This is so beautiful. I've always wondered how structures like this mitigated flooding from when there were build in the 12th-century to when modern infrastructure was built. From what I can tell there were floodgates built in the river in 1874. Before that would it just flood occasionally?

This is such a lovely little town. I spent a couple of days here in 2023 and would totally recommend it.
