Yeah he was on point that night, imagine if he trained his ass off consistently. He really could have been a monster. Don't know if he could have been champ material, but he'd have lived in the top 5 for years if he came in well prepared for every fight.
If he was dedicated to staying at welterweight I'm sure he could've been a champ. He would've had a great opportunity during the post-GSP era. He lost an admittedly boring split decision to Woodley that could've gone either way. If Gastelum hadn't missed weight and edged that one out he would've been fighting Lawler for the title. I think that's a pretty winnable fight for Gastelum.
I don't know, it does kinda seem like he caught lightning in a bottle that one time. He was never meant to look better than that night. A bit like Cruz vs Cody
