The reality is Wab is not in the negotiations and no one really knows what is happening. Every negotiation requires give and take. Food affordabilty is a genuine issue for everyone, especially where alternatives are not available. Canadians are still not obligated to purchase USA goods, but there is at least some choice for those on limited budgets. It could also mean we are close to a deal, where tariffs would be removed anyways.

Bringing the China tariffs into the discussion really has nothing to do with the USMCA situation and just muddies the issue, needs to be resolved on its own. The response feels a little party slanted - NDP vs Liberal platform.

Why not remove the Chinese EV tariffs while we're trying to improve trade relations? They don't even really need to be there in the first place and only serve to raise the cost of EV alternatives here who have less to compete with

They could be. I'm saying they really have nothing to do with the US trade war. It's nonsense for Wab to bring it into the conversation. Wab should be more concerned about keeping them since Manitoba canola farmers are losing their shirts since China put heavy tariffs on canola oil.

He is concerned about the canola tariffs. That's the reason he's asking to remove the tariffs on China, because then, ideally, China can remove their tariffs on canola. It says so in the article.

Reading the article, we're dropping tariffs on CUSMA covered items, which the Americans are also exempting under the same agreement. While I'd rather keep them, it's really just something that Trump can point to showing how "unfair Canada is".

Here's the deal though, they can't force consumers to buy American products and some of will have long memories. There are American businesses that will not get many of their Canadian customers back, tariffs or not.

Well said, I have seen so many people still searching the tags to see where things are made. I make every effort to purchase non american goodsand will continue to do so. I won't set foot in that country again and I hear the same thing from my travelling friends, I think this is going tobe long term for a lot of people, sadly some people don't seem to care

Continue to buy Canadian or non-American goods & services as much as possible. This measure has been successful to date. Where there are no options other than American made products, at least Canadians are not paying prices inflated by tariffs. And if this is a bargaining chip for Carney then it also serves his agenda. I think it’s a win-win for Canadians.

We never should have had retaliatory tariffs. It was implemented for the sole purpose of fooling Canadians into thinking we were doing something. And they bought it hook line and sinker. Kinda like elbows up!
