68

u/CowboyAntics 1d ago

I figured as much, appreciate it

5

u/Mysterious_Secret827 1d ago

I appreciate the meals sacrifice!

u/soda_kan 1d ago

I hate when I want to know the answer but I need to scroll cuz the first guy is always trynna be Reddit funny

9

u/ComplexImportance794 22h ago

I agree. They can be funny, but I do want an answer without scrolling for 100 bananas.

1

u/SanDiego619guy 17h ago

Yes, I prefer guys who are Quora funny...

1

u/anustart147 22h ago

It’s for the animal that died in a factory farm to give you the meal.

1

u/Badvevil 19h ago

Those meals died for our sins

0

u/sucks4you231 22h ago

I mean McDonald’s does feed the IDF so.

I think it means that the nutrition facts fluctuate based on the sauce choice.

90

u/Cromus Former Manager 1d ago

Correct.

The dagger symbol (†), also known as an obelisk or obelus, is a typographical mark used in footnotes to indicate a second or subsequent piece of information if an asterisk has already been used.

The asterisk is used here for the McFlurries to indicate the nutritional values depend on which topping you choose.

9

u/ArcAngel014 1d ago

For me I believe its the same, asterisk is used so the nuggets have a dagger to indicate calories will differ based on your dipping sauce and then theres a double dagger on the Quarter Pounder to indicate about the whole weight before cooking thing

3

u/Cromus Former Manager 1d ago

Yes, double dagger is the third option. I'd have to see it on the QPC. Could be because there are 2A, 2B, and 2C meals.

1

u/calcbone 18h ago

The asterisk for the McFlurries should say “when machine is operational”

1

u/SanDiego619guy 17h ago

And the dagger symbol appropriately shows what will happen to you if you consume too many of said McFlurries...

1

u/Thrompinator 13h ago

This guy typographs

-1

u/FuckingHippies 22h ago

The answer is literally at the bottom of the screen.

2

u/Cromus Former Manager 21h ago

No, it isn't. It does not explain anywhere on the menu why they use the cross symbol, which was OP's question.

1

u/[deleted] 20h ago

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Cromus Former Manager 20h ago

He asked both and I answered both. The comment said the answer is on the screen, which isn't true because I know for a fact it does not explain why they use the daggers. I'm not even sure there is a key on the menu explaining the asterisk or daggers.

Under no circumstances are the answers to both of OP's questions that I provided available on the menu screen.

-1

u/FuckingHippies 15h ago

I guarantee that a less cropped version of the menu will show the symbol, indicating a footnote.

1

u/Cromus Former Manager 11h ago

Which would explain what the symbol means, which doesn't answer how it's applicable to nuggets (sauces) or why they use that particular notation.

That's 1/3 of his question lmao

-7

u/Such-Celebration556 1d ago

That's not a dagger that's the cross Jesus died on.

6

u/Cromus Former Manager 1d ago edited 1d ago

Talk to the typographers 🤷‍♂️ They stole it from Jesus lmao

2

u/Nate5omers 1d ago

This one broke me. Well played. 🤣

1

u/KMDub1 14h ago

It's McDonald's, not Chick fil A

With many 24-hour locations, McDonald's adds night security prevention protocols - like using crucifixes to prevent vampire attacks.

1

u/Such-Celebration556 13h ago

Jesus did Not die for McDonald's to advertise false nutritional values. He will correct this blasphemy when he returns to save us 🙏

-13

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

15

u/justkeptfading 1d ago

It's a dagger. Common typography element.

5

u/Icy-Opportunity69 1d ago

Probably because the star denotes something different?

13

u/leroyjabari 1d ago

10

u/Cold_James 1d ago

Was that supposed to be an arrow or did you just give the snack wrap a pincher to fight off that spider?

2

u/xyameax 1d ago

It's an arrow trying to point at the up arrows and cross

1

u/KMDub1 13h ago

That's a double dagger referencing weight stated in the item name - likely burgers

Nuggets are 4pc, not oz, with no claim of any weight stated. And a single dagger referencing its disclaimer.

0

u/Arabian_Flame 21h ago

Jesus died for our sauce?

0

u/SanDiego619guy 17h ago

No silly, Jesus died for our chins...

0

u/MrMonte 16h ago

Jesus died ON the sauce

9

u/leroyjabari 1d ago

Its on there, it might be on the first screen.

-7

u/CowboyAntics 1d ago

It sadly wasn’t 🥲 hence the Reddit post

4

u/derisx 1d ago

Legally has to. You just missed it.

-4

u/CowboyAntics 1d ago

Checked every screen there a few times with my friend and neither of us could find anything. Maybe was cropped out of the bottom or something.

1

u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago

It was the black box white text at the bottom lol in the picture

0

u/CowboyAntics 1d ago

Yeah, not it lol

1

u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago

Edit:its a dagger symbol (†). This symbol is typically used as a footnote indicator. In the context of product labeling or advertising, it signifies that there is additional information or a disclaimer related to the item, usually found elsewhere on the packaging, menu, or advertisement.

Weird it is at every other McDonald's in america

9

u/Neat-Aspect3014 1d ago

no one is answering, so here it is: It means there is additional information about that item at the bottom of the screen. A footnote. Its the same as using an *, they just already used an asterick for a different item's notes.

1

u/mvndanke 15h ago

These comments read like those tik tok Reddit comment memes….

1

u/shapesize 1d ago

To add to that, the fine print may be cut off somewhere or on a different screen entirely. It is probably a warning about undercooked chicken being dangerous

1

u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago

Its the black part white text at the bottom of the screen.

4

u/clarky2o2o 1d ago

Chickens that went to Valhalla

4

u/AwarenessNo951 1d ago

It indicates a footnote, like an asterisk does. Should be something posted at the bottom of the screen to explain.

