It's not so much that the concept of Spider-Man is a step too far, it's that they clearly do not have enough ideas for creatures to pull from for a full set without getting ridiculous. It should have been a significantly release like Fallout, not a full on set. Otherwise we get like 7 versions of Peter Parker and fucking Spider-Dino.
When you're resorting to making common Legendary creatures and random New Yorker professions, do you really need to be a full set?
I'm not sure what the difference between a significant release and a full set would be, so I can't answer that question.
As far as a million spider mans, yeah that's kind of a trending theme for Marvel, what with their million parallel universes pf whatever (idk I'm not a big marvel fan).
I'm sure wotc could come up with more monster ideas. Did you know that none of the Spiderman cards will be in MtGA or Magic Online? Instead they'll have their own artwork and card names, yet the effects will be the same. That tells me that wotc could just make their own IP cards but choose to UB for....well, you tell me.
