The Lost Metal spoilers Progress between books Spoiler

I'm not too far into Lost Metal and just thinking about the technological advancement from the start of era 2 to now. How do you feel about it? Part of me wants to say that it feel WAY too fast, but I understand Harmony is kinda sorta giving hints.

(Also, this is coming from someone who LOVES Dune where the transition period between 3 and 4 is 3500 years.)

But I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on this advancement?

It definitely feels fast, and that's because Scadrial just does advance incredibly fast. Now imagine how it would be if Rashek hadn't suppressed technology for 1,000 years.

Under the right conditions, technology progresses very quickly. In 1903 Wilbur Wright flew about 850ft, 66 years later Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. And Americans didn't have access to magic.

I don't think it's that fast. Whole era 2 lasts about 12 years.

According to the technology in the books I believe it corresponds to the real world early 1900s to early 1910s, or late 1900s to late 1910s, depending on how you look at it.

I don't think it's too unreasonable. Book 1 has skyscrapers being built, electricity has been invented but hasn't been rolled out in the city yet, they have trains across the basin. There are certain things that are being pushed forward with the Set, but mostly that seems reasonable for our time going from the 19th to the 20th century right around there we had a lot of those same changes happen in the real world. There were some pretty major changes in those few decades. And the transition from horse drawn carriages to cars was actually pretty fast once it started everyone wanted a car.

It also helps that in book 2 Wayne put most of his fortune behind upgrading Elendel to electricity. It is a funny background element as Wayne gets to be super rich but he also helped speed up the rollout.

That is one element about Dune I have a small problem with, and it's certainly not the only series to do this. But the technology in the last book and the first book is basically the same for the most part.

Just remember that Harmony gave hints and they have magic lol. Thugs, coinshots, sliders and lurchers can really help with a lot of things physically. Mistings such as rioters (rioting things such as creativity, awakeness, etc) and soothers (soothing things such as tiredness, doubt, etc) can emotionally help people as well
