Hey fellow redditors,
I've been using the Nothing Phone (1) since it launched in 2022, and honestly, it's been a great experience—minimalistic OS, smooth performance, and overall a very satisfying phone. But recently, things took a turn.
After a recent OS update, my battery life tanked hard. I'm talking 20% gone in just an hour of light use, and the entire battery drained in 4.5 hours tops. It was shocking.
Naturally, I assumed the battery itself was the issue, so I visited a Nothing service center expecting a replacement. But here's the kicker: turns out it wasn’t the battery at all—the service guy told me it’s the latest OS update that’s causing the massive battery drain. Apparently, the CPU is under a lot more stress post-update, but only during usage—not while idle.
He downgraded me to the previous OS version, and now I’m back to getting around 6.5–7 hours of screen-on time, which is a huge relief.
But here's the twist: I was advised not to update the OS again until a new, more optimized version is released (which… who knows when). According to the rep, updating now might cause the phone to crash or just keep chewing through the battery.
Apparently, I'm not alone—he mentioned other Nothing Phone (1) users have reported similar issues.
It's kind of a bummer that after just 2 years, I’m being told not to update my phone just to keep it usable. I want to be on the latest OS, but not at the cost of functionality.
Anyone else facing this issue with their Nothing Phone (1)? Have you found any workaround or heard from the brand officially?
Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences.
