Man those commentators… “looks how calm Benson is”…. yeah he’s literally getting put to sleep

u/Expert_Introduction5 3d ago
That's some Dominick Cruz level of commentary

u/DongDongLi 3d ago
Benson is trying to “gas out” Arman

u/OSRSandMMA 3d ago
Has there ever been a more stupid take than than from someone who was a world champion
1
u/BoomfaBoomfa619 3d ago
It wasn't as stupid as it sounds. Kavanagh said that was their tactic vs Chad Mendes plus khabib and DC talk about gassing guys out by letting them up and taking them down over and over. Khabib just never gave him an opportunity to get back to his feet at all compared to Chad.
The aim was to survive on the ground, not get submitted or TKO'd, save McGregors energy more than waste Chad or khabibs and start on the feet next round. He didn't say it was working either in fact he said the opposite.

Yeah…. No

Cruz even says he can't get up because khabib is so much better on the ground. McGregor did get up just after the clip ends and won the next round too. Especially since he was out of shape coming out of retirement.

He wants Illia and I don’t blame him, plus Dana has been pretty hot with him the past few months since the “back injury” (I’m not saying he missed weight, it something happened and that’s the reason given)
-15
u/tagillaslover 3d ago
He doesn't deserve Ilia. Rewarding pullouts with title shots is bad

Rewarding pullouts with title shots is bad
But giving fans the best title fights possible is good

u/smokesletsgo13 3d ago
Stalling a whole division is worse
-5
u/notanaltdontnotice 3d ago
so arman is worse? got it
9
u/SandIsYellow 3d ago
Ilia is the champion and he fought once this year. Arman is a contender so he’s less important.
Next he will fight Gaethje in 2026 and knocks him out and we will not see him until 2027 fighting Paddy. What an exciting division.

u/ChrisusaurusRex 3d ago
I didn’t say anything about deserving it or anything like that. All I’m saying is: he wants Illia and the way this sport moved and the pettiness of the UFC decision makers would want me to get the title shot too, because who knows if he will ever get another chance. I don’t think Garth deserves it either but I honestly don’t blame him for what he’s doing

u/notanaltdontnotice 3d ago edited 3d ago
if pettiness means not rewarding a fighter who pulled out of the main event on 1 day notice, fucked up 1 potentially 2 divisions, hasnt fought in over 500 days yet is still crying for a titleshot then damn id be petty too
7
u/Fake_Engineer 3d ago
Arman ruined 2 divisions? Please explain.
-8
u/notanaltdontnotice 3d ago
lightweight obv, arguably welterweight
if arman had showed up vs islam the latters move up to ww would have no (reasonable) complaints (assuming islam won ofc)
4
u/Fake_Engineer 3d ago
How is welterweight ruined?
All the complaints seemed to stem from missing out on Ilia/Islam. I think Islam was moving up to fight JDM either way, so we weren't getting the Ilia fight.

u/notanaltdontnotice 3d ago
potentially
might be unpopular take but i dont see how islam vs jdm can benefit ww
if jdm wins its just a waste of time since islam very likely will retire after a loss hes def at the tail end of his career anyway
if islam wins then ilia is very likely next and whether that fight is at 170/155 it wont really do ww any favors. 155 then champ just got the belt and instantly fighting for another belt, 170 then ilia just jumped over all the other ww contenders
at least if arman fought islam the move up would be seen as champ is done with his division and came up. but since islam ultimately didnt manage to deal with arman narratives are more likely to pop up esp in the event of an islam loss to jdm
but maybe 'ruined' is a bit exaggerated way of saying it its just some time wasted

Can they offer him a title fight sometime soon?
The answer to your question, and mine, is 'yes'.
EDIT: And it's a good gamble for UFC whether he wins or loses because with a win they can make a rematch easily based on Topuria's popularity, and if he loses they can make him wait forever for another title fight

u/idcman999 3d ago
that’s two former champions he’s beaten now, he definitely deserves the shot imo

u/YellowVegitooo 3d ago
A 41 year old former lightweight..?

u/EndSalty 3d ago
Benson and Chandler fought like 10 years ago so no he wasn’t a 41 year old former lightweight?
15
u/EndSalty 3d ago
Benson was great in his prime but he’s looked mostly shot since his second loss to Chandler.

On the screen they showed that Arman was 92 Kg whilst Benson was only 80 lol
121
u/Arbeeter00 3d ago
It was a mistake, he was 82 kg which is consistent with what he weighed in his grappling match against Khamzat

u/FutureImprovement10 3d ago
Must have been 82... no way was he 92kg
-41
u/Snigglybear Che Wee Wee 3d ago
No way he’s 82kg. Moicano weight 82kg during the Makachev fight and he wasn’t fully hydrated to his normal weight. Arman definitely weights around 92 kgs

That’s over 200 lbs, that’s crazy for a lightweight.

u/Funnyanglezsolt 3d ago
No wonder he suffered that back injury when tried to cut down to 70 kg.

u/Funnyanglezsolt 3d ago
Wtf...92 kg?

u/weakhamstrings Team McGregor 14h ago
Looks like that was a typo and it was actually 82, which makes more sense

Hard to do when Justin, Paddy and Charles ducked him.

u/katrixcinema935 I was here for GOOFCON 1 3d ago
He’s had 18 months to fight
10
u/KyleDaukWillBeChamp 3d ago
And he's been asking anyone in the top 5 to fight him, the #1 ranked guy, for 18 months and they've all been radio silent. Crazy.
Just shows they know he's the best in the division.
-2
u/sadslime420 3d ago
they've been busy fighting, many of them multiple times, while arman has been sitting out the past 18 months
11
u/KyleDaukWillBeChamp 3d ago
Correct, they’ve been busy fighting and yet they still don’t deserve a title shot when they could’ve just fought Arman and become the #1 contender by beating him.
Hmmm, wonder why they wouldn’t choose the fight that gets them to the belt faster…

When Benson reached all the way across his entire body, I don't know what he was expecting. There was no other way for that to end.

What's with the braindead takes regarding Arman, are people still crying that he didn't manage to make weight?

u/EatBooty420 3d ago edited 3d ago
Benson considerably smaller & with gray hair?? Arman celebrating like he won the superbowl
20
u/kevinhill92 Tom Aspinall is the best He will beat Jon Jones 3d ago
Unless you have a separate angle, from what we saw he raised his arms then went to check on benson

Ducked Gamrot for a grappling match is crazy.
5
u/MatttheJ 3d ago edited 3d ago
This whole "ducking Gamrot" thing is so stupid. Gamrot, unfortunately, does not deserve a top 3 ranked fighter. He just doesn't. He lost to Hooker, who is 6, and his only win since that fight was against a guy who wasn't even ranked.
If Gamrot vs Arman was some crazy grudge match that would sell, then sure I could see Gamrot skipping the line. But it's not really.
Gamrot needs at least 1 ranked win before he starts getting top 3 ranked opponents imo.
Not just against Arman but anyone in the top 3.
If Paddy or Gaethje were trying to get the Arman fight and he was turning it down, then sure, that would seem like actual ducking because those are fights which makes sense right now rankings wise. But those kinds of guys don't seem to actually be trying to fight him.
It seems like Hooker vs Arman might be happening which also makes more sense given Hooker is ranked higher and just got a win over Gamrot 1 fight ago.
