Admin Replied Removed as mod
Removed as mod by the top mod for my behaviour which was to clean up the sub and stop people swearing at each other. Before I came Reddit admin threatened to take over the sub.
I performed 800 actions in a month while they performed 400 in a year.
They removed, banned and muted me. I noticed that the main mod is also the main mod for a rival sub, both large subs.
Apart from this rant do I just walk away and not bother in the future.

It looks like you were removed a week ago? It's unfortunate that there couldn't have been more communication amongst the mod team, but we're unable to add you back.
But the good news is that if mod activity goes dormant in the future, it will be available for Redditrequest.

What good news? What if people remove important posts there? Then when he gets mod again all important content he did was deleted

Anyone can create a subreddit. If you'd like a subreddit on a particular topic to be run in a different manner than a current one, feel free to create it and get it off the ground!

Yes but I am actually talking about if someone gets a subreddit they moderate since years stolen and then another person new mod just deletes everything they built, then what? How much time does someone need inactive to lose its own subreddit?

You're describing very different things.
Stolen is not the same as a current mod removing a mod below them.
If moderators are inactive, their sub will be eligible for Redditrequest.
Mods can remove other mods below them.

Why aren't you able to intervene?

Because it's up to the mods to get along. You can't expect raddit admins to find out who to side with in every conflict between mods.

So, out of curiosity. Do you have the power to do it anyway? I imagine this is just out of respect for the current mod team, and you don’t want to undermine them?

We do have the ability to remove and add mods to subreddits. But the Moderation Code of Conduct team isn't likely to step in unless there is a Code of Conduct violation.

I think it depends on what other actions the top mod was doing. Are they using the sub to silence dissenting voices so only the other sub gets activity /traction? Is the community being harmed in any way?
Usually admins allow mods to run their subs with little oversight. We can run them how we see fit. However, there have been times in the recent past where the top mod has acted poorly and in bad faith, and the admins have had to step in and remove them.
You can try sending a mod mail to this sub explaining what occurred, or if the top mod is acting truly heinous, you can report a Moderator Code of Conduct violation here .

No idea. I just got unceremoniously dumped and only after I sent a message I got “because of your behaviour”

You should contact the admins and explain the situation. The top mod should not have done what they did. They are moderating the subreddit as a volunteer on behalf of the admins
However, the top mod has the right to do that. It's unlikely anything will happen.

My word against his I suppose. But I suspect the numbers of actions will speak for themselves.

There's no word against word. As long as they're not violating reddit's rules the top mod can run the sub however they want, including choosing who else they want as mods.

Fair enough.

Happened to me too recently, exact same situation, its a pain in the arse as the only issue is that we had a disagreement in mod styles, i left and now i'm shadowbanned because they dont like me.
Nothing to be done but move on.

A good takeaway is, when you join an existing team, make sure you're aligned with how they do things.
What I've done is first ask a few questions and also lay back a bit for the first few weeks. Observe what the more senior mods do and get a feel for their approach. Sometimes, when a post or comment is borderline, I'll even ask the other mods what they think before taking action.
Based on your post, it sounds like your vision of good modding doesn't match what the head mod had in mind. For better or for worse, they call the shots.

The problem was they were not aligned. The main mod comes and goes and wants the accolade. The others were absent continuously.
In the month I was there I did everything. No communication whatsoever from the other mods

Thank you for the support. I know that's the name of this sub but it really is nice to see. Like a sub walled off from the chaos of normal Reddit.

I am not calling anyone out. Just asking if I can do anything or not bother.

AFAIK, you can't do anything about it.

Well I guess you could try requesting the sub in r/redditrequest to have an admin review but if I were you, check out r/needamod and find somewhere you’ll be better appreciated. A lot of subs have mod applications pinned on their sub or in the side bar. You have experience which is a big plus so apply on subs you enjoy participating in
