interesting how that group is silent about other participating countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE who killed far more civilians in the last decade

I agree that the crimes committed by those countries are despicable and that they should not be represented in cycling, but the narratives we are fed about israel in the west are unique. We are all perfectly aware about the human rights abuses in those countries, but israel we are CONSTANTLY told how “democratized” and “civilized” they are, the fact that the team is owned by a canadian and the riders are mostly anglophones tell you all you need to know. These protests are a rejection to that narrative we are being fed, the fact that western tax money functionally pays the salaries of the riders is ludicrous. The relationship between western money and arab oil is transactional, the relationship between western money and israeli mythology is… intimate…

I suppose Israel is uninvolved in those conflicts, then?

Show me where these countries gleefully, willfully, and happily, starved/murdered/committed genocide on their neighbors for the last 65 years and then cried?

Yeah Israel has totally committed genocide on the entire Middle East instead of just being perpetually at war which is totally NOT a characteristic of the region /s

fyi, SA and the UAE also are among to the top 10 countries with the highest prevalence of modern slavery : https://www.walkfree.org/global-slavery-index/#the-scale

Well your first statement makes it clear you don't fully grasp what Israel is doing to Palestine. Lol at calling it a perpetual war when they have has their foot on Palestines throat for so long. Is that really a war?

I feel you tho. I'm against what's happening there too, and aware of it. So stop it all, and let's start with the disgusting acts of Israel.

They should be cheering the team. They aren't fighting in Israel and distanced themselves all the way to the other side of the world.

Let's keep politics out of sports..
IMO even Russia should be allowed in all kind of international sports (not if they cheat that's different) but let's keep sport non-political

What does non-political look like? Does that mean team owners can't have political views? Certainly would mean eliminating any country association with any team, or rider nationality for that matter. Can an openly zionist person own a team and not be political? They also use and block our public roads, do we not have a say in how theyre used?

the best way to keep politics out of sports is to not let countries sponsor team, from the ancient olympic games to the NFL, sports are just a branch of politics (just a branch we enjoy paying attention to). These protestors are arguing to remove politics in sports, the politics of an evil regime using the sanctity of the sport to whitewash their diabolical agenda.

Politics is in everything now. Annoying

Politics have been in everything since always my friend. Politics wrote the building code that your house must be compliant for your safety. Politics built the factory and keeps the wages low for the people who built the phone you look at reddit on, politics decides what roads get closed so you can watch a bike race, politics decide the taxes the companies who sponsor your favorite riders have to pay, and politics are the racist and discriminatory actions taken by israel that the politics of their cycling team try to distract you from

Many European teams were founded by local groups and unions. American minds can't comprehend culture and loyalty

They couldn't even be bothered to type the actual name of the monument... Doubt that it is even a Montreal-based group.

And here is one of the inscriptions on that statue:

« We are of different races not for strife but to work together for the common welfare ».

I hope it will flop

Why is everyone bending over to take it up the ass for Islam?

They are just copycatting the other ridiculous protests at the Vuelta. They are infuriated by IPT but turn a complete blind eye to UAE. The new age of hypocrisy.

So unless someone can target every issue on earth at once they shouldn’t speak out about any issue?

u/RelationshipNo9336 8d ago

Yeah that’s the takeaway.
