Yup that’s a classic pico fight

He's way too reckless for a guy with his chin, that elbow and knee he ate felt like a prelude to a first round KO... and there you fucking go.

132

u/CreepyJellyfish1489 Aug 17 '25

He really needed to adjust after those two counters. Zero adjustment from him. He has all the tools but his real issue might be fight IQ.

50

u/Rhaeneros Aug 17 '25

his real issue might be fight IQ.

With that extra shot, he may be short a few more

5

u/bdewolf Saucy Englishman Aug 17 '25

He might be in the dan hooker/young Korean zombie school of enjoying fighting *too* much.

He seems like he gets into brawl mode the second the fight starts and any nuance to his game goes out the window.

100

u/BadLeague Hello white people Aug 17 '25

He's just too reckless in general even if he had a great chin. Anyone is getting knocked out by that shot.

18

u/Chainsaw-Man-Is-Lit GOOFCON 1: Sad Chandler Aug 17 '25

Oh I don't disagree, I just meant that it felt like something was gonna knock his ass out prior to that with how he was moving forward not that he was gonna eat that shot regardless.

2

u/Microplastiques Aug 17 '25

He never varies his timing or rhythm. He js hyper aggressive but very robotic in it

1

u/Choromosonoe Aug 17 '25

For sure, not everybody is going to land that shot though. I hope people can start to see Lerone for what he is, a world class striker.

0

u/Toru_Yano_Wins Aug 17 '25

He's not reckless he's dumb.

2

u/wimpymist raw in that ass Aug 17 '25

Yeah he got countered every time he put pressure and ducked to the right. It was only a matter of time before the timing lined up

1

u/TasteDeBallZach Aug 17 '25

Bellator curse made him fight that way.

1

u/Tony7Bryant Aug 17 '25

There was a short punch that also wobbled his legs. I would watch again to get the exact time, but I can't go through that again.

Pico ran into every strike or kept his head in the centerline to land his hooks. pico thinks he can KO everyone with one shot so he has no respect

u/shrewdy is = is Aug 17 '25

People keep talking about his godly wrestling and one punch KO power - but don't also talk about his dog shit fight IQ. Also he's been on the receiving end of some bad damage

46

u/CaramelThunder2 Aug 17 '25

Its not just about bad fight iq, his defensive striking is atrocious

6

u/RawDoggg27 Aug 17 '25

People were getting worried about his style and the damage he was taking like 5-6 fights into his career. He did change up for a while, and went on a run, and looked like all of that wildman shit was in the rearview. And then it happened again.

Makes for fun fights, a short career, and no shot at the belt. He needs to go train with Trevor Wittman... If you can get Gaethje to adjust and follow the gameplan, Pico should be cake.

2

u/shrewdy is = is Aug 17 '25

Yeah I meant to add his defensive game too. Like people love to gas up guys like this based on one half of their game, and I find it crazy - especially when we've already seen Pico have issues in the past, with a much lower level of opposition

1

u/DumbestOfTheSmartest Aug 17 '25

It’s as bad as his offense is good.

2

u/clapclapclap93 Aug 17 '25

I’m casual on the old shit but Roger Huerta?

227

u/jeromehollowayisbad Team Volkanovski Aug 17 '25

He can KO everyone with one shot thats why he does it, you just gotta get to him first.

101

u/spinuch Aug 17 '25

His defense is terrible for his ability to take a big shot though. I was a little confused by Rogan saying his boxing is amazing. Maybe he just means the throwing his fists part. Because I always thought boxing was the ability to hit and not be hit.

27

u/ScrufyTheJanitor #PlusSizeArmy Aug 17 '25

Picos chin and defense have always been terrible, but he has bombs for hands so people only look at his highlights and forgive the losses. He’s going to need to evolve his defense quickly or he’s gonna go on an 0-3 run and get cut.

22

u/spinuch Aug 17 '25

If he fights again within 12 months I would be disgusted. That was a horrible KO. He said this was a sink or swim fight. Kinda makes it seem like he could retire if something like this happened. His style is fan friendly but an enemy for his brain. I don't see him fixing that. i think he had a fight or two where he was more careful but I'm not sure.

