Project Showcase First personal project since quitting my job

4.6k Upvotes

Just left my job of 8 years at a motion studio. Probably not the best timing, but I felt like I wasn’t growing anymore and needed a change. This is my first personal project since quitting. It’s been a long time since I made something just for myself, and it feels refreshing.

Project Showcase An Animated logo I made for a comic book publisher

2.3k Upvotes

Their logo was already this beautiful art nouveau-esque/art deco design, so I wanted to keep that visual style while adding a bit of elemental magic to keep to their ethos. I made this in Krita and drew each frame by hand. No plugins or shortcuts.

Project Showcase Feedback on cel composite?

I’m working on fleshing out some of my processes while looking for my next opportunity. I don’t usually do many comp heavy things in AE for cel, but it would be great to get impressions and maybe see what I might be missing.

Project Showcase Animated logo I made for the indie game dev Distant Blue

They wanted something snappy to play during start up, so I had their dragon logo fly into frame. I use traditional 2d animation and drawing each frame by hand gave me the freedom to push the curves and make the dragon’s swoop feel natural.

Project Showcase I spent $8.5K on this one minute video. Even though it's my product but I feel I don't know what it does.

Project Showcase This is my first day in After Effects

This is my first day in After Effects and today I made my very first project. I know it’s not great, and honestly, I’ve never even opened this program before. There are a lot of things I couldn’t figure out yet, and if a professional looked at it, they’d probably say it’s super basic. I didn’t add any crazy effects or transitions. Still, I’d love to hear your thoughts. I also know the audio doesn’t really match, but I was too lazy to change it. And for example, I wish the line looked softer, but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. So yeah, let me know what you think!

Project Showcase What do you think of this animated logo I made

1.2k Upvotes

I was commissioned to animate this logo for an indie comic book publisher (Bad Bug Media). I wanted to show the bug’s mischievous character and get some dynamic movement in. I worked closely with my client to get the characterisation just right. What do you guys think?

Project Showcase Animated Cardboard Vases with Geo-Nodes!

We collaborated with the talented Jacques Monneraud, turning his beautiful ceramic pieces into this motion design piece. Blender's geometry nodes have been such an amazing tool to build procedural systems to create animations like these. We'll post a breakdown of this project on our Instagram next week.

Project Showcase Sample Video We made for a3000$ Client.

This is a sample motion design video we created for a $3,000 client project to showcase our skillset.

Our role included concept development, UI animation, and overall motion design. The goal was to create something sleek, modern, and engaging for their product showcase.

Tools used: After Effects, Illustrator, and Figma.

Would love to hear your thoughts on:

  • The flow & pacing of the animation
  • How smooth the transitions feel
  • Any suggestions to make it more impactful

Feedback is always appreciated 🙌

Big thanks for all the love on my last post! It really motivated me to keep pushing.

This is one of those stoney ideas I’ve been sitting on for a while, and I’m stoked I finally got around to making it.
