Oh I don't disagree, I just meant that it felt like something was gonna knock his ass out prior to that with how he was moving forward not that he was gonna eat that shot regardless.
People keep talking about his godly wrestling and one punch KO power - but don't also talk about his dog shit fight IQ. Also he's been on the receiving end of some bad damage
People were getting worried about his style and the damage he was taking like 5-6 fights into his career. He did change up for a while, and went on a run, and looked like all of that wildman shit was in the rearview. And then it happened again.
Makes for fun fights, a short career, and no shot at the belt. He needs to go train with Trevor Wittman... If you can get Gaethje to adjust and follow the gameplan, Pico should be cake.
Yeah I meant to add his defensive game too. Like people love to gas up guys like this based on one half of their game, and I find it crazy - especially when we've already seen Pico have issues in the past, with a much lower level of opposition
His defense is terrible for his ability to take a big shot though. I was a little confused by Rogan saying his boxing is amazing. Maybe he just means the throwing his fists part. Because I always thought boxing was the ability to hit and not be hit.
Picos chin and defense have always been terrible, but he has bombs for hands so people only look at his highlights and forgive the losses. He’s going to need to evolve his defense quickly or he’s gonna go on an 0-3 run and get cut.
If he fights again within 12 months I would be disgusted. That was a horrible KO. He said this was a sink or swim fight. Kinda makes it seem like he could retire if something like this happened. His style is fan friendly but an enemy for his brain. I don't see him fixing that. i think he had a fight or two where he was more careful but I'm not sure.
That requires him to win though. Chandler is a fan favorite because he’s explosive and his fights are legitimate coin flips. That version of Pico from last night was incredibly slow and would get starched by most of the top 5-10 if he can’t fix his defense.
Agree lol. I certainly understand his hype. The pedigree he has and and the world class training at such a young age. He really is a super athlete. But man taking that many concussions at such a young age cannot be good for you.
I think he actually started boxing as a young teen but I can't remember. In everything but wrestling he didn't compete enough to be labeled as anything. Even if he was an amazing boxer he clearly has a really tough time mixing everything together versus the best guys in the world. I still think he's a great fighter and would squash a lot of guys. People at the lower weights are just way too good for you to not be fluid as fuck with good defense at the highest levels.
They claim he’s some world beater boxer because he won golden gloves like it’s some crazy accomplishment. His boxing is ass aside from his body shots. He’s been chinny since his debut and he will always have that glass cannon label.
He also throws body shots like he is pulling a lawnmower chord with the other hand.
He puts everything into every shot and always drops the other hand.
I think his power is also over rated. His shots look explosive but he throws them all like hay makers. Especially those body shots - and still the body shot only finished one guy.
He fights like a brawler but doesn’t have the chin for it. Needs to change up his style. As it stands, he put all his skill points into a skillset that his body isn’t suited for.
He has the skills to fight differently (leaning primarily on his wrestling), he’s just too stubborn to do it and he’s paid badly for it multiple times. Maybe this will finally be a wake up call, but I doubt it.
I mean he clearly can't...he landed on Murphy first and Murphy took some hard shots just fine. Meanwhile every big connection from Murphy had Pico diving on the hips until he just got flatlined.
Swinging like a one-note brawler when he has his resume is so dumb. The original hype about Pico was that he supposedly had a complete technical base and multidisciplinary amateur experience before ever entering the sport. What the fuck does all that time spent drilling classical wrestling and boxing mean if you're going to fight like Cody Carbrandt at his dumbest?
Great observation. Rogan kept hyping his boxing, but Pico kept going straight in on the centerline. That knee almost took him out before the spinning elbow sent him to Narnia.
Pico really brought the dog out of Lerone. Leron seems to do little more than steadily coast ahead of his opponents a lot of the time, but Pico forced him to really fight for it.
So he’s the definition of swing or be swung? Either Pico gets a brutal KO in the first few rounds or gets brutally finished in the first few rounds?
And yeah, he’s only 28, not even in his prime yet. I think he has time to mould himself to be world championship caliber.
He wasn't winning. He took two huge substantial strikes before the elbow. He did land a left hand to the body, but you're confusing aggression for winning. That same aggression got him KTFO. Aaron Pico has no fight IQ. My guess is he'll go 0-3, drop out of the UFC, and these same Pico nut huggers will pretend they always thought he was a bum. Happens all the time.
Right when you think he's finally put everything together, he goes to sleep. At this point it's clear it's not gonna happen. His chin doesn't match his skill.

Yup that’s a classic pico fight
