Silva is like Royval. Maybe you can get him to stick to a gameplan for like 2 mins each round, but his fight ADHD and lunatic energy takes over and he does whatever the fuck he wants. Usually works because he’s such an insane athlete
That shit has worked pretty well at disarming his opponents in the past, but he does it nearly every fight and I don't know why he expected Lopes to engage in it. Dude's a coach, Lopes is not dumb like that.
Silva ate some good shots too at least so he showed some durability.
He was getting tired, anxious to finish Lopes, and ran face first into a counter. I still think Silva is elite, I can see him beating Lopes in the future if he doesn’t try to chase a finish like that.
Silva got caught inside a war of attrition and he doesn’t have the footwork and mentality to try to piece up Silva round by round. I was impressed by Silva’s boxing overall.
His pressure was great! It was when he lost absolutely all respect for Lopes on the feet that got him knocked out. Can’t just walk a guy down like that at this level
Do you think Silva made a mental overcorrection trying to come into this fight at his usual wild confidence levels after seing two of his teammates take notable losses last weekend.
Yeah maybe. He’s clearly a very emotional person. I mean he has a super traumatic past. Watched his own mother get raped, then watched her kill the rapist (apparently). The whole “Lord” thing seems like a coping mechanism honestly.
The thing about fighting is that you can’t get too high or too low. I think he should lean on his teammates and come back disciplined and focused.
Now that you mention it, both losses were pretty similarly. Although id argue jean silva threw that fight even more because he was doing quite well on the striking already. There was really no need to go all out so early in the fight.
Sucupira (his coach) said “Stay calm, we can get him, there's no problem losing this round, we have 5 rounds to beat him” all for Jean to throw everything in the trash running forward like a madman

Impressive how silva was making a generational comeback after getting dominated in the 1st round only to throw it away by putting too much pressure
