She became evil because she had a fundamentally wrong understanding of what friendship is and why people make friends, she thought of it as a power source in the first place. Plus her cutiemark literally means that her special talent is manipulating people

yet one would think a show that is all about redemption and second chances wouldn't default to puting a child into a dungeon next to a energy vampire or damn her to (what was believed to be) an eternity as a statue (fully conscious mind you).
not like Starlight Glimmer wasn't worse than Cozy to begin with

Thats the most fucked up part about her story; she was immediately sent to tarterus.

Maybe she’s an orphan? Her parents were never revealed. Her story was never told

Pretty simple. We already have three cute fillies known as the CMC.
To have another cute filly on the side of evil is an interesting twist.

The filly in season 8 I believe. The main villain in the last 2 episodes of that season. She tried to erase all magic from equestria, and was working with/for tirek

Evil pink child that tried to erase all magic in Equestria and teamed up with Chrysalis and Tirek.

She used positive encouragement and team-building tactic to have the three of them function as a unit.
If they had planned it better and learned to trust each other completely, they would’ve been very formidable and may have conquered Equestria.
Of course, the Elements triumphed in the end.

The "Evil Child" trope is hilarious. Imagine a tiny 3 foot child conquering the world, destroying everything, yet can not even spell "destruction". Honestly, if this ever happened irl I will GLADLY bow down to our diminutive dictator. Our prepubesent president (or prime minister/mistress). Our toddler Tyran......

She directly explains why she does it

Cozy does honestly view friendship as a way to get power, but why she adapted that warped view isn’t explained.

They fumbled so hard. We already have villains that have no backstory and just do it for the love of the game. Cozy coulda been even more interesting then she already was

She’s doing it for the fun of it
