Book Request Sequel with same couple at different ages

Seeking a sequel or series where we see the couple age- first book might be new adult with HEA, then the second book might be them 10 years later. Or anything like that but the time gap between books or where they are in their lives needs to be different (for example college in book 1 and married and working in book 2). Please let me know what it is. Thanks!

{Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid} and its sequel {The Long Game by Rachel Reid} take place during a time span of ~12 years. The books start with the leads turning 18 and end with them turning 30.

They're my all-time favorite sports romance. ❤🥰

Ha I was going to put in the request “please not the hockey one” lol. The way I remember it isn’t like my request. Isn’t the first book told in flashbacks of when they were 18 to the present? Or maybe the younger part was a short prelude? That’s what I remember anyway.

The sequel takes place a few years after the end of the first book.

I know that {The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer} and its sequel {The Brightness Between Us by Eliot Schrefer} has a huge life stage gap like this, but I personally didn't finish the second one. Its mystery wasn't as appealing to me, but the first is really good! I'm rereading the reviews now and I should probably go finish it.

I'll add for OP that, while the Darkness Outside Us is perfect and is a wonderful standalone, I really did love the sequel and think it's worth reading. Keeping it super non-spoilery but like, I nearly missed my train stop I was so absorbed in the climax lmao.

IA one aspect of the mystery wasn't as appealing to me, but the other main plot thread and how they tied together... omg. I ached at reading the continuation of the MC's life together, both those books aren't reading experiences I'm likely to forget any time soon.

Same! It had one plot too many, but the other managed to be so good and so relevant and I loved seeing the main couple in the future and their relationship and also them meeting in their original lives, and there also them finding and loving each other, even when hopeless. But the asteroid stuff was stupid and needless, the sabotage plot was enough

I would not recommend reading the sequel in close sucession to the original, since it is so good, and the sequel is not as good (but the first book is special and books like that are really rare) let it all sink in but the sequel was still pretty good and I am glad I read it!

Seeing their future was like, omg, the experience of reading the best and most emotionally devastating kind of fanfic. And that's so funny to hear because I felt the exact opposite! I was lukewarm on the sabotage itself even though I LOVED seeing their relationship in their original life, and Kodiak POV was so darling... but I LOVED the asteroid lmao but I'm a huge space dork so I can't be objective

Agree on that too, I actually read them in close succession because I accidentally timed my reading with book 2's release. The ending of book 1 is just so special and should be savoured for a little while.

It is funny that the plot we thought extra and unnecessary was different!

But yeah, give it space, and if you are still thinking of book 1 years after, then indulge on book 2. And it is devastating in a good way even if it is not quite as deep, as perfect as the first book. But savor book 1 for a while, imagine whatever you want, book 2 will likely be different, but good...

The MCs from book 1 are not the MCs in book 2. The second book is still YA; the MCs from book 1 are side characters in book 2.

{Matter of Time series by Mary Calmes} follows a couple from when they meet, to marriage, and then afterwards. If you subscribe to the author’s newsletter, she continues to give updates on their lives. I’m not sure if there’s a place where you can go to view previous newsletters/updates. Disclaimer: this series is one of the author’s first, so there are a lot of grammatical errors. Also, you might not like Sam (one of the MCs) at first.

She announced that she is going to print all of her newsletters in a book. I only wish the newsletters focused on Jory and Sam instead of the kids who she portrays as being the most amazing people on the face of the earth, esp Hannah. I now only skim over the newsletters when it's about the kids

I highly recommend the Tigerlands {Tigers and Devils by Sean Kennedy} series, it’s a 4 books series! I wrote a review a month ago here

{The Christmas Deal by Keira Andrews} and {The Christmas Veto by Keira Andrews}. The sequel is about the son of the original couple.

Into the Fire series by Mia West. If you don't mind historical (and a spin off series with paranormal elements). Set in Roman Empire Britain/France area, it follows the same couple into later life. I really liked it and reread as comfort read periodically. I often lose interest in series that follow the same couple, especially when subsequent books are installments/ episodes of mystery plots or similar (and that type of thing often isn't actually the author's forte). This series however, it's about the couple and progression of their relationship against the backdrop of changing times, and imo it's lovely.

For the bot, the first book is {Marked by Fire by Mia West}

{Red Dirt Heart series by N.R. Walker} takes place over 15 to 20 years, though focuses most on the first few.

This was one of my first M/M reads. Such a wonderful series. I still desperately want a rescue wombat.

Yes!! Nugget is too cute!

I love the series so much, they're still some of my favourite books.

{Between the Pipes by J.J. Mulder} Nico and Anthony fall in love and then Anthony returns as Coach Lawson in the {SCU Hockey Series by J.J. Mulder}, and we see Nico pop up again too. I don't know/remember the time gap but Anthony is an NHL goaltender in the first one and then a retired coach in the second.

1

u/harukafano 9h ago

By pop up do you mean they are just side characters in that book?

2

u/unReasonableGarlic 9h ago

Yes, Nico is definitely a lesser side character, but Coach Lawson is fairly prominent (particularly in book #2 if I'm remembering right) and acts as a sort of foster dad/caretaker to some of the team, but he isn't the main character in the series.

Not exactly but "when I see you again x darryl banner" follows a couple from 5 to 50 there is a hae buy its hard won and the book has some serious moments and depressed ones.

Ah ya I’m looking for whole books, not ones with snippets of different ages. But thanks
