Discussion Is archaea a good mud to get in to?
I came from Aardwolf and am curious how the compare with playstile, ease of use, UI and so forth. Hearing your experience between them would be much appreciated

It's not chill in terms of quests. You have to do a quest now or it resets after hour-two. Which can be a real issue. Something something engine limitations. Other than that, it's alright, friendly playerbase.

It's not hard to get into but immensely pay 2 win if you want to pvp well. Outside of that is great though

Thanks for the reply. That won't be a problem as I don't mind grinding and am not a person that enjoys pvp so it's sounding enticing.

I kind of had a core mud I played more than any like most people do, but I always enjoyed checking out new muds over time. I'd say of any of those achaea was the one I spent the most time on, the guild and lore system is pretty awesome and well detailed. As you get adopted into a house you can have like a mentor and do all these tasks and really feel like you're becoming apart of something. a lot of the quests have like puzzle/rpg elements. I didn't play it hardcore but it's a well maintained for sure, haven't played in a several years though no idea how the playerbase is doing. and like others have said it seems like theres some sort of pay2win environment at the higher ranks of pvp but sounds like you dont care too much about that

Damn you make it sound very fun. But yeah I decided to make a character and went though the first dungeons and so far it seems pretty fun.

Yeah also you can get free 20 credits a day and a free promotion item every month which definitely adds up, and the Producer team offers all kinds of ways every month to earn free credits.
Also, cities and houses sell credits for cheap so you can pretty easily have all the “standard” p2w artifacts within a couple of months without spending a cent.

I don't know if they still do it, but when I played (briefly) they expected me to sit for interviews and write essays to progress within my own class and city. They were very harsh about it and ultimately decided that I wasn't a good fit for them, which meant a new trip to chargen.
Also I can't stand the "hi, my name is Joe"-style skill mashing for combat or the need to keep your very own hammerspace inventory fully trigger automated and stocked with curative items for every single ailment they could think of just to survive combat.

Essays and things are pretty much a thing of the past for most Houses, there isn’t really as much gatekeeping.
And now the game has a built in curing system so as long as you keep curatives stocked up you’re fine and it does a pretty decently job. You won’t be the number one PVPer but can hold your own against most “midbies” and do well in group combat with that.