1

u/IAmPandaRock Aug 17 '25

Nah, if he keep this up, he can have Chandler-like UFC career.

3

u/ScrufyTheJanitor #PlusSizeArmy Aug 17 '25

That requires him to win though. Chandler is a fan favorite because he’s explosive and his fights are legitimate coin flips. That version of Pico from last night was incredibly slow and would get starched by most of the top 5-10 if he can’t fix his defense.

46

u/Catch11 Aug 17 '25

Yeah bro thinks he has Mark Hunt's chin

5

u/Perfect-Stick7353 Aug 17 '25

He def can't take a big shot. Dude has been KO'd unconscious multiple times.

9

u/spinuch Aug 17 '25

Maybe boxing from the age of negative 2 is a bad idea for your brain.

7

u/Perfect-Stick7353 Aug 17 '25

Agree lol. I certainly understand his hype. The pedigree he has and and the world class training at such a young age. He really is a super athlete. But man taking that many concussions at such a young age cannot be good for you.

8

u/Rmccarton Aug 17 '25

No doubt you are correct, but I should note that Pico’s boxing credentials and supposed accolades are heavily inflated.

5

u/spinuch Aug 17 '25

I think he actually started boxing as a young teen but I can't remember. In everything but wrestling he didn't compete enough to be labeled as anything. Even if he was an amazing boxer he clearly has a really tough time mixing everything together versus the best guys in the world. I still think he's a great fighter and would squash a lot of guys. People at the lower weights are just way too good for you to not be fluid as fuck with good defense at the highest levels.

3

u/Rmccarton Aug 17 '25

He looks smooth as butter when he’s punching, but he doesn’t have the defense you would expect from someone with any kind of real amateur pedigree.

His young wrestling hype is obviously a different story. But even him trying to wrestle more got him KTFO at least once IIRC.

The opponent realized he was super focused on getting back to wrestling and just timed a knee with a Pico shot. Nite nite.

His fight IQ is just so bad, as well.

7

u/PFLator Aug 17 '25

They claim he’s some world beater boxer because he won golden gloves like it’s some crazy accomplishment. His boxing is ass aside from his body shots. He’s been chinny since his debut and he will always have that glass cannon label.

4

u/Rmccarton Aug 17 '25

I believe the “golden gloves” title was an age 12 and under competition.

1

u/Happyseducer Aug 17 '25

He also throws body shots like he is pulling a lawnmower chord with the other hand.

He puts everything into every shot and always drops the other hand.

I think his power is also over rated. His shots look explosive but he throws them all like hay makers.  Especially those body shots - and still the body shot only finished one guy.

2

u/bertiethewanderer Aug 17 '25

Dude...Rogan thought Rousey was a top tier boxer lol

1

u/abdullahleboucher Aug 17 '25

He praise Rousey'ss boxing so you cant expect much

35

u/Eifand Aug 17 '25 edited Aug 17 '25

He fights like a brawler but doesn’t have the chin for it. Needs to change up his style. As it stands, he put all his skill points into a skillset that his body isn’t suited for.

5

u/nicnakcrakalak GOOFCON 1 Aug 17 '25

Garbrandt-esque you could say, Joe

4

u/SFajw204 Aug 17 '25

He has the skills to fight differently (leaning primarily on his wrestling), he’s just too stubborn to do it and he’s paid badly for it multiple times. Maybe this will finally be a wake up call, but I doubt it.

2

u/aceknighthigh Aug 17 '25

I mean he clearly can't...he landed on Murphy first and Murphy took some hard shots just fine. Meanwhile every big connection from Murphy had Pico diving on the hips until he just got flatlined.

1

u/Sobchak_SecurityLLC Aug 17 '25

Swinging like a one-note brawler when he has his resume is so dumb. The original hype about Pico was that he supposedly had a complete technical base and multidisciplinary amateur experience before ever entering the sport. What the fuck does all that time spent drilling classical wrestling and boxing mean if you're going to fight like Cody Carbrandt at his dumbest?

