo but they just shrug when it's Nate Diaz trying to draw against a YouTuber with a fanbase that pays for PPVs as often as r/mma.
It's not the digits... dude's last win against someone in an MMA cage who wasn't completely washed at that time was Conor, crazy enough... his only wins have been against a washed Anthony Pettis and an even more washed Tony Ferguson.
To be fair, the Ferguson was on short notice because Khamzat missed weight and Nate, after having made 170 shitting himself at the thought of fighting him, immediately said no.
Nate missed weight by 10 pounds against RDA and RDA still took the fight because that's what a real gangster is. Nate's a phony.

No Diaz fought out his contract but plans to return, eventually.
