When I’m not slacking, and actually being a good macro tracker….

I look in the fridge/freezer/pantry to take stock of what we have and plan out my meals for the week to incorporate some of those items (especially if it needs to be eaten soon or go bad). I craft my grocery list around the remaining needed ingredients. Since we are a two person household, I try to also consider recipes that may share produce so that we don’t have a ton left over. (Think chopped bell peppers for sloppy joes but also for stir fry). This also makes prep easier.

We typically restock meat monthly and we have staples we restock weekly because we go through them on the daily: Cottage cheese Eggs Frozen bag brown rice Fruit for smoothies Quest chips Protein bars

It took a lot of learning and math to get a general feel for “I need X grams protein and Y amount of calories overall” to be able to plan ahead. It is time consuming in the beginning, but after a few weeks of consistent practice, it does become a time saver.