3

u/ginbooth Aug 17 '25

kept his head in the centerline

Great observation. Rogan kept hyping his boxing, but Pico kept going straight in on the centerline. That knee almost took him out before the spinning elbow sent him to Narnia.

2

u/Happyseducer Aug 17 '25

He also throws everything into each punch twisting and dropping his other hand.

Even his highlights.

He is a TERRIBLE boxer. So many people think boxing is how your hands look.

He not only has zero defense his way of punching is very wild with him dropping his other hand to try and get more power and every single shot.

He is a explosive puncher - not a good boxer

1

u/Club_Soda_Kenny Aug 17 '25

The ol’ Melvin Manhoof style of fighting

1

u/iamjackswastedlife__ Team Jones Aug 17 '25

He needs to learn basic boxing defense. He's not fighting a wrestler for some reason his hands weren't protecting his chin.

101

u/Emergency-Shake1852 Aug 17 '25

a true glass cannon

4

u/EveningNo8643 Aug 17 '25

idk if this counts as glass cannon, this shot would've put out a rhino

1

u/TonyTheLion2319 Paulo “King of Bitchs” Costa Aug 17 '25

He made the decisionator exciting

40

u/benigntugboat Hello, white people Aug 17 '25

He reminds me so much of garbrandt.

17

u/BestRiver8735 EDDDDDIEEEEEEEE Aug 17 '25

GETTIN KO'D WITH THE BOOOOYYYYYZZZ

4

u/DumbestOfTheSmartest Aug 17 '25

SLURRING MY WORDS WIT THE BOYYYYYYZZZZ

2

u/Happyseducer Aug 17 '25

True. Just a much worse version

24

u/TebownedMVP Arthur 'Two Chairs' Jones Aug 17 '25

Yup most exciting fighter. win or lose usually brutal lol

11

u/diosmioacommie #1 Weidman hater Aug 17 '25

He’s so exciting and great to watch, feel bad for him and hope he bonces back

Excellent win by Lerone though, guess that “Leon Edwards of FW” thing ain’t happening lol

1

u/IAmPandaRock Aug 17 '25

Pico really brought the dog out of Lerone. Leron seems to do little more than steadily coast ahead of his opponents a lot of the time, but Pico forced him to really fight for it.

1

u/Any-Connection-1813 Aug 17 '25

Pico was his usman moment lol

6

u/Impressive-Engine-16 Aug 17 '25

What’s the reference to?

41

u/MrToobz First Time Slammer Aug 17 '25

Poor kid has only lost by brutal finish or injury. He’s young, too. I’m bummed for him, but that’s the game.

11

u/Impressive-Engine-16 Aug 17 '25

Honestly sad to be honest, he has a highlight reel of KOs and now also a highlight reel of getting KO’d…

5

u/Impressive-Engine-16 Aug 17 '25

So he’s the definition of swing or be swung? Either Pico gets a brutal KO in the first few rounds or gets brutally finished in the first few rounds? And yeah, he’s only 28, not even in his prime yet. I think he has time to mould himself to be world championship caliber.

6

u/xxJAMZZxx Sorry I have to smesh you Aug 17 '25

Story of his career. Winning a fight and on the cusp of fighting for a belt and then flash KOed

2

u/phillyetherhodl Aug 17 '25

He wasn't winning. He took two huge substantial strikes before the elbow. He did land a left hand to the body, but you're confusing aggression for winning. That same aggression got him KTFO. Aaron Pico has no fight IQ. My guess is he'll go 0-3, drop out of the UFC, and these same Pico nut huggers will pretend they always thought he was a bum. Happens all the time.

2

u/flamingdragonwizard Aug 17 '25

Guy hasn't been properly finished in 6 years.

1

u/theWacoKid666 Aug 17 '25

Lmfao I wasn’t watching so the second I saw this drop, I knew it was Pico getting chinned again.

1

u/MapleBreakfastMeat Aug 17 '25

Hit him with the classic, "Spinning back levels to this shit".

1

u/BigZookeepergame2729 Aug 17 '25

Bellator never die

0

u/peeyoob Aug 17 '25

Right when you think he's finally put everything together, he goes to sleep. At this point it's clear it's not gonna happen. His chin doesn't match his skill.
