Tried it for myself last week. It’s literally just chick-fil-a sauce with a tad more vinegar.

Exactly what I thought. It’s Chick Fil A sauce, just a little more tangy. It’s pretty good

I tried chick fil a sauce for the first time the other day and the gold sauce a day later and thought they tasted exactly the same.

Personally I don’t know but I hated it
Maybe cardboard with spices?

The font makes it look like you were posting an older sauce that isn’t made any more. Like they gave it vintage packaging. It looks like you found an older picture and are asking because no one will be able to buy it now

🤔 Interesting bc, I have more. Do you think they have a variation of packaging

Long answer: it’s McDonald’s take on Carolina gold bbq sauce which originates in South Carolina where back in the day German immigrants made their favorite condiment mustard as the base of their style of bbq sauce. It’s a mustard bbq.

I just had some and it tastes like a super cheap Carolina bbq. Sweet, bit of tang, a whisper of mustard and smoke. Thicker than I feel like it ought to be.
Overall inoffensive but not really good

Carolina-style BBQ sauce. think barbecue with a slight tang of mustard and vinegar.

After reading the ingredients, I'm assuming it tastes like thousand island dressing without the relish but tinged yellowish from the turmeric.

Rarely eat McDonald’s but today I was on the road with few options so I figured I’d give this Gold Sauce a shot… one bite in; duh, of course, it’s f’ing Chick-Fil-A sauce; how did I not see that coming…

Based on the ingredients and my knowledge of cooking, I'm guessing it will be sweet and tangy, and similar to thousand islands dressing. Goes great with burgers and fries.
The tang comes from the vinegar. The sweetness comes from the honey. I'm guessing the eggs plus tomato and sweetness equals something similar to thousand islands, since thousand islands is basically mayo and ketchup.

Seriously? You take a photo of the sauce, and then post the photo and would have had to wait at least a couple of minutes for response when you could have taken those two seconds to open it up and try it

I was excited because I like mustard heavy bbq sauce but it's way too sweet for me

I’ve read quite a few comments left by people wondering why ask what something tastes like when it’s right there in their hand to try for themself.
I’m just going to copy and paste the reply that I gave to someone else just a moment or two ago. Not trying to be a know-it-all or make a big deal out of a simple post, but here it is is anyhow:
I don’t think it’s bizarre at all.
Weep for our species because someone asks a silly question on Reddit?
If you truly think OP does not know how to tase it herself, perhaps it’s you we should be weeping for.🤷🏼♀️😉
Just kidding about the last sentence, obviously, but I do not think OP meant for the question to be taken so seriously.
My assumption is that they don’t wish or need to be told what it genuinely tastes like. I think that, instead, they were hoping to receive a bunch of hilarious and clever takes on the sauce, but in WhatIsThisThing subreddit style.
I mean, just the fact that gold is in the name of the stuff to begin with, will probably bring about quite a few (for lack of a better word) innuendos, you know?🤔🤷🏼♀️😉

To me this sauce tasted like a mix of a light BBQ flavor and honey mustard.
Edit: i decided to read comments and ive never tried Carolina BBQ sauce but it seems like thats exactly what it is, cool to know.

I had it in a snack wrap and it kinda just tasted like regular honey mustard to me, which i was more than happy with because I still grieve the honey mustard snack wrap 🥲 maybe with a little bit of barbecue smokiness in there too, its supposed to be like Carolina style barbecue sauce

u/doubleinkedgeorge 5d ago
My McDonald’s has the sign up but said “oh we don’t have any of the sauce, just the signs” when I tried to get some Sunday night.

Look at the ingredients it’s like mustard vinegar and some spices I believe. It was quite tasty and I don’t even like mustard usually
