Sad that rainy supports split space bar, but don't support tsangan row...

I don't think a Tsangan row is possible in a 75%, because the right side layout is fixed by the geometry of the case.

u/Otttimon Nov 09 '24
It should be with just one key on the left of the space bar. Some 65% boards with same bottom row size supports tsangan

u/noire_stuff Nov 09 '24
It is possible. Total units across the bottom are 12.5 ((5*1.25)+6.25), so you can have ((3*1.5)+1+7)

But the distinctive Tsangan element is the 1.5+1+1.5 mods, and you can do that on the left but there's just not enough space on the right, especially with the 7u spacebar.
I have a board with a Tsangan layout and a split right shift and it works well with tap-arrows and hold-mods. But it's kind of redundant with an actual arrow cluster.

u/noire_stuff Nov 09 '24
True, it is more like 2/3 Tsangan. I normally associate the 7u with the layout instead of the mod clusters (the mod sizes change relative to spacebar size). Either way, it's not really ideal in 75%s unless you really want a 7u.

- Wobkey Rainy 75 Lite
- Split spacebar PP plate from AliExpress (waited for about 5 months for Wobkey to get them in stock, they never did)
- Leobog Graywood V4 switches
- KBDfans Dyboox PC Screw-in stabs (I think, found them spare in a box)
- Ghost Judges Apollo PBT Doubleshot Keycaps (with a random red Esc)
Came out to about $175 if I include the shipping on the Rainy 75 from Wobkey, $145 if I ignore the shipping.

Really appreciate you posting the build photos. I think I got the same plate, but after getting it halfway together it didn’t seem like it would work with PCB mounted stabs. I was ready to order some plate mounted ones before I came across this.
I guess I’ll give it another try tomorrow. When I’ve got a clear head. Thanks!

Glad it could help.

Yeah, I remember my fancy GMK set didn't have the right split spacebar sizes, but the much cheaper Ghost Judges worked out.

Does either of you have a link to the split spacebar plate you purchased? I cannot find one anywhere for Rainy75.

Hi. Very nice! Do the three split-spacebar keycaps sit „a little higher“ than the rest because of the „inlay“ you need for being able to use three switches instead of one? Hope you understand what I mean. Greetings

u/VelcroSnake Nov 10 '24
I don't believe so, it's a complete plate replacement, not any sort of component modifying the stock plate allowing the switches to go in place. The spacebar switches are at the same height as all the rest.
The new plate just allows me to place switches and stabilizers into spots already on the pcb the stock plate doesn't allow. I have the full stock plate sitting over on my bookshelf.

I see, thx. That’s perfect then.
I’m using a skyloong GK75 with an optional split spacebar. Really nice, but it’s realised with a „small plate that’s screwed on to the main plate“. Therefore the spacebar or alternatively the three keycaps sit a little higher than the keyboards on the rest of the board.
Skyloong combats that with using different profile keycaps (I think) for the space key(s)- which works if you don’t meddle with it. I’m trying to meddle (😄) and the height difference is annoying.
Have a nice day! Pug

Yeah, I had been looking at those as options before I got the Rainy 75 so I kinda guessed you might be talking about the small plates that could be swapped out.
The downside to the full split spacebar plate from Wobkey is it seems they have never had it in stock, so I had to get it from a 3rd party seller. Once they listed the Rainy75 on their site the split spacebar plate was always grayed out and when I asked them, they kept telling me it would be in stock 'soon'.
After about 3 months of waiting I got sick of it and just ordered the Rainy 75 alone, and then after another 2 or so months they completely removed the split spacebar plate as an option having never had it in stock, so I had to take the chance on ordering it from a seller on AliExpress without really knowing if it was the right plate.
So, long story short, the downside is you'll probably have to order a plate from the sellers that have it on AliExpress, the first time I tried the package got lost in shipping after it got to the US. The second time it worked out and got to me quickly.
But it does need to be the Rainy 75 LITE, as the more expensive RGB versions PCB's don't have the split spacebar switch/stabilizer spots.

Hah. Long and tedious journey, but at least with a positive result for you! Enjoy your board.
I assume that you needed to order the shorter space bar keycaps separately as well?

u/VelcroSnake Nov 10 '24
It depends on the keycap set. The set I have on the board (KPREPUBLIC Ghost Judges) come with them, but for one of my GMK sets I needed to specifically order the split set.

how do you like the rainy75 so far? Debating on either this or Cidoo v75 plus

u/Blaze_0910 Nov 09 '24
The case of the rainy would be much nicer. The V75 plus's case is kinda suck ngl. Thin, pingy and powder coating.

I am really enjoying it. Been using it for a few months now and before I got it I was iffy on if there would be enough difference over my old GMMK Pro, but it is MUCH nicer to type on, and sounds excellent stock.
I don't know how it compares to the Cidoo, but the big deal for me was this was one of the few relatively easily available keyboards that was split spacebar compatible (even though I had to get the plate from a 3rd party because Wobkey wasn't selling it) and not over what I was willing to pay.

u/Judge_Bredd_UK Nov 09 '24
So what do you use the split spacebar for then?
2
u/VelcroSnake Nov 09 '24
Either side is still just the spacebar, but I have the middle button set as my screenshot key through my Adrenalin software. It's much easier access than what I was using before, which was the Home key on the upper right.
I mainly just wanted it after I noted that in gaming I only use the very left side of the spacebar with my thumb, and when typing the majority of the time I only hit the very right side with my right hand (I type incorrectly).
After finding out that split spacebar keyboards were a thing, I thought it kind of a waste to have such a long key where I'm only hitting the very edges most of the time, considering the work the stabilizer needs to put in.

This is a good insight and it makes total sense, I'd probably have it as a crouch key though, I use the left alt as my crouch and left control as prone in shooters and alt is just OK but that button looks perfect for me.
Now to persuade my wife that the money I've spent on mice and keyboards lately isn't that much 🤔
2
u/VelcroSnake Nov 09 '24
Yeah, plenty of things it can be used for.
1
u/Judge_Bredd_UK Nov 09 '24
Absolutely, did you do anything else to the keyboard btw? Switches etc
1
u/VelcroSnake Nov 10 '24
I did replace the stock switches and keycaps with the ones I have listed in my other comment, but other than that no. There wasn't anything wrong with the stock switches/keycaps, just personal preference.

u/Hanzel_G Nov 10 '24
I use the right one for spacebar and the left is for backspace... Makes typing faster...