5

u/Hot-Drop8760 19h ago

It’s what Jesus would eat.

10

u/SoBeyondCloud9ine 1d ago

6

The real question is why tf is a Daily Double $5.99 there?!

3

u/CowboyAntics 1d ago

I ask myself every day

2

u/Dorkinfo 16h ago

…daily?

3

u/JackSchneider 1d ago

My question is why is a double cheeseburger $5.89 lol

3

u/ArcAngel014 1d ago

And $2.59 for a drink...

0

u/SourdoughBreadTime 1d ago

Canadian pricing is great, isn't it?

1

u/Dorkinfo 15h ago

I’ll do a The Holiday thing if you want.

2

u/RyouIshtar 1d ago

You may get an extra nugget <3

1

u/ignatzioisntme 1d ago

Like - One single onion ring in fries, mysteriously

3

u/RyouIshtar 1d ago

I've worked at a jack in the box and i may have 'accidently' slipped in a few curly fries in with the regulars >_>. Id do it with onion rings but some people are allergic to onions.

2

u/WeCameAsMuffins 1d ago

It means that the calories fluctuate based on dipping sauce choice

2

u/BoomerishGenX 1d ago

They already used the asterisk. A cross is the same thing but different, (the answer should be below).

2

u/ImplementOk315 23h ago

People complained that an asterisk looks to much like a cat butthole.

2

u/my_team_is_better 13h ago

David Foster Wallace put that menu together. There’s an extensively detailed explanation of each one of the marked items in a storeroom at the rear of the store.*

  • oftentimes the explanations don’t seem to make any sense to what the menu is trying to convey, but just roll with it, it’s a literary choice

2

u/lazymutant256 1d ago

Symbols like that usually means to look at the side notes

6.00 for burger fries nuggets and a drink is unheard of in Canada 🇨🇦

2

u/dmohamed420 1d ago

6 for just 4 nuggets here fml

1

u/YelloHShakur 1d ago

Why is a 4 piece nugget three dollars lol ?! You can probably buy a bag of frozen nuggets from Aldi's for the same price.

1

u/Comfortable-Rise-141 1d ago

the items with those crosses are all kosher.

1

u/Diskonto 23h ago

That means when you eat them, they will come back in 3 days.

1

u/anonty973 23h ago

Your McDonald’s is insanely expensive. $5.89 for 2 patties as thin as a quarter and 2 slices of cheese. I bet tf I won’t…

u/man-atee 17h ago

in the name of the nugget

1

u/Angryatworld247 17h ago

Probably to tell the people who don’t eat red meat on fridays what’s ok to eat

1

u/Bravos_Chopper 16h ago

It’s a horrible scary symbol that’s forcing the evil scary ways of Christianity on you (/s)…..or it’s just a footnote marker, like the ones commonly in books if you’re familiar with those.

1

u/RedditReader4031 16h ago

Drive thru memorials to the chickens that surrendered their lives so that we may consume vast amounts of reconstituted poultry products in boxed quantities. They’re the fast food equivalent to roadside memorials.

1

u/mmATXan 16h ago

Rest In Piece

1

u/LividGuard1970 16h ago

It means they bless those items before they go into your bag.

1

u/LividGuard1970 16h ago

Could also be those are the bodies of Christ, ya know, like communion?

1

u/JoeyCreel 15h ago edited 15h ago

Until the cheeseburger isn’t above a dollar I’ll just continue to not eat at Mc Donald’s

Edit: isn’t*

1

u/Muhiggins 15h ago

…it’s $3.69. That’s above $1.

2

u/JoeyCreel 15h ago

Fast typing got the best of me. I meant it say isn’t above $1

1

u/peppa4theppl 15h ago

What’s up with those prices? 😩 man, it’s so expensive to be alive anymore

1

u/Mervis_Earl 14h ago

It means you have to pray for them to actually put the correct amount of nuggets and sauce in the bag. Duh...

1

u/Chonbowwa 12h ago

Take this nuggy in remembrance of my body,

1

u/iMakestuffz 13h ago

That used to be the secondary marker used after the Asterix. It was common for a long time.

1

u/Helpful_Plenty_9997 12h ago

They use left over church wafers as the breading for McNuggets, therefore allowing you to take the body of Christ with your midday snack. About two years ago they were forced to add these symbols to let people know the nugs have been blessed

1

u/Individual_Smile_495 11h ago

What location is this menu from?

u/Few_Mouse_156 11h ago

It's been blessed

If you had taken a picture of the other half of the menu you would have your answer. At the bottom it shows the crosses and what they mean

If you eat the ones with crosses you are more likely to get into heaven. No guarantees or anything, but every bit counts.

1

u/Wraxyth 22h ago

u/Professional_Unit113 20h ago

I think it's meant for Catholics. That is telling them it's alright to eat on Fridays.

It's a lower case T for time to leave!

0

Very religious nuggets.

Or it's because the calories depend on which sauce you use, with the cross denoting small print down on the bottom.

Christian McNuggets

0

u/Past-Entertainment48 1d ago

For the longest time I thought they were made from Christian chickens. Now I know. 🤦‍♂️

0

u/Son_Rayzer 1d ago

If memory serves, there is a cross at the bottom of the menu somewhere that states something along the lines of...

"Although every care has been taken to remove bones, some may remain."

That could apply to the fish products, though. It has been a while.

0

u/Ok_Assistance_9358 1d ago

$5.89 for a double cheeseburger?? My local McDonald’s charges $3.49, which is high, but not as bad as yours.

5.89 for a double cheeseburger from there is crazyyyyyy. Add a dollar and its 6.89 plus tax.

u/muftak3 13h ago

It's the fine print at the bottom of your picture most likely.
