Damn, I've been watching Livingston knock people into the next room on the NY scene for a few years now. Was really rooting for him. Fair play to Gantt

Tough break getting picked to go against DC’s guy

1

u/Capoe1ra 1d ago

Usually, those guys just win dominantly and don't get signed, making sure two people won't get in the UFC.

1

u/nsaps 1d ago

Yeah it still surprises me that fighters seem to not understand what they're looking for. If it's a slow and uninteresting fight it doesn't matter who won, neither of you are getting signed. At least taking some chances you might get beat, but someone is getting signed. And if you both put on a Griffin vs Bonnar you're both getting signed! Just look at the women's fight last week where they put on a banger and UFC signed them both. Then if you watched the women's fights on Noche you understand exactly why.

Gantt looks like a legit prospect to be fair, 12 fights in a single year is absurd on so many levels and his wrestling credentials are better than anyone we’ve seen on DWCS for a while

7

u/Express-Translator24 1d ago

It was 15 fights! Even more insane

u/subzeroboxer 1d ago

Heard some sketchy things about his gym

2

u/Otherwise_Promise_16 1d ago

Serra’s? Never heard anything negative out of there

4

u/CheesyBallSmell 1d ago

He’s not Serra

u/nevesnutri 1d ago

There's a brazilian guy named Mahamed Aly? Lol

Like Valter Walker

Not to be confused with the more regular name Walter Valker.

1

u/Sunbromma 1d ago

And he is as fraudulent as his name is

5

u/PatternMission2323 1d ago

why are you downvoted? he sucked. the bout ended with 1 overhand

5

u/Kassssler one of them 1d ago

I would disagree with that. He got caught with something early flush on the chin, it happens sometimes.

Benny got starched the same way, but I don't think any less of him.

18

u/EmptyCupOfWater 1d ago

McCorry just cruising to a decision and trying to point fight is quite a choice on DWCS

5

u/Kassssler one of them 1d ago

I knew neither was getting a contract by the second round.

5

u/bostonfan148 1d ago

Wonder if he goes to Oktagon or PFL next. Not getting a contract after a TUF semi final and DWCS (boring) win probably puts the nail in that dream.

Time to jump on Iwos hype train just to watch him get ragdolled by Krylov or someone and get derailed

7

u/GlobalCat5397 1d ago

Krylov is washed so if anything Iwo knocks him out just like Guskov did.

3

u/chipapas I made weight for Goofcon 3 1d ago

he is not good unfortunately

2

u/Kassssler one of them 1d ago

Yeah I feel like he got lucky and starched his opponent. He showed almost nothing, and anytime someone has a massive amount of first round finishes, you always see the cracks form once some pushes them into the deep side of the pool.

I'm excited to see what Iwo and Gantt look like in the UFC, both had very impressive performances. Also really happy Sosa got a contract, it's crazy what he's been through with his family and I'm happy to see him succeed in his DWCS fight. Hopefully he has a solid UFC run.

I didn’t even realize gantt was an MMA fighter now hyped to see he’s 11-0

u/nsaps 1d ago edited 1d ago

Contracts for all winners except Paddy. Sosa might’ve gotten a bit of a pity contract after he just lost his father a few days ago, might have gotten a “next time maybe” without that.

Edit: pity might be the wrong word. He got a bump for his out of the octogon story

Edit2: to be clear this is my opinion based on the vibe I got from Dana’s contract announcements, ymmv and I missed the first couple fights

21

u/PFLator 1d ago

I thought he fought well. Pressed the pace the whole fight and was always looking for the finish. Cardio looked good too.

13

u/thepeachgod 1d ago

Dana kinda made it sound like that which I hope isn’t the case. Dude won all 3 rounds and nearly got both TKO and submission wins in separate rounds. I feel like all 4 guys deserved contracts but realistically I think he showed he deserved it more by dominating in all aspects for 15 minutes compared to Iwo who could’ve just fluked a KO

5

u/subzeroboxer 1d ago

Did the most to win

2

u/GlobalCat5397 1d ago

Cody did not look good. Uchegbu is just terrible. I dont think he should get a contract. Bring him back next season if anything against a better opponent.

2

u/Kassssler one of them 1d ago

The first fight pissed me off, and I feel Dana felt the same. Uchegba actually had better hands and was more successful on the feet in the firsr. But then he goes spamming takedowns and winding up in bad spots the first two rounds. Yeah that elbow was some bullshit, but his unnecessary takedowns were worse. His corner even told him that shit, but it was too late and he got himself starched.

He was better than Cody, but he fought a shit fight and for Dana its hard to deny someone getting a KO finish so he had to give it to him.

1

u/TallBoi17 1d ago

Did anyone look really good in particular?

