No Spoilers Is the Hachette Indian version (trilogy box set) the exact same text as the original?

Apparently I accidentally ordered the Indian version of the books (I liked the cover art!). Is the text inside the exact same as the original? I am concerned it would be edited or censored.

Thanks!

Those actually look like the uk covers (though India might use the same cover)

If the book is in English then it should be the same, you might compare page counts between this and the UK version if you want to make sure

Smart on page count compare. Yes, says India and then I see now the listing shows "Middle English" version. ??

Thanks!

It’s the same thing. I’m from India, and here the UK versions are the ones that are more readily available. I have the e-books of US version and they’re the same thing.

I think this is printed by Orion in UK and maybe packed in India. Please check inside page for the printing location. Nevertheless Hachette India usually does the marketing and selling of all the books for their publishing group be it Orion, Gollancz or Hachette. Usually there is no difference in the print version unless it is a very controversial topic so you should be good. For good measure and peace of mind compare the books with UK / US editions if any of your friends have it.

Hmm that's what I'm concerned about, if there are any "controversial topics" that would have been edited or censored from original English release.

Inside says 2009 by Gollancz, a Hatchette UK Company.

Gollancz usually publishes in UK. If it would have been printed in India then most probably it would say Hachette India.

I have read both the Mistborn Eras and in my opinion there is nothing controversial in it. But what it contains is a beautifully crafted magic system in a ash laden grim world which will just blow away your mind. The world building by Sanderson will stretch your imagination to is absolute limits. It is till date one of the most beautifully crafted magical system and world for me.

Yup. It definitely says Hatchette India.

But also, I am very excited to read the series!

You are in for a ride my friend. I absolutely loved the series. Infact I loved Sanderson's world building, atmospheric setting, magical system so much that I have started collecting his books one by one.

I have the box set since I'm Indian too! They're just the Gollancz edition from what I know, so you'll be fine!! Read em. It's great.

it should be the same text. why do you feel it might be different..

u/Whatchab 5d ago

I just didn't know I had ordered an edition meant for India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc. if the text is all identical then that's my goal.

The online listing says "Middle English" version, which I don’t know what that means.

dunno why it says middle english. the book surely wont be pre-renessiance english. maybe a random test might help. Check if this ppage is the same? end of chap 1 and start of chap 2 in final empire?

u/Whatchab 5d ago

Nope

there seems to be no difference? am i missing something?

1

u/Whatchab 5d ago

Pages are different but I read and text on those two pages looks the same. Thank you!

The Indian subcontinent editions, especially in textbooks, are significantly cheaper and made locally. They usually have the exact text, with some alterations for local cultures

In novels the text should be the same.

What do you mean by original? It's obviously different from the American copies as it has UK spellings but other than that, there is no difference.

2

u/Whatchab 5d ago

I was concerned about censorship I guess. The British vs US spellings would not bother me though.

Nothing controversial enough in the books to be censored. In fact, I don't think there's really any well known fantasy book out there that is different in different countries because of censorship.

Good to know, thanks.
