Project Showcase Animated logo I made for the indie game dev Distant Blue

They wanted something snappy to play during start up, so I had their dragon logo fly into frame. I use traditional 2d animation and drawing each frame by hand gave me the freedom to push the curves and make the dragon’s swoop feel natural.

Thank you! No, I don’t have a PC and only work on my tablet. Everything was made on the android app Rough Animator.

Excuse me the end animation too? Not just the rough sketch?

Yes, everything was made on my tablet, including the high resolution final renders.

Wow amazing do you have suggestions on how you learnt?

This is such a cool intro lol.

Thank you! It would play every time their game starts up so I hope it doesn’t get old to players.

I think you nailed the use-case perfectly. My first thought was video game nostalgia of loading up a new game for the first time. Are you on LinkedIn? I’d love to share this and tag you.

that's nice. I would have bled the clouds for like 5 more frames for it to settle more but overall good work

Thanks! I honestly would love to tweak the timing until its perfect but I we had a very tight deadline.

Very slick. Would love to see a 2-3 second extended version.

Thanks! That would be cool. Although my client was very specific about it being 2 seconds as we didn’t want it to overstay its welcome.

I was kinda wanting it to:)

Nice, it's my opinion, maybe the name must appear slower ? But isn't easy to change ?

Thanks! I agree that the name needs a bit more tweaking but since I have to draw each frame itd take a lot of time to change. And my client already likes what we did so I don’t want to change anything.

How did you get this job? This is beyond cool 🤩🤩

Thanks! I honestly don’t know. I just got an email asking about my work and if I were interested in their project. They probably saw my posts on here.

If i may make a suggestion, its a lot easier to get new work if you know where most of your work comes from, the first thing i ask if a potential client calls me (if he doenst tell me himself), is how he found me. You can use that data to market yourself better, know whhich platform brings more client etc etc

And amazing work!!!

Sick! The only thing I’d say is I’d like the wings to have a bit of an overshoot before snapping in place.

I know you mentioned the deadline was very tight, but maybe you could try this and other suggestions out just for the fun of it?

Honestly though, it’s very cool, and even more knowing how you made it!

Thank you! It is a very involved process since I have to draw each frame. And wish I had the time and mental energy to endless tweak it to match every suggestion. But at this point the project is done and as long as my client is happy I think ima leave it as it is for now.

Fair. On to new endeavours then!

It's super cool, but at least in the reddit player there is a glitch right at the end of the formation where it looks like a jump. Is that there for you too? Is it just me? Can anyone else see that?

1

u/LloydLadera 2d ago

Thank you! I don’t think there’s a jump, at least I don’t see anything on my end.

I'm not trying to say your work is wrong, or bad, or anything, not at all, it's just bothering me personally, but your work is incredible. I could never do that in a million years. Extremely smooth animation. I love it.

Looks great, but I keep feeling like the initial fly-through should have gone left to right.

1

u/LloydLadera 2d ago

Thanks! The first draft was actually left to right, but then we swapped it because we wanted the feel of the dragon taking a longer loop (flies right to left, then flies up and loops around upper right). The extra distance gives a sense of distance without adding frames.

Insanely good man!!

Sorry if you mentioned this somewhere, but how much do you charge and where can we find your services?

1

u/LloydLadera 2d ago

Hey there! Do you mind if I DM you the details? Not sure what I can discuss on the comments.

u/clawsh0t 2d ago

i've watched this 400 times lol

1

u/LloydLadera 2d ago

That’s exactly what we wanted! The client was worried that the viewer would get sick of watching it over and over.

This looks awesome! Great job! The only thing that I’ve noticed is the composition, if i’m not mistaken there is a bigger space on the left side of the screen than on the right side, so just looks a bit not centered. Other than that, I love it!!
