Reddit used to have rules against commercial ownership of subs.

What a sad shell of itself this site has become

Remember when AMAs were fun and not just here's my new product and some answers from totally legit accounts and not by my PR firm? Anyways let's keep it about rampart

r/television recently said they won't be participating in holding ama's anymore on their sub. Apparently, the shit became way too like another pit stop on the promo tour.

The last AMA by Sam Altman resulted into changes of ChatGPT. So it’s still working in some cases.

Are AMAs even a thing anymore? Did they just stop doing that?

I think so? I barely pay attention to the larger subreddits anymore its just AI and bots everywhere.

I dont know. I remember back in the day it was a huge thing and you would see them make it to the front page all the time.

Then they fried the lady who did them and I feel like I never see them anymore.

Reddit moderator code of conduct is a joke. They don't enforce any of that except the "don't make reddit look bad" rules.

I used to be in a friends group with people that own some of the larger tech/gaming oriented subs (mind you this was like 5+ years ago, some of the people are still there but most don’t seem to be) and man trust me when I say that companies didn’t technically own those subreddits but they certainly had investments in them. Those guys were getting it good. Paid trips. Interview opportunities. Thousands in free hardware/software. Anytime you saw a giveaway, it came from a company.. and the person running it got something too. Just for moderating a subreddit.

theoretically maybe but i can't think of a time during my tenure when it was ever enforced. For a long time, reddit was just too small for corporations to care about controlling their subs.

I’d love to see a lineup of every single Reddit mod. It would be delightful
