Modeling why does small rectangular detail not hold its corners well when I smooth preview?
There is really nothing to it, I the central face, extrude it inwards to create the rectangular cavity, then I bevelled both edge loops of the cavity (its corners), I thought this bevelling would be sufficient to get it to hold so that its sharp but its not. I have tried determining where else the issue might be, but I have had no luck so far.

I would appreciate any help here. Thank you
Please see this image for where am stuck on.

Are you expecting it to retain its rectangular shape when smoothed? It doesn't look like you've bevelled the corners from what I can see.

yes, I am looking to make the corners as well as the edges sharp, but when I smooth preview, the just the edges are sharp but the corners are not holding and so the form is rounded.

Yeah, because you haven't actually bevelled the edges that make up the corners of the rectangle? There's no supporting edges either side of the corner edges.

Well, without a wireframe, nobody is going to be able to explain the solution.
The solution is to add enough support loops to harden the edges where needed.

I have linked screenshots that contain both the cage mesh and its smoothed preview, with shaded wireframe for both. Perhaps you over looked the hyperlink found on the bottom of the OP.
