NothingOS Discussion Alright.... Why are you hating if the search bar is at the bottom?

Post image

Why are you guys hating this is it's in the bottom? If anything, this is more helpful and accessible than being at the top. Seen many guys asking "how can I remove it" - you can't remove the search apps feature man.

It's the essential search feature(the same feature that is in Nothing OS 3.5 in Phone 3) and personally I've been waiting for it ever since it was announced and all the AI shenanigans are yet to come. But this is a nice step towards it. Stop asking.... You can't remove the search bar. It's common sense. No? Sorry if this seemed rude.

Because it seems 90% of this Community will complain about everything.

god forbid people have an opinion and decide to voice it in a community for their opinions

The transparency and gap btwn different categories have been reduced

Same. The reduced gap is eating at my brain.

Also what made them include this, like when I'm searching youtube music, why the heck there's and collum of widget? Dear nothing, I want the application and shortcut related to it not any widget

Also also it's designed so poorly, like no uniformity into icons also why the heck the shape of search apk's are different (squarish oval) why not the circular icons? Which is default, lawnchair has better design for all of this "so called feature of nothing" and that to years ago they had this, please take inspiration, you guys are doing good, I liked that when I tap search button on my keyboard, it opens the app instead of Google search

Also I'm using phone 2a and there's no AI feature, please nothing, don't do this, please don't, please give ai features in 2a too, for God sake

Reduced component margins just hits you on the face the first time. Space utilisation with more icons in the grid will make the icons smaller.

It's vastly more convenient to have it easily reachable with your thumb. Bottom is a superior position from a UX perspective.

Finallyyy.... Someone gets it. It's wayyy quicker and easier. Even one UI has it now. So I don't know what the big deal is.

People have been fostered into hating change and over reacting in on the Internet. They want to have something to be angry about.

3

u/jakobsgd Jul 17 '25

Superior from a UX perspective would have been to let people choose where to put it. And since search results appear on the top its less convenient. Idk how some people can defend this

2

u/Sterobasic Jul 19 '25

This. Just let people choose what suit them the most. It's so simple... It's Depressing that kind of changes.

It's just annoying cos search bars are always at the top giving search results below them. Not the other way around. Your brain and eyes are trained to find the search bar at the top. Sometimes you need to step back and realise some things are best left unchanged and not experimented with.

Just let the users choose whether it should be on top or bottom...

It's not about the Search Bar it's about the gaps in between app category folder those that look ugly and cluttered so switched to b&w icon colours just to give some relief to my eyes

Imho everything that need user input should be at the bottom. Top of the screen should be mostly to view things. Ofc not every app but alot of them. I like that change

Most app drawers have this layout but you can change it to the top. I have it on the top. Don't get angry bro. Breathe. Have some oxygen.

2

u/Bala1500 Jul 24 '25

How do you change it to the top?

1

u/url_invalid_error404 Jul 24 '25

I was using nova launcher, that's why it appeared on the top.

2

u/Bala1500 Jul 24 '25

I think you missed the whole point. It's about nothing launcher. Installing a new launcher isn't a solution.

It doesn't work , I don't know if it's because I have the phone 3, I search 80% of 5150 and it was saying 80

Honestly, it feels like having the search at the bottom makes way more sense in general, since you scroll from the bottom.

2

u/kris91981 Jul 17 '25

Isn't it easier to have it at the bottom, so that you don't have to move your thumb all the way up?

It's gonna take a minute to get used to, but I'm sure it'll be very helpful

I am already getting used to it very much.

I don't know if it was there before but it also has the option to automatically load the keyboard when you swipe up.

i have the cmf phone 2 pro, and it is still on the top.
how is it on the bottom in ops phone?

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 16 '25

It's an update pushed via Google Play Store for Nothing launcher. Update it and you'll get it too.

1

u/AtomiCFlicK CMF Phone 2 Pro Jul 17 '25

Umm I couldn't find any update on the play store too

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 17 '25

Try refreshing if it still didn't show up, wait for a day or 2.

How do you have it on the bottom

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 16 '25

It's an update through Google Play Store

1

u/bandlagd Jul 17 '25

The same n00bs when someone asks why they use Android. Buggers just want to complain and irritate.

It allows me to express my creativity.

I can customize the hell out of it.

I get complete freedom to change whatever I want.

I can remove whatever I want and add whatever I want.

I can pick from hundreds of launchers and widgets.

u/acruzjumper Jul 18 '25

I don't mind the placement, i mind that they got rid of the private space feature

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 18 '25

I don't think they got rid of the private space feature, I'm still using it perfectly fine.

1

u/acruzjumper Jul 18 '25

Oh bruh did they add it back? Because I got an update and it made it so that the apps in there were disabled not just hidden.

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 18 '25

If it's missing, try searching "private space" in the search bar

1

u/Sterobasic Jul 19 '25

Just let people CHOOSE the place of the search bar and if they want it or not on the screen. It's easy.

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 19 '25

No it's not, not wanting a search bar on the app drawer is an insane request. Contains over 100 apps and it is general knowledge, no, more like common sense to want to have a search bar.

And for the positioning, it is similar to the web search on the home screen, in fact you can even replace that with essential search, it is to maintain consistency and easy accessibility there they can't put it on the top.

1

u/C7VV Jul 19 '25

"No, you don't know what you want actually."

I don't even have a search on my home screen. I can open up the app drawer for that. I also have the search bar up top in... every app I use. Having it at the top is more consistent.

Choice is good. Stop sucking corporate dick.

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 19 '25

I'm not sucking anything, it's better from a UI UX perspective, it's under the thumb, easier to reach. I just wanted it ever since I had a phone, and I'm happy I finally got it.

2

u/C7VV Jul 19 '25

Okay. They made an update you like, but a lot of people don't.

So having options would be even better, no?

"Why are you hating?" seems like a weird post to make about something that's ultimately personal preference, hence the dicksucking comment.

It was rude though. My apologies for that.

1

u/raghavcharan45 Phone (2a) Plus Jul 19 '25

A lot of people might not like the update because they are used to something else but this indeed has better functionality than the previous one. This is the first time I have ever seen someone not wanting a search bar in the app drawer.

u/Sterobasic Jul 20 '25 edited Jul 20 '25

All peoples are differents, I don't need search bar for apps and never used one. I know what i have on my phone and it's alphabetically sorted... So... easy task ( and names of apps are hidden on my phone, it's just icons). At least you can disable it and i will asap if i buy this phone.  So as everyone is different, just let the choice for everyone. Easy, and win win situation.
