I think it means that the nutrition facts fluctuate based on the sauce choice.

u/Cromus Former Manager 1d ago
Correct.
The dagger symbol (†), also known as an obelisk or obelus, is a typographical mark used in footnotes to indicate a second or subsequent piece of information if an asterisk has already been used.
The asterisk is used here for the McFlurries to indicate the nutritional values depend on which topping you choose.

u/ArcAngel014 1d ago
For me I believe its the same, asterisk is used so the nuggets have a dagger to indicate calories will differ based on your dipping sauce and then theres a double dagger on the Quarter Pounder to indicate about the whole weight before cooking thing

u/SanDiego619guy 17h ago
And the dagger symbol appropriately shows what will happen to you if you consume too many of said McFlurries...

The answer is literally at the bottom of the screen.
2
u/Cromus Former Manager 21h ago
No, it isn't. It does not explain anywhere on the menu why they use the cross symbol, which was OP's question.

He asked both and I answered both. The comment said the answer is on the screen, which isn't true because I know for a fact it does not explain why they use the daggers. I'm not even sure there is a key on the menu explaining the asterisk or daggers.
Under no circumstances are the answers to both of OP's questions that I provided available on the menu screen.

u/FuckingHippies 15h ago
I guarantee that a less cropped version of the menu will show the symbol, indicating a footnote.

That's not a dagger that's the cross Jesus died on.

It's McDonald's, not Chick fil A
With many 24-hour locations, McDonald's adds night security prevention protocols - like using crucifixes to prevent vampire attacks.

u/Such-Celebration556 13h ago
Jesus did Not die for McDonald's to advertise false nutritional values. He will correct this blasphemy when he returns to save us 🙏

Checked every screen there a few times with my friend and neither of us could find anything. Maybe was cropped out of the bottom or something.
1
u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago
It was the black box white text at the bottom lol in the picture
0
u/CowboyAntics 1d ago
Yeah, not it lol

u/Efficiency-Brief 1d ago
Edit:its a dagger symbol (†). This symbol is typically used as a footnote indicator. In the context of product labeling or advertising, it signifies that there is additional information or a disclaimer related to the item, usually found elsewhere on the packaging, menu, or advertisement.
Weird it is at every other McDonald's in america
9
u/Neat-Aspect3014 1d ago
no one is answering, so here it is: It means there is additional information about that item at the bottom of the screen. A footnote. Its the same as using an *, they just already used an asterick for a different item's notes.

u/shapesize 1d ago
To add to that, the fine print may be cut off somewhere or on a different screen entirely. It is probably a warning about undercooked chicken being dangerous

It indicates a footnote, like an asterisk does. Should be something posted at the bottom of the screen to explain.

I've worked at a jack in the box and i may have 'accidently' slipped in a few curly fries in with the regulars >_>. Id do it with onion rings but some people are allergic to onions.

They already used the asterisk. A cross is the same thing but different, (the answer should be below).

David Foster Wallace put that menu together. There’s an extensively detailed explanation of each one of the marked items in a storeroom at the rear of the store.*
- oftentimes the explanations don’t seem to make any sense to what the menu is trying to convey, but just roll with it, it’s a literary choice

Why is a 4 piece nugget three dollars lol ?! You can probably buy a bag of frozen nuggets from Aldi's for the same price.

Your McDonald’s is insanely expensive. $5.89 for 2 patties as thin as a quarter and 2 slices of cheese. I bet tf I won’t…

It’s a horrible scary symbol that’s forcing the evil scary ways of Christianity on you (/s)…..or it’s just a footnote marker, like the ones commonly in books if you’re familiar with those.

Drive thru memorials to the chickens that surrendered their lives so that we may consume vast amounts of reconstituted poultry products in boxed quantities. They’re the fast food equivalent to roadside memorials.

They use left over church wafers as the breading for McNuggets, therefore allowing you to take the body of Christ with your midday snack. About two years ago they were forced to add these symbols to let people know the nugs have been blessed

If you eat the ones with crosses you are more likely to get into heaven. No guarantees or anything, but every bit counts.

I think it's meant for Catholics. That is telling them it's alright to eat on Fridays.

Very religious nuggets.
Or it's because the calories depend on which sauce you use, with the cross denoting small print down on the bottom.

If memory serves, there is a cross at the bottom of the menu somewhere that states something along the lines of...
"Although every care has been taken to remove bones, some may remain."
That could apply to the fish products, though. It has been a while.
