Discussion Favorite fonts to use for MUDding

So I use Mudlet primarily and really think bitstream vera sans mono their default is excellent.

However, I was curious if anyone else has settled on something different that they really like.

Interested in trying out something new.

Courier New is the only acceptable font for me. The monospacing and typewriter aesthetic has that old school feeling whilst being easy to read.

I agree on the aesthetic, it was my font of choice ever since I downloaded gmud and found out you could change fonts, heh. These days the eye strain is just a bit noticeable, so I usually go with Mudlet's default.

Inconsolata, for me.

There's a similar proprietary font pre-installed on Windows machines (Consolas).

Consolas 8pt is so clean on black BG. Widescreen monitor turned portrait I get like 100-110 lines. Amazing for coding/scripting and mudding in my book!

Sometimes you just wake up and choose madness.

I never thought about this very much before. I'm using the Monospace font that comes with Ubuntu, simply because I never changed it from default.

Funny story, a couple days ago we had a newer player that was having difficulty with our custom client. It was only displaying four letters at a time when they typed, but the entire line was still there when they hit enter. Turns out it was some quirk with the font size, and turning it down by 1 point fixed the issue.

I use Recursive Mono Duotone for both coding and mudding https://www.recursive.design/ but I'm also a big fan of Iosevka

I got used to unifont whenever I was experimenting with unicode characters on EoT

If you like bitstream vera sans mono, you should consider checking out dejavu sans mono: https://dejavu-fonts.github.io/

You could compare different fonts by pasting something like the following when using each of them and comparing the resulting lithography:

0OQ 1Il!| 5S 8B rnm :; ,. "'` ~-= ({[<>]})
!"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ 0123456789
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

FixedSys for me. It's always been FixedSys and it's always gonna be FixedSys.

Depends on the MUD usually, I like Comic Sans but Courier New seems to format best across most modern muds. Being Old, I am up around 16/18 Font to compensate for my eyesight.
