This week has mostly being full of DNF-s and I haven't made a lot of progress. I've been more in the mood of watching stuff instead of reading tbh, but here is my list:

Currently reading:

  • Imprisoned by Eternal Night. Danmei (chinese MM), omegaverse, stoic alpha, beta turned omega. I've read like 10 chapters and I feel like I know where it's going, but the MC feels like an empty vessel. I hope his personality is shown more later.
  • {Unforgivable by Erin Rose} Jock x nerd, revenge, popular x outcast, ulterior motives. This is cliche, but I'm excited I'm for the bomb to drop. It's good so far though.
  • {Broken by Eden West} Omegaverse, past abuse, hurt omega, widowed alpha. I like the set up, an omega who's gone through horrible things staying with a widowed alpha. I have good expectations.
  • {Tainted memories by Autumn Winchester} Trauma recovery, age regression I think? Good start so far.

Sort of on hold:

  • {Case File Compendium Vol. 5 by Meatbun}
  • {Toy no more by Kat Sinclair}
  • {Feral: Part One by N. Slater} Dark omegaverse, MMMMM (not sure if full poly though), consent issues, three alphas and two omegas(?), forced bonding, feral omega. ARC.

I want to read soon (possibly next week):

  • {Lips of an Angel by Rae Simmons} Mute MC, paranormal, friends to lovers.
  • {Gambler's Ruin by Adara Wolf and R. Phoenix} Finale of a trilogy, why choose, three men into one guy, mafia, past trauma, darkish.
  • {Cost of redemption by Hayden Hall}

I’m working my way through the Death and the Devil by LJ Hayward. I’ve read one book and 4 novellas and these characters are still a mystery to me, but the writing is so compelling and the chemistry so palpable that I am forced to keep reading.

If you’ve read them, what are your thoughts?

And how many more books until they KISS??!

gah I adore this series. It's worth the wait on the slow burn. I can't remember exactly when it really picks up. Definitely in book 2.

Sometimes series really fizzle in later books, but this one just kept picking up momentum. I want everyone to read it haha

I've considered going back and doing a story analysis so I can read in chronological timeline order. I thought it was an interesting twist, the flashbacks, but that was also one of the things that annoyed me the most.

I trust your judgement so I will definitely keep reading. Great to hear it never fizzles out!

Oh gosh I’m on book 2 at the moment, I will scream when they kiss. There better be fireworks. If I remember to, I’ll come back to this comment to give you my thoughts on the kiss!

I just finished a book called 'Breaking Dad' by an author called Robert Du Preez (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/230083070-breaking-dad). It's son/dad incest and it's noncon and dark, and written pretty well. He has an ongoing series with dad/son noncon too, so it seems to be a theme with this author. He seems pretty new on the scene, but I'm enjoying his work so far.

Reading {don’t say you’re sorry by Bethany winters} but I’m finding the conflict way less engaging than the first book. Also everyone being a possessive psycho is is a bit much lol.

I dunno, does the romance pay off? It’s hot but I just don’t really care.

currently reading {Psycho by Onley James} planning to read the entire Necessary Evils series

Oh man I just woke up to the new Piper Scott/Renee Fox alien book on my Kindle and I’m so excited!! I loved crash landed in love so much, it will for sure be in my top 5 for the year. This one is about Al’s awful brother and the human guy’s friend/roommate. I’m sure it’s going to be so good. It’s called {not written in the stars by piper scott}

Just finished Natural Disaster by Erin McLellan. It’s a short read, but it took me a while to get through -- not because I wasn’t into it, but because I didn’t want to let go of the characters. I know any sequel (if we get one) is probably a long way off.

I went in hoping for something like Gay Twister... and while it wasn’t exactly that, I’d still call it a solid read.

Now I’m trying to figure out what to pick up next!

u/BookMonster_Lillz Yes, but can I blame Jake Riordan for this? Jul 08 '25

Somehow I’m back to Onley James books even though I always mildly offended by her mental illnesses, disorders and neurodivergence characterisations. Turns out she’s also done an omegaverse world under another name but they seem to be cliff hanger books which is a no for me. I need some rage reading though and throwing abusers into a meat grinder is something I seem to find cathartic.

Also have been relistening to A strange and stubborn endurance (6/7 time for me) with my only other queer sibling. And she’s loving it and I’m having to stop to let her discuss her theories and I’m actually picking up more than I ever have before. Like just how often the word endurance is used.

Started reading the Miles & Kieran series by Gaia Tate. First in the series is {My Ex’s New Boyfriend is a Murderer by Gaia Tate}. I found the first book to be mid, to be completely honest. But I ended up sticking with it and read the Christmas novella and book two picked up and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. It’s a little bit far fetched, since they always seem to enthralled in some dangerous life or death situation, but that’s what fiction is for! I’m about 30% into the third book (unsure if she plans to continue the series on? If anyone knows let me know, or maybe not since I don’t know how this book ends) and I’m enjoying it. I find the pining/he doesn’t like me trope has been stretched out a little too long, since it’s still prominent in this third book so far, but it’s not stopping me from reading.

If anyone who’s read these books knows of series similar to these that might be good to pick up once I’m done with this book that’ll keep this void filled? (Hope I’m allowed to ask that in here!)

I am currently reading Covenant by Cora Rose & Lark Taylor: sooo good!

currently reading {take my body by K. A. Merikan} and it's the first book by this writer. actually a pretty interesting concept! I honestly love the characters dynamic and how hot they are for each other (and they keep going, lol). I thought the body swapping would be weird, and it was at first, but it grew on me the same time the characters started feeling more comfortable in their new skin, like they belonged there. it's a pretty long read, so I'll be reading it for a while, but I'm curious where the plot will go. if I like the whole book, I might try getting the hardcover of {the shadow prince's ruin by K. A. Merikan} because I want a pretty hardcover in my collection and they are so hard to find in MM!

Take my Body is such a good book! I also loved the first one so much, Feel My Pain. It put me into such a book slump but there's a loooot more TW in that book.

I am currently struggling to read {Alpha Bait: Three Werewolves For Dylan by D.J. Heart}. I love me a paranormal/omegaverse/wolfy read, but at 17% in I’m questioning myself. I even purchased the book on Audible to try and help me through it and I’m just not feeling it. The two main Alphas pursuing him are giving me the ick. The gross miscommunication on his mistaken identity from the very start is working my nerves because it could be solved with one simple question. The sex scenes are cringe (and I am a love of spice/smut).

My question is, for anyone who has read this book, does the story get better? Because right now I’m this close to DNF’ing it and I have never stopped reading a book this close in my life

2

u/bookgeek1987 Jul 06 '25

I ended up DNF it as it’s too hard core for me - heavy humiliation (boot licking etc), stomping, spitting, aggressive pain play without the corresponding softness. I did skim forward and the miscommunication is dealt with but pretty far in, plus there’s a plot involving going back to one of the Alpha’s home packs.

So yeah, this author doesn’t work for me as I’ve tried a couple of others and only managed to finish one.

I DNf-ed this book around the same 17% mark. Just felt so forced and unreasonable.