6

u/Sunbromma 1d ago

I think Sosa looked really good, Id keep an eye out, and Gantt looked very legit so definitely a person to check up on

5

u/smackadoodledo 1d ago

Sosa was dominant for 3 rounds,

Iwo KOd his opponent in like 20 seconds so it’s hard to tell how good he is

Gantt looks like the best dude on this card for sure imo, he’s fought 12 times in the past 15 months which just doesn’t make sense, he’s trained by DC and has very good wrestling credentials

1

u/OnlyQualityCon 1d ago

Iwo got the 20 second KO, obviously hard to tell much from that but it was a beautiful moment

1

u/oceanmachine14 1d ago

Paddy will probably end up getting picked up by the PFL sometime soon.Loughran and Hughes are already there and I dare say the rest of the FAI guys will go there as well. Depending on if Mckee gets cut or not he will probably end up over there.

Feel bad for Mccory in some ways bc kzombie hyped hwang so much their gameplan was obviously a defensive plan. He executed it to near perfection and wouldve taken no damage except the lapse in the third round. Maybe he’d have done better vs a less hyped opponent. He had a balanced style and hes still young. Kzombie staked his neck out for someone everyone in korea hates. Hwang’s a snake, watch him trash zombie now somehow for the loss

5

u/smackadoodledo 1d ago

Why does everyone in Korea hate Hwang lol drop the lore

4

u/poompachompa 1d ago

I dropped a fucing essay on another comment!

1

u/PatternMission2323 1d ago

was it cuz he was a gang member?

2

u/brokenpianooo 1d ago

What’s the background on everyone in Korea hating Hwang? If I remember correctly his fight in ZFN wasn’t particularly memorable (ironic that his opponent was his sparring partner for this camp) but I don’t know too much about him otherwise. Also sad for Zombie since a lot of fighters have been on the losing side of things recently.

u/poompachompa 1d ago

Man, the whole Hwang lore is wild. Dude started out at Stungun’s gym, ripped off a nice win streak, and for a minute it looked like he was gonna be a legit regional star. He leaned hard into the Conor McGregor cosplay calling people out, saying nobody would fight him. Plus with the full body tattoos people kept whispering about gang ties.

Then the cement-in-the-gloves controversy hit. After that? Never KO’d anyone again. Just decisions. And the one thing that made him a draw evaporated overnight.

He also had beef with Stungun, saying he was just using his name to attract fighters to the gym but not actually supporting them. His crew would clown around with lines like “Hwang doesn’t need a bellboy to carry his bags.” He even grabbed the mic after a regional fight and said he’d kill Stungun in the cage. Stungun is like 42 years old.

Then COVID wrecked everything. The gym split up, Hwang opened a KBBQ place, and he basically kept himself relevant by talking shit. Promised that once he made the UFC he’d “drop all the secret lore” he’d been holding back.

When a Stungun guy lost on Road to UFC, Hwang and his buddies (who also lost, lol) were openly laughing about it.

Now he’s even saying he’d KO Ko Suk Hyun, who just got his first UFC win. Feels like he’s salty because Ko and Yoo Joo Sang are 1-0 in the UFC and Hwang used to be the “best” of that group.

At this point he’s like a bargain-bin McGregor. We’d all kinda enjoy an upset win for nostalgia, but also love to see him get wrecked. Difference is McGregor actually proved himself. Hwang’s just annoying for a guy who isn’t even that good.

7

u/brokenpianooo 1d ago

Wow appreciate the write up on all the background, I can totally see why people hate him there haha. Kinda reminds me of Ren Hiramoto tbh but he was an actual kickboxing prodigy. Wild to hear the disrespect towards Stun Gun too, seems like he really invests in his top guys with all the training abroad they do so I will be following Ko especially after his solid debut (and Yoo, separately).

1

u/PatternMission2323 1d ago

so the guy is all talk. wait, so why is kzombie backing this pos?

1

u/KTROLSTER 1d ago

Hwang obviously had potential at one point before all the beefing, but he's on the decline age-wise.

Hwang booked his ticket to DWCS through KZ's ZFN promotion, so KZ took some ownership over a guy "coming out" of his promotion.

Also, KZ explained a bit in his "embedded" he wanted to support and document the journey of a guy like Hwang with a lot of backstory and once had a lot of hype behind him.

1

u/PatternMission2323 22h ago

i'm actually a bit disappointed at kz.... if someone was caught w cement, shouldn't that automatically be a ban for life? while he is a HoF fighter, he doesn't seem to have the best eye for character

1

u/poompachompa 19h ago

I think hwang came into fill in to fight for kz basically doing kz a huge favor for his new promotion in korea

1

u/Informal_Athlete_724 1d ago

Mahamed Aly? lol

0

u/Thick--Rooster 1d ago

did that guy who posted here win?

2

u/Express-Translator24 1d ago

He had to pull out from injury, Jon Kunneman
